Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia. Shortly after his birth, his father left his family. Her mother, Mallie Robinson, decided to move the family to Pasadena California in 1920. Growing up in Pasadena, Jackie and her minority friends felt the sting of prejudice as they were excluded from the various recreational activities offered to the youth of the area due to color. of your skin. In 1935, Jackie attended John Muir High School and it was here that his talent for sports was recognized. He loved all sports and being able to play them in high school, he joined almost every team the school had to offer. On the baseball team he played shortstop and catcher. On the football team he played quarterback and guard for the basketball team. Jackie won awards for the long jump in track and field. In 1936 he won the junior men’s singles championship at the annual Pacific Coast Negro Tennis Tournament. In 1936 he was also named a player on Pomona’s annual All-Star team. It is interesting to note that 2 other players on the team were Ted Williams and Bob Lemon who became members of the elite Baseball Hall of Fame.

After high school, Jackie attended Pasadena Junior College and continued to play baseball, basketball, soccer, and track. After graduating from this 2-year university, Jackie decided to enter the University of California, Los Angeles. Jackie was the first athlete in UCLA history to earn varsity letters in four sports; baseball, basketball, soccer and athletics. Robinson dropped out of college before receiving his degree to take a job with a government agency as an assistant athletic director at the National Youth Administration in Atascadero, California.

In 1945, Jackie began his professional baseball career in the Negro League playing for the Kansas City Monarchs. He played 47 games that season at shortstop. He hit a .387 average with 5 home runs and 13 stolen bases. He was also named to the Negro League All-Star team. During this season, Jackie tried out for the Boston Red Sox, but was so humiliated by racial slurs that he abruptly dropped out of tryouts. On October 23, 1945, Jackie Robinson signed with the International League farm club, the Montreal Royals, the first black player since the 1880s. The Royals were part of the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. Jackie played his first game in the season opener on April 18, 1946 against the Jersey City Giants. That year, Robinson leads the International League with a .349 batting average and .985 fielding percentage. He was also named the league’s Most Valuable Player that season.

In the 1947 season, Jackie Robinson was called up to the Major League Baseball Dodgers team. Robinson’s achievement in breaking baseball’s color barrier came at a price. During games, he had to endure racial slurs from members of the opposing team and from fans in the stands. Peewee Reese, who was a teammate of Robinson’s, came to Jackie’s aid during one of these confrontations. Reese put her arm around Jackie’s shoulders and said, “You can hate a man for many reasons. Color isn’t one of them.” Jackie received the Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year award. Jackie Robinson played his last Major League game for the Brooklyn Dodgers on October 10, 1956.

In addition to the awards and achievements already mentioned, Jackie was a 6-time All-Star, 1-time World Series Champion, and NL MVP. He was also named to the Major League Baseball All-Century team. His career stats were also quite impressive with a .311 batting average, 1518 hits, 137 home runs, 734 earned runs and 197 stolen bases. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, the first black player in history, and in 1972 his number 42 jersey was retired by all Major League teams. Jackie Robinson died of a heart attack in Stamford Connecticut on October 24, 1972. He was 53 years old.

In the process of researching the complicated sports betting industry, I have come across quite a few tips and advice. All this should be known by both new and experienced bettors. In this article, I want to share with you a sports betting tip that I have learned.

This important sports betting tip that will help you make the right choices consistently is to join a betting system service that will show you ways to win your bets most of the time.

You may be wondering, how successful can these betting systems make me? The answer is simple; very successful. Many people who have used this type of program to learn how to pick the right bets end up winning 80% or more of their bets. If a person’s money is managed properly, the earning potential can be very high.

One such type of learnable sports betting system is called Sports Betting Champ and I highly recommend it to new and veteran bettors. If you are ready to take your betting to the next level, this may be a tool to help you. The strategies it provides can prove invaluable.

The part that I personally like about sports betting is that it can generate a very decent supplemental income. Everyone likes to spend extra money and this is a great way to get it. It is surprising that more people do not take advantage of the opportunities created by gambling.

In closing, this is the best sports betting advice I have come across. If you want to learn a betting system that can be followed closely and used to earn extra money, I highly recommend it.

In the world of martial arts there are few styles that capture the imagination the way animal styles do. Even though these systems are famous and often commonly practiced in Gong Fu, they are commonly misunderstood and misrepresented. In this article I hope to shed some light on animal styles and their relevance to modern training.

Common myths about animal styles

There are many misconceptions about animal styles in the martial arts today, some of which we need to address before proceeding.

Common Myth One: Animal styles are just for show and have no real function.

When you look at the vast majority of animal groomers today, it’s not hard to believe this one. Animal styles were developed to emphasize groups of similar concepts, and thus the imitative actions of the styles seek to highlight functionality. Unfortunately, many practitioners get so caught up in trying to be an animal that they forget why they were there in the first place.

Common Myth Two: Animal styles are all about hand positions.

Often the depth of many practitioners stops at hand position training. I’ve heard instructors tell students that tiger stance is tiger claw and crane stance is about using the beak hand. If you believe that, I suppose it becomes true, but in my experience, this is not the case. There are many animal styles that do not contain any characteristic hand techniques. There are entire Tiger Boxing systems that don’t use the claw at all, and crane styles that almost never use a pickaxe are quite common but often go unnoticed because they don’t look good.

Common Myth Three: Animal styles were created by Bodhidharma in the Shaolin Temple.

This is complete rubbish and sadly it is the Shaolin Temple that seems to be spreading it. If you watch any of the wandering monk shows or watch any of the Shaolin documentaries that have been produced in recent years, you will see that this myth is being pushed very hard. The modern animal styles that are coming out of the temple are not classic styles. They are full of stunts and usually run around and pretend to be an animal, but with very little actual functionality (except marketing).

Martial arts evolve, and the currently commonly practiced Shaolin animal styles are valid in context, but to claim that all the martial arts we see in Shaolin today were developed by Da Mo is ridiculous. At the very least, Da Mo (Bodhidharma) lived over a thousand years before the first Shaolin Animal form was built. This myth discredits the countless Masters who made outstanding contributions to Shaolin Gong Fu during the more than 1,500 years of Shaolin history.

So what are animal styles?

Animal Styles are more correctly known as Imitative Styles (Xing Quan) and are a unique feature of classical Chinese martial arts. The masters developed these styles as a way to explore the nature of human consciousness by exploring the different ‘minds’ that animals represent. The animal is an archetype that the practitioner can explore to understand the mutability of the human mind.

The purpose of imitation is to free us from our everyday identity and thus explore ways of thinking that we would not normally have considered. This creates a paradigm shift and expands our understanding and barriers accordingly. The first imitative system was not martial at all, but was developed for health prevention.

The Wu Xing Xi (Five Animal Frolics) was developed by Hua Tuo, and by using the imitative actions of the tiger, bear, deer, monkey, and bird, the body’s natural health systems can be regulated and balanced. These exercises were popular for health but did not directly inspire the development of animal-mimicking systems.

In the 1600s, a Shaolin master, Bai Yu Feng, set out to revitalize the Shaolin system. He traveled around China for three years meeting masters and learning a variety of styles. After three years, he returned to Shaolin and built a new style by combining five systems that he had found in his travels. This ‘new’ style was the Shaolin Five Animal Fist – Shaolin Wu Xing Quan.

Five animals of Shaolin

Shaolin Wu Xing Quan contains five different imitations: tiger, crane, snake, leopard and dragon. Each of these styles had existed before in this form, but it was Bai Yu Feng who combined them into a single style where each animal complemented the other. There were records of animal boxing for centuries before Bai Yu Feng, but they were scattered examples and none had captured the imagination the way this style had.
Each of these animals will be explored in detail in later articles, but I wanted to mention another version of Bai Yu Feng’s boxing: Wu Xing Ba Fa Quan.

Wu Xing Ba Fa Quan means the Eight Laws of Five Animal Boxing and is an abbreviated form of Bai Yu Feng’s original style. In Wu Xing Ba Fa Quan, the various aspects of the system help develop the practitioner to improve all of his Gong Fu. In this way the Tiger exercises develop muscle strength and help increase bone density. The Crane develops Jing (manifested Qi), while the Snake develops fluid control of one’s own Qi. The Leopard develops speed and power, and the Dragon develops the ability to stand still. All this is possible thanks to the correct application of Ba Fa or Eight Laws.

The Eight Laws are:

Correct use of internal skills.
Correct use of external abilities.
Correct application of the mind
Development of the Six Harmonies through the hands
Development of the Six Harmonies through Legacy and Footwork
Correct application of the three areas of the body
Correct application of Chin Na functionality
Correct development of Qigong.
Although some historians believe that Bai Yu Feng’s style was originally called Wu Xing Ba Fa Quan, the versions most commonly practiced in Shaolin today are just variations on the abridged form.

After Bai Yu Feng

After Bai Yu Feng, imitative styles became very popular, and many different imitations began to appear. In addition to the original five animals of tiger, crane, leopard, dragon and snake, there are many others, including mantis, eagle, monkey, drunkard, white ape, dog, phoenix, elephant, lion, swallow, hawk, rooster, duck, fish , Tortoise, Toad, Scorpion and many more. Some animals became so popular that they became unique systems, while many others survived with only a few techniques, such as the Vulture.

As the concept of imitative practice spread, entire exercise systems and weapon styles began to appear, such as the Monkey Pole and the Drunken Sword. Through cinema they remain popular to this day.
Imitative styles are popular in Shan Men Shaolin Quan and there are many imitative routines in the curriculum. Students begin learning Wu Xing Ba Fa Quan at Level 6 (Purple Sash).

The supposed trade deadline for the National Basketball Association has passed, and there are already some results. It was supposed to be an opportunity for some big names to exchange addresses. But it will take some time for some of the players to adjust to their new teammates. Such as Marcus Camby, Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, “Catfish” Travis Outlaw, Tracy McGrady, Kevin Martin, and just to name a few players without top billing.

First, Marcus Camby is a legit 6’11 shot-blocker with plenty of length. Marcus can run the court with great stride and grace. The increased visibility regarding the lack of defense in the middle has left the Portland Trial Blazers with no choice but to find a stopper in the paint. Looking at the Trail Blazers lineup, it looks like they are a playoff team. But it will take time for Marcus Camby to establish himself as a Blazer. For example, Marcus did not disappoint against the Utah Jazz on Sunday night with 18 rebounds and four blocks. It will probably take a few weeks for Marcus to practice with his new teammates and become more familiar with the team’s plays. Personally, I didn’t like trading “Catfish” Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake for a 35-year-old center. But the Portland Trail Blazers have been known to make strange player moves.

Second, I hope Antawn Jamison was nervous against the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night. Jamison’s shooting debut was 0-for-12. I know “King” LeBron James expects something completely different in the next few games. Antawn should help by coming off the beach with his 20-point-per-game average. He is a sound engineer with a professional attitude. I expect Jamison to contribute more in the upcoming playoffs and regular season games. The Cleveland Cavaliers will definitely be in the Eastern finals. It’s up to LeBron James and O’Neal to help with the smooth transition from Antawn. So he looks out for a big playoff series between Cleveland, Boston, Atlanta or Orlando. The way LeBron executes and provides leadership, the sky is the limit for Cleveland.

Third, The Catfish has left Portland, Oregon. I was disappointed that the Trail Blazers traded to Outlaw. I’m embarrassed that my Trail Blazers are known for setting up good players and trading them. It appears the Blazers made the move just to guarantee a playoff shot. Wasting the future for instant gratification is not a great concept. Outlaw is a very good small forward who can run the floor, play above the rim, play in the fourth quarter and be a great teammate. For example, in overtime against the Utah Jazz on Sunday, the Blazers lost a 25-point lead because players didn’t step up. Outlaw would have provided points down the stretch to help Brandon Roy. If the Blazers really want to make the playoffs, someone other than Brandon will have to produce at crucial moments. Hopefully, Travis Outlaw will get a chance to prove himself in Los Angeles. Ex-Blazers have been known to hunt down the Trail Blazers again, and Travis will be one of them.

Meanwhile, Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood should help the Dallas Mavericks. Both players are great partners and very selfless players. Haywood is long and can fill the middle. I think Caron Butler just needed a chance to play for a contender. Caron’s skills will definitely show during the playoff run. The Dallas Mavericks have been winning since they made the trade. I know that Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd are pleased with the strong offensive and defensive efforts of their new teammates.

Last but not least, Tracy McGrady is a fine player and an All-Star. I don’t know about her arrogance in the locker room. Tracy seems to annoy people and doesn’t fit into certain teams if he isn’t the main focus. I think the Knicks hired McGrady because of salary and fan attendance issues. The Knicks have a chance to land a big free agent in 2011. I think the Knicks are using Tracy McGrady as a pawn to lure players like LeBron James. It’s not a bad move to land McGrady, but what if it’s not enough to provide an incentive for other free agents? To illustrate this point, if Tracy McGrady scores like he did the other night in his home debut with the Knicks and stays injury-free, free agents should come running to New York. Also, the Houston Rockets will be even better with Kevin Martin. Martin, Brooks and Ariza’s backcourt should be one of the most explosive in the league. Houston is starting to get really scary and it’s going to be a tough exit in the playoffs. Martin will provide Houston’s missing score at the other guard position. Great comeback for the Houston Rockets and hopefully the Trail Blazers won’t have to watch them during the playoffs.

To conclude, the NBA player movement is all about competing for position to win the NBA title. The team to chase are the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant. It’s not bad to raise the stakes over commercial players, but only time will tell if certain teams are successful. It probably wouldn’t have mattered if the Lakers had moved a player or not. The Lakers are the Hunted, and they are resting Kobe to repeat and the fifth title. The new look of certain teams will improve their chances, but it will probably be just another move to take on the cream of the crop and lose. After all, the playoffs will be exciting for the NBA and the fans.

The presence of couples unable to conceive is a problem that has grown in recent decades. Previously, this problem hardly existed and has surfaced a few years ago. About 15 percent of couples experience trouble conceiving each year, and that’s not all. The census is constantly growing.

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive even after engaging in sexual activities without taking any precautions. It was stated in a popular study conducted by experts that on average, about 38 percent of the time men are responsible for the problem, about 52 percent of the time women are responsible, and in the rest of the cases, both sexes they are guilty.

However, technology has overcome even the greatest of problems and it is now possible for all couples to be blessed with their children. This article talks about the various solutions or ways that men can rule out the problem and be able to design.

1. Avoid Men’s Tight Underwear: First things first and it involves changing clothes. Men should stop wearing men’s underwear styles that can cause a lot of heat buildup there. As stated in many researches and studies, men’s underwear can cause problems and heat in the private parts. However, the only solution if you love underpants is to give your manhood time to breathe properly. Choosing other clothing styles like men’s thongs or trendy men’s jockstraps would be a better idea.

2. Reduce stress level: Stress is probably the biggest problem that both men and women face. It leads to all the newer problems including lower sperm count. “All work and no play makes Jack a boring boy”! This statement is so true in the modern concept where work takes most of the energy and time, and the moment you think of having fun; you are almost exhausted. Adequate sleep with a relaxed mind is all you need to reduce the stress of the day.

3. Refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol: Some of the most fashionable things/habits that are prevalent today among men and women are smoking and alcohol. According to one study, “men who smoke have 27% fewer sperm than men who don’t.” Likewise, alcohol raises the level of estrogen in the male body which negatively affects the sperm count. Therefore, refraining from these two habits will set you on the path to improvement.

4. Exercise regularly: Whether it’s for sperm count or your overall health; exercise is a very important part of your life. The more open your body is to exercise, the better your intimate organs will work. Exercising regularly would help you produce more testosterone which leads to higher sperm count. Make sure you enjoy the exercises you love and refrain from doing more than your body allows. This has adverse effects and causes testosterone deficiency.

5. Eat a lot and eat healthy: You must be wondering why these two contradictory statements were made together. Eating a lot would include all the junk food that has carbohydrates and fatty acids, which are supposed to be avoided. On the other hand, make sure you eat plenty of vegetables, fish and meat, eggs, cashews, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. These foods are rich in ingredients that will help your body function better and produce more sperm.

These are some of the many things you (men) can do to increase your sperm count. Apart from these, there are medical facilities, both homeopathic and allopathic, that can help you have a happy family.

Can you imagine what it must be like to be a fly on the wall at a Knicks staff meeting these days? With the daunting task of turning a beloved franchise from laughing stock to contender in a New York minute, it’s no secret that Donnie Walsh & Co. are very busy.

While the administration has made it a priority to get the free-agent class of 2010 salary-cap friendly, they’ve been eerily quiet about conveying any semblance of a strategic plan beyond that. Coach Mike D’Antoni has often said that he and Donnie are “on the same page (and will always be) on the same page.” Still, one has to wonder if the 2009 offseason (or lack thereof) is indicative of a directional disconnect.

Die-hard fans and even beaten-up writers cling to the catchphrase “In Donnie We Trust,” but when it comes to managing fan expectations, it feels like “LeBron or bust.”

Going into the draft, the expectation of most was to acquire our PG of the future in Ricky Rubio or Stephen Curry (though he’ll certainly make a living as a shooter). The Knicks were unable or unwilling to move up in the draft to take either player, but were pleased to select PF/C Jordan Hill, who slipped past them at No. 8. Donnie Walsh was able to buy the No. 1 pick round of the Lakers and land Toney Douglas, who based on a small sample of the summer league, could be a good player for the team down the road. Finally that night, the Knicks also traded locker room leader Quentin Richardson for potential Darko Milicic, a move that could be discussed either way.

Regarding free agency, many observers felt that veterans Jason Kidd, Grant Hill and Andre Miller used the Knicks as leverage to negotiate better deals for themselves. Did they ever talk seriously about the Knicks? Did the Knicks really think these players would attract free agents in 2010? Did the Knicks lose or did they burn out on purpose to reduce some competition in the market? We can all speculate until our faces are blue, but I don’t think we’ll ever know the answer to these questions. Though it’s hard to argue against the idea that Steve Nash, D’Antoni’s former pet, used the Knicks as necessary bait when he negotiated his contract extension with the Suns.

One thing is certain, two talented young fan favorites, David Lee and Nate Robinson, sit in limbo as restricted free agents, with limited power due to the Knicks’ ability to match any offer they receive. David Lee has openly expressed his frustration with the situation; unsure what will happen, but apparently shaken by the whole process. When all is said and done (and we think he’ll be a Knick in 2010), will all be forgotten? Nate Robinson, who seemed to be on a one-way ticket out of the country, is reportedly now close to signing a one-year deal, but according to Nate, his future is still uncertain.

That brings us to Ramon Sessions, who entered the conversation a little over 2 weeks ago as the potential PG of the future. What do we know about Ramón Sessions? He is only 23 years old and has a lot of hearts. As a junior out of the University of Nevada, Sessions was selected 56th (of 60) by the Bucks in 2007. He became the first NBA player assigned to the Developmental League, where he lit up and was called up to the big boys. quickly. proving later that he belonged

With today’s rumors that a Sessions deal is imminent pending the Bucks matchup, amid news that the Knicks have until Thursday to negotiate a deal for Jason “White Chocolate” Williams, compounded by meetings of Jamal Tinsley, Knicks fans have to be left scratching their heads a bit. little bit.

Is Sessions really much better than Duhon? Does anyone compare to Nate?

Are Williams and Tinsley mere pawns to twist the arms of Sessions and Robinson’s agents?

Do any of these moves make us more attractive to 2010 free agents?

What about 2011 free agency?

Hopefully, as Knicks fans, this is all really a well thought out plan and mastermind Donnie Walsh is just messing with the rest of the league.

Athletes and even non-athletes are always looking for ways to build an EDGE!

Here are ten surefire ways to INCREASE performance… Guaranteed!

1.) Know your goals = Sounds obvious, but I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met and trained that just don’t know what they want. Usually they can only tell me what they don’t want. That’s not good enough. YOU need to know in crystal clarity that what you are chasing can be explained in vivid detail!

2.) Develop a sense of urgency = As I write this article, the Tampa Bay Bucs are beating the Seattle Seahawks 17-3. Seattle is facing a fourth-and-a-yard situation… What do you think they decided to do? Yes, you got it, go for it! It’s not hard to understand: they should try because they realize as a team that if they don’t take EVERY OPPORTUNITY they can, it’s over! Developing a sense of urgency is doing just that: realizing that if you don’t use EVERY POSSIBILITY to prepare for performance the way you REALLY can…Eventually, your opportunity will be lost!

3.) Connect Emotionally = Not enough people connect emotionally with their targets! Sure they want to achieve them, BUT there isn’t always this BURNING DESIRE to see it achieved because “IT MEANS A LOT!” Well, right? Do your goals and dreams have a burning desire behind them? What will it really mean if you don’t make it? Sure, it may not be fatal, BUT if there isn’t a substantial amount of PAIN associated with NOT achieving them, then I’d say they’re not serious goals. Are you connected?

4.) Track Your Progress = Hey, you keep score during competition, why not keep score relative to how well you’re training and preparing? Makes sense? Tracking your progress is nothing more than looking at what you’re doing right and areas you may need to adjust. Try keeping a training diary – it will help you keep track and stay focused! It often helps to build confidence in the things you are doing well to get ready to PERFORM!

5.) Making Adjustments = Throughout my childhood, as a young athlete, I noticed that if YOU didn’t get angry, stamp your feet and even throw a tantrum or two… You really didn’t care! That’s a lot of garbage! Certainly, I believe there should be a level of Healthy Dissatisfaction for a job that is less than the best, however, I don’t believe in “Mistreating yourself!” I have a saying with my son (age 10, wrestler and soccer player): “Don’t get frustrated… Don’t beat yourself up, just make adjustments!” The only thing YOU are good at when beating yourself up is… “Beating yourself up!” It breeds negativity, low self-esteem, and ultimately sabotages your best performances! Hey, “What adjustments are you making?”

6.) Seek Advice = Too often we hear behind mega-successful people who were “self-made.” I have news for you… There is no such thing! Whether your inspiration comes from someone in history who wrote a book or from some mentor who told you one thing, we are constantly being shaped by others and their ideas. So seek advice: sage advice from “good people” who “have been there and done that.” Find a few mentors you can keep in touch with and ask them questions about their struggles, attitudes, triumphs, disappointments, and the best takeaways from their experiences. Keep a pen and pad handy and write down anything that is potentially helpful. You’ll find a “gold mine” of help and who knows, you may be the one to help you become the next self-made… Ooops… Skip that: “The next successful person who eventually becomes!” into someone else’s mentor!

7.) Protect Your Mindset = Everyone Has An Opinion – Lots of people mean well and want to coach you and contribute to your success. Some, however, are simply not qualified to help. Keep your mind and thoughts PROTECTED! There are also people who are just plain negative and will take away your passion to perform at the highest level! Stand back and remember this proverb… “Wise men walk among wise men and fools with fools!” Choose which one makes the most sense for your success and your future!

8.) Enjoy the Process = It’s Really Simple! Enjoy the fact that YOU are truly unique in the sense that very few people would choose to pursue what you pursue: your goals and dreams. Please do yourself, your mind, and your body a favor… Allow yourself to experience the joy of hard work, sacrifice, exceptional focus, discipline, and everything else that comes with “Chasing Your Goals and Dreams” . Like I said, “It’s really simple… It’s just not easy!”

9.) Develop routines that help YOU master performance = Create pre-competition routines, warm-ups, performance prompts, visualization exercises, etc. they have been shown to increase the performance levels of people in the performance business. Take a look at my previous posts to better understand how some of these routines really help!

10.) Run = As Nike says; “Just do it!” After all the preparation with the best and most suitable equipment, training, training, recovery and even Mental Skills Training… The bottom line is that YOU will be called upon to “Step Up and Take Action”. The most important key to being able to do this is to develop a sincere desire to “Want to act!” In other words, if you’re a fighter… Your favorite place to be is when it’s “Match Time.” If you’re a soccer player… Your favorite place to be is when it’s “Game Time.” Choose a sport or event: YOU have to learn to LOVE the moment that means the most… The moment when the result means something. Remember this… You are a Performer! PERFORMERS LOVE TO PERFORM!

Follow these 10 surefire ways to increase your PERFORMANCE and I promise…

YOU will be MORE SUCCESSFUL than ever!

Until next time…

Remember, “It’s just your life, chase it!”

Every year you will read or hear a Major League manager declare that his first and absolute most important rule is that each of his players must run hard to first base, every time. Then, inevitably, during the season, players will be penalized or banned for not obeying the first and absolute most important rule. Frankly, it’s horrible that such a basic tenet of the game needs to be mentioned at the highest level of baseball; because it’s the easiest thing for a player to do during a game, and not doing it can be the difference between your team winning or losing.

For a very good reason, the name of the Game is Baseball. The objective of each player when entering the batter’s box is to reach all four bases safely, as the result will be to score at the plate or to help his teammates advance safely, so they can score. The next logic is that each player should run as fast as he can to each base, each game, to minimize the defense’s ability to keep them from scoring. When they score, it’s not called a touchdown, basket, goal, or point; It’s called Run! The symmetry is obvious; Each baserunner must run as fast as he can to each base to increase his team’s chances of scoring runs. It’s as simple as it sounds!

A common belief is that a player cannot steal first base. Is not true. Just as other bases can be stolen due to a bad throw, a missed throw, or a fielder’s lack of urgency, the same can be said for 1st base. To steal a base, each player knows that he must run as fast as possible or be ejected. The fact that all defenders accept this reality creates the pressure that causes those mistakes. The run to first base is no exception.

Over the last four decades, base running has eroded to the point where when a player runs hard for every base, every game, it has become the exception, not the norm. The old rule was that all players always ran hard to each base and any player who didn’t was sitting down, warming up the bench or playing for another team. Because running hard was a given, not running hard was completely unacceptable, especially at 1st base, because a batter cannot get to any other base safely, until he first gets safely to 1st base. It’s more about symmetry.

This is what some professionals said:

  • HOF Red Schoendienst, Mgr.: “…good players run to first base as fast as they can after hitting the ball.”
  • CHOF, Coach, Skip Bertman-LSU, 5X Champs: “A bad start from home plate can make the difference between being safe or out on a tight play at first base. Every player has to give 100 percent when he runs to first You can never know when an easy ground ball will be kicked. Naturally, every player should be reminded not to look at the ball. The runner should keep his eyes on first base. No! Don’t jump to the base.”
  • CHOF, Ron Fraser-UofM, 2X Champs: “The ultimate run from the batter’s box to first base begins immediately after the ball is hit. No time should be wasted looking at the ball. Even the time it takes to look in the direction of the ball can mean the difference between arriving safely and being out.”
  • HOF Satchel Paige, “Don’t look back. Something may be gaining on you.”

To be clear, chasing the ball isn’t just about running to first, it’s also about looking at the receiver in a steal attempt. Also, many Major League players make the mistake of keeping their eyes on the ball when running to other bases. Sometimes they will even miss or stumble on a base, failing to advance to the next base when the opportunity was there to seize it.

If the batter hits a ball to right field, the play is in front of him and he makes the decision to try to get to second base and decides if there is a possibility of also advancing to third base. Once you decide to take that risk, you should stop looking at the play the outfielder is making, focus on making an aggressive turn around 2nd base, then watch for the 3rd base coach’s signal to stop at 2nd or continue. to the 3rd. If the ball is hit to center or left field, the choice is made after an aggressive turn around 1° when the runner has the play in front of him again. If the coach waves, it becomes the responsibility of the on-deck batter to signal the runner to slide or get up to cross home plate. Once the runner turns around to second position, it is his responsibility to run as fast as he can and accept the decisions of the coach and the hitter, not try to follow the ball.

If you look, you lose!

There is a very sensible unwritten rule that a runner should never make the first or third out of an inning at 3rd base. A runner who has safely reached second base with no outs is already in scoring position for a base hit and can possibly score without the benefit of a hit for two subsequent outs. The runner who reaches 2nd with two outs is also in scoring position and will end the inning by making the third out on 3rd, eliminating the chance to score. Making the first or second out at the plate falls into the same category.

The unwritten rule regarding lead from 2nd is, with less than two outs, unless forced by having a runner on 1st, don’t run immediately on a ground ball to your right between the runner and 3rd base. If he is fielded by the third baseman or shortstop, the result will likely be an easy out. A runner should immediately break for third if the ball lands to his left, as it becomes a difficult throw for the shortstop or second baseman, they rarely make the attempt, and if the ball reaches the outfield, there may be a chance to score. In all cases, especially with all the drastic changes in the infield today, the running back should look, before each pitch, for the location of the infielders. Their positions can change with every throw and affect the decision to break or not.

Opponents will love any team that violates these unwritten rules.

Baseball has been played professionally for more than 120 years and has since developed a rich history of strange events and unusual moments. One of the strangest things that can happen during a baseball game is to lose the right. A turnover is an obscure rule, implemented whenever the referees determine that it is no longer safe for players to be on the field. Lost baseball games are rare, and many of the game’s most memorable moments have been the result of them. Since 1970, there have only been five DNFs in Major League Baseball.

September 30, 1971 During the last game before the Washington Senators moved to Texas to become the Rangers, angry fans stormed the field during the ninth inning of a game against the Yankees. Fans tore up grass and knocked down seats. Security tried to restore order, but after a while, the crowd became too large to contain.

June 4, 1971 The Cleveland Indians ran a promotion called 10 Cent Beer Night. The idea was to lure people into the stadium by offering cheap alcohol, but what the promoters didn’t plan for was thousands of drunken and rowdy fans trashing the venue. In the bottom of the ninth inning against Texas, two fans jumped over the outfield wall and began assaulting Rangers outfielder Jeff Burroughs. This made the crowd nervous and a riot soon broke out resulting in the referees declaring a loss.

September 15, 1977 Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver was ejected from the game by a referee in a game against the Blue Jays in Toronto. Weaver claimed his players were in danger from an oddly placed tarp in the bullpen. Weaver was insulted at being sent off and refused to let his team play again. The umpires had no choice but to award the game to the Blue Jays.

July 12, 1979 The most famous lost game was Disco Demolition Night. A Chicago radio station infamous for being critical of disco teamed up with the owner of the Chicago White Sox for a promotion in which thousands of albums would explode on the field. Fans were offered free admission if they brought in a disco album to blow up. The promotion was a great success and thousands of people had to be rejected. When it was time to blow up the albums, a giant pile was set up on the field and a large amount of dynamite placed around it. The explosion left a giant hole in the grass and everyone who was denied entry began to climb into the stadium. A riot broke out and thousands of people celebrated and trashed the stadium before a baseball could even be played.

August 10, 1995 The Los Angeles Dodgers gave away free baseballs with a photo of outfielder Raúl Mondesi printed on them. In the ninth inning of a close game, Mondesi was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. The fans became very upset with the ejection and started throwing baseballs onto the field. The referees had no choice but to declare a loss when the fans did not stop. MLB soon banned clubs from giving away anything that could easily be thrown onto the field.
