The biggest news to come out of last night’s hectic 12-game NBA schedule was that yes, Ron Artest would be leaving for the Sacramento Kings for Peja Stojakovic. We hope the Maloof brothers don’t get rid of The Palms Hotel any time soon!

As for short action, the Pistons needed overtime, but their 106-102 win over the Bucks gives them a 35-5 record, making it the fourth-best 40-game start in NBA history. .

My bye Thursday is South Alabama over Denver at 9:00 ET. Another 2-1 night at CBB on Wednesday and my college career has gone 16-6-1, since Jan 14! Even more impressive, my CBB 15* plays have been cashed out at a rate of 77.8% since January 1st, after winning my first total CBB play of the season.

My 15* game at DePaul/Marq ‘low’ on Wednesday, ‘covered’ by OVER 30 points! Don’t miss my 15* CBB Underdog Shocker tonight, my ONLY play on a busy 36 game CBB ‘board’!

Thursday night’s NBA card has just three games on TNT with a doubleheader. The Phoenix Suns are in Miami to take on the Heat at 8:05 ET. The Suns beat the Heat 11-93 in Phoenix on January 6, scoring 47 points in the first quarter! Shaq was limited to a season-low eight points in that contest and these days, he must feel like he’s still playing for the Lakers. Tonight’s game marks Miami’s 12th straight competition against a Western opponent. Miami is 7-4 SU and ATS in the top 11. The Heat are favored by 5 1/2 points tonight with a total of 211 1/2.

Late in the game (10:35 ET), the Mavericks, owners of the third-best record in the league at 32-10, visit Seattle to take on the Sonics. Dallas is 17-6 on the road (tying Detroit for the most road wins of any team) but just 10-11-2 ATS. Seattle has won consecutive games for the first time since Bob Hill took over as head coach (4-7 overall), but enters just 14-27 after last year’s 52-win season. Dallas is favored by 5 1/2 points with a total of 210 1/2.

No. 9 West Va entered the AP poll at No. 9 on Monday, the school’s first visit to the top 10 in 24 years. The Mountaineers’ stay will not last long, since last night they were defeated at home (58-52), by a Marshall team that entered the game with a 7-9 record. The loss ended West Va’s 12-game winning streak, which was the longest in the country.

Illinois easily beat Minnesota last night 77-53 and captured its 32nd straight win at home (a new school record). Gonzaga also has 32-game winning streak at home, but both top-10 schools trail Southern Illinois, which owns the longest home winning streak in the country at 33-game winning streak.

For those of you who haven’t gotten the final scores, two Mountain West Conference schools are noteworthy. Air Force, a school under its THIRD coaching in three seasons, opened 17-3 after beating UNLV (52-50) last night.

Former Nugget head coach Jeff Bzdelik has done a great job. Especially when you consider last year’s MWC co-player of the year (6-10 center Nick Welch), he was lost to injury before the start of the season. Last night, the Falcons overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half and finished the game with a final run of 14-5!

Everyone remembers Steve Fisher’s dramatic run to the national title with Michigan in 1989. Well, these days, Fisher is living the good life in San Diego. However, in his seventh year at San Diego State, Fisher has the Aztecs off to his best start (13-6) in more than 20 years and his best conference start (6-1) in more than 20 years. 30 years

The Aztecs beat New Mexico last night 75-69 (a lack of coverage that hurt me!) but Fisher’s team deserves congratulations on their great start. With guard Brandon Heath (17.9 PPG) and forward Marcus Slaughter (16.6-10.6 RPG), the Aztecs possess the most dynamic inside-outside combination in the league.

Tonight at 7:00 ET on ESPN, No. 2 Duke is playing his first game since losing to Georgetown on Sunday (ending a 17-0 start). The nation’s remaining three undefeated lost last Saturday and Duke will try to match the effort of Pittsburgh, which beat Syracuse 80-67 on Monday, not Florida, which lost last night in South Carolina 68-62, when the Blue Devils They visit Blacksburg.

Duke ran away against Va Tech in their first meeting against the Hokies (12/4), winning 75-74 on Sean Dockery’s 40-footer at the buzzer. Va Tech enters this game 0-5 in the ACC, but all five losses have come by just a combined 25 points. Duke is favored by 11 points and the total is 141.

The only other game on national television tonight on the 36-game college basketball schedule is a Sun Belt game, La-Lafayette at Western Kentucky. At 9:00 ET on ESPN2, the Hilltoppers, 13-5, including a league-best 5-1 conference record, host the Rajun ‘Cajuns, who are just 5-12 and own the worst record conference call of any of the Sun Belt 11. teams (1-5). Western Ky is favored by 11 points with a total of 142 1/2.

In a game not televised but NOT to be missed, No. 3 Memphis hosts UAB 14-3 at 8:00 ET. The Tigers are off to the second-best start in school history, but they’re actually looking up the Blazers in the C-USA standings. UAB is 4-0 in the league, while Memphis is 3-0. With West Va’s loss last night, UAB’s 10-game winning streak is the longest in the country. Memphis is a 10-point favorite with a total of 154.

Ness notes are available Monday through Friday at 1:00 ET. Due to travel plans, my coverage of the NFL will begin next Monday.

Post-Newsweek Stations owns WDIV-TV, or virtual channel 4, a television station affiliated with NBC. WDIV-TV is the group’s flagship station and is based in Detroit, Michigan. Therefore, the news broadcast is known as Detroit channel 4 news. It is also the base of operations for the group, which has the offices of Post-Newsweek Stations located next to the WDIC-TV studios. Along with its flagship status, all of the group’s stations were brought under the umbrella of the ‘Local’ brand.

Prior to 1978, Detroit’s Channel 4 news station was known as WWJ-TV. The new name came about after the Evening News Association swapped stations with the Washington Post to circumvent regulations the FCC was considering at the time. Although ultimately not approved, the new policy would limit the ownership of print and television media in the same market. WWJ-TV was renamed WDIV-TV, for which the ‘D’ stood for ‘Detroit’ and the ‘IV’ stood for the number ‘4’ written in Roman numerals.

WDIV is notable for a number of firsts in its broadcast history. When it signed with WWDT in 1946, it became the first television station in Michigan. It aired regularly a year after the one-day demo lineup in 1946. WDIV, also said to stand for ‘Where Detroit Is Vital,’ also bagged the first broadcast of Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Lions games. It was also the first television station in Michigan to broadcast in color in 1954.

WDIV ended its analog television broadcast in the first half of 2009, converting completely to digital broadcasting. This marked the end of 62 years of broadcasting on channel 4. Although its digital feeds are carried on the pre-transition channel number 45, its virtual channel still reads ‘4’ thanks to the system and program information protocol (PSIP ) used to transmit to digital television receivers.

I just finished a biography chronicling the life of Ted Turner.

The man behind CNN is a brilliant visionary. He helped create the cable news industry as we know it.

Turner went through hell at times, a side of his life that not many know about. His father severely beat him and emotionally abused him. In the end, his father decided to commit suicide due to his mental demons.

The billionaire proves that you can move in any direction when faced with adversity. You can become a victim or a victor.

Made adversity a springboard

After enduring severe mental and physical abuse for years and suffering from his father’s suicide, Turner also committed suicide. He was a severely depressed man who experienced the highest ups and the lowest downs.

Instead of sending emails into his life, he was able to transform these energies into a tremendous momentum that created the titan he is today. He turned his obstacles into rungs.

He is confident and brash

Turner didn’t care what anyone else said or thought. He was a maniac to achieve his goals and he wasn’t afraid to tell people what he was going to do before he did it.

Some might call his attitude arrogance, others a level of supreme confidence. To achieve billionaire status, you must believe in yourself so deeply that you ignore anyone or anything that suggests you can’t become world famous. Some may develop their thick skin in a more humble way, but I can’t argue with their results.

He is always innovating

Do you realize how billionaires constantly come up with ideas to change the world? That’s why they are billionaires; they are less concerned about money and more concerned about creating.

Turner has owned the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Hawks, and is frequently involved in environmental causes. Grass does not grow under his feet.

I enjoy reading about the lives of successful people before they “made it.” As my girlfriend noted, the general public sees successful people as a different species, but many of these people had to experience trials and tribulations like each of us, or in many cases worse. Ted Turner’s biography mentioned Abraham Lincoln and a handful of other creative geniuses who were probably severe manic depressives like TT.

Matt Fargo takes a brief look at each game this Sunday and offers some thoughts and trends.

CINCINNATI AT BALTIMORE 1 p.m.

This is Cincinnati’s last game before their bye week. The Bengals sit atop the AFC North thanks to an easy schedule in which all six of their wins have come against teams that now have a combined 12-31 record. They get the Colts in two weeks. Trendsetter: CINCINNATI is 6-0 Over after 1 or more straight losses against the spread in the last 2 seasons.

The Ravens are coming off a one-point loss on Monday. This is the second of four division games in a five-game stretch, all against Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. The offense scored the most points this season against the Steelers on Monday. Trendsetter: BALTIMORE is 9-1 Over in home games in the second half of the season for the past 3 seasons.

TENNESSEE AT CLEVELAND 1 p.m.

Tennessee has lost three straight and the defense has allowed 31 or more points in five of its eight games. The Titans have a bye next week and then will play four of their next five games at home. Trendsetter: TENNESSEE is 5-13 ATS against conference opponents the past 2 seasons.

Cleveland has also lost three straight and allowed the Texans their first win of the season last Sunday. The offense has scored 16 points or fewer in five of its seven games, while the defense has allowed 19 or fewer in five straight games. Trendsetter: CLEVELAND is 10-2 under in games where the line is +3 to -3 in the last 3 seasons.

HOUSTON AT JACKSONVILLE 1 p.m.

Houston finally got into the win column last Sunday, but it could be the only one for a while, as its next three games are against teams with a winning record. The Texans’ defense tied a season low by allowing only 16 points against the Browns. Trendsetter: HOUSTON is 12-2 ATS after losing 5 of its last 6 games in the last 3 seasons.

Jacksonville allowed 20-plus points for the first time last week at St. Louis and it was their first loss of the season as the offense scored in the 20s. The Jaguars host the Ravens next week before embarking on a three-game road trip. Trendsetter: JACKSONVILLE is 13-2 under after giving up 175 or more rushing yards in the last game since 1992.

OAKLAND AT KANSAS CITY 1 p.m.

The Raiders won for the first time on the road last week at Tennessee and have now won three of their last four games to move a game under .500. This is the second game in a streak of five in seven away games after playing three games in a row at home. Trendmaker: OAKLAND is 4-16 ATS in road games after covering the deficit in 4 or 5 of their last 6 games since 1992.

The Chiefs have two straight away games and follow this game with two more on the road before finishing the season four of six at home. The loss in San Diego snapped a two-game winning streak and put them 1.5 games behind Denver. Trendsetter: KANSAS CITY is 19-8 ATS after giving up 300 or more passing yards in their last game since 1992.

ATLANTA IN MIAMI 1 p.m.

Atlanta didn’t have a bye week that was good for rest, but it snapped the momentum of a 4-1 winning streak. The Falcons are tied at three-way in the NFC South with two straight home games after this one, including a game with Tampa Bay. Trendsetter: ATLANTA is 2-11 ATS after playing a home game the past 2 seasons.

The Dolphins won for the first time on the road last Sunday at New Orleans and are now just one game behind the Patriots in the AFC East. Miami hosts New England next Sunday before participating in two straight non-division road games. Trendsetter: MIAMI is 10-1 after playing its last road game in the last 2 seasons.

DETROIT IN MINNESOTA 1 p.m.

The Lions suffered a tough home loss in overtime last week against the Bears, who took first place in the NFC North. Detroit has allowed 21 points or fewer in five straight, but the offense has scored 20 or fewer in four of those games. Trendsetter: DETROIT is 2-13 ATS as a favorite on the road with 7 points or fewer since 1992.

The Vikings’ season took a turn for the worse when Dante Culpepper sat out the rest of the season with a knee injury. Both of the Vikings’ wins have come against teams with a combined 3-12 record, but a win against Detroit could move them within a game of first place. Trendsetter: MINNESOTA is 18-5 ATS as a home underdog since 1992.

CAROLINA IN TAMPA BAY 1 pm

The Panthers have won four straight and both of their losses have come by just three points each. Carolina has played the easiest schedule in the NFL thus far, but it gets tougher with six of its last nine games coming against teams with winning records. Trendsetter: CAROLINA is 8-1 in road games with a home win in the last 3 seasons.

Tampa Bay was caught looking to the future or just not that great of a team after its loss in San Francisco. Three of their next four games are at home before a brutal three-game road trip that begins in December. Defense still ranks first in the NFL. Trendsetter: TAMPA BAY is 13-2 ATS from an upset loss as a favorite on the road since 1992.

SAN DIEGO AT THE NEW YORK JETS 1 pm

San Diego will be looking to get revenge on the Jets for last season’s overtime playoff loss. The Chargers have won four of their last six games and all four of their losses this season have been by four points or fewer. They have a goodbye next week. Trendsetter: SAN DIEGO is 10-1 ATS in away games the last 2 seasons.

The Jets haven’t played at home since an Oct. 9 win over Tampa Bay. The offense is faltering, having scored 17 points or fewer in six of its seven games this season. New York is 4-0 and is coming off a bye week with Herm Edwards. Trendsetter: NY JETS is 8-1 after being outscored for 75 or more yards in the last game for the past 3 seasons.

CHICAGO AT NEW ORLEANS 4:05 p.m.

The Bears have won three straight and now stand alone in first place in the NFC North. The victory over Detroit last Sunday was the first away from home this season and was the first game in which the offense scored more than 10 points on the road. Trendsetter: CHICAGO is 14-2 under in road games against teams giving up 24 points per game or more since 1992.

New Orleans has lost four straight and six of its last seven. The defense allowed fewer than 28 points for the first time in four games and the Saints took a breather with the entrance of the offensively challenged Bears. New Orleans has a bye next week. Trendsetter: NEW ORLEANS is 10-23 ATS in home games after losing 4 or 5 of their last 6 since 1992.

SEATTLE IN ARIZONA 4:05 p.m.

Seattle is coming off a bye week after winning three straight to take a 1.5-game lead in the NFC West. The Seahawks alternate home and away games for the rest of the season and six of the remaining nine games are against teams under .500. Trendsetter: SEATTLE is 8-0 Over when playing a team with a losing record in the last 2 seasons.

The Cardinals are three games behind the Seahawks and a loss here would likely end any chance at a division title. Arizona is 1-2 at home with both losses by five points or less and both falling in the last minute. Three of his next four are on tour. Trend Maker: ARIZONA is 8-1 above avenging a road loss against an opponent in the past 3 seasons.

NEW YORK GIANTS IN SAN FRANCISCO 4:05 pm

New York took the lead in the NFC East with a blowout of the Redskins last week. This is a sandwich game after two home games with two more home games at stake. Tampa Bay was caught sleeping last week and the Giants need to avoid disappointment. Trendsetter: NY GIANTS are 0-9 ATS vs. poor offensive teams – average

10. Felix Hernandez (Seattle Mariners) –

While Felix Hernandez has only made 4 major league starts this year, he has made enough in those 4 starts for him to be recognized as one of the best rookies in the majors. He currently has a 1.24 ERA and has been dominating opponents with the ease of a savvy veteran. Felix Hernandez is only 19 years old and probably the best pitching prospect since Mark Prior. While it’s still very early in Felix’s career, he seems to have a very bright future as a dominant No. 1 starter ahead of him.

9. Joey Gathright (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) –

Joey Gathright is one of the fastest players in Major League Baseball. Given that he only has 100 at-bats to his name, he can’t be ranked higher, but he has proven to be an excellent starting center fielder in the major leagues. He is hitting .286 and has already stolen 10 bases. Expect Gathright to fight for the stolen base title for years to come.

8. Robinson Cano (New York Yankees)-

Robinson Cano has done an excellent job at second base for the Yankees this year. He has hit .277, but he also played very well defensively at second base. Playing for the New York Yankees is also a tough proposition for any player, let alone a rookie. With the Yankees struggling to make the playoffs, the team has been under more scrutiny than ever, and Cano has handled it with all the class one could hope for.

7. Zach Duke (Pittsburgh Pirates) –

Zach Duke has shown that he has an incredibly nasty overhead curve, along with a 90 mph heater. At this point, he has a 1.87 ERA while he is 6-0 to start his major league career. Duke also pitched a lot of innings in the minors this year, so the Pirates might try to shut him down so he doesn’t burn out. Duke has shown that he is the real deal and that he could be a force on the Pirates’ staff for years to come.

6. Tadahito Iguchi (Chicago White Sox)-

Tadahito has hit .280 for the White Sox this year, but his value has been moving runners on the second hole for the White Sox. One of the big reasons the White Sox have been successful this year has been because the team has played solid fundamental baseball. A big part of his team has been Tadahito, who has consistently sacrificed his own at-bats for the good of the team. While Tadahito’s stats may not catch your eye, he has joined Major League Baseball and played an integral role in a playoff-caliber baseball club.

5. Ervin Santana (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim)-

Ervin Santana has gone 7-5 with a 4.41 ERA for the Angels this year. As the year has progressed, Ervin has become a better and better pitcher. With the Angels fighting for a playoff spot, Ervin has become a key part of the Angels’ rotation. Santana hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in his last 7 starts, and with that kind of production, you can expect Santana to be in the Angels’ rotation for years to come.

4. Joe Blanton (Oakland Athletics) –

Blanton has done an excellent job in his first full season in the major leagues. Blanton was heavily touted in the minor leagues, and he has come in and done the job for the A’s this year. Blanton has a 3.75 ERA this year, but he has shown flashes of brilliance and appears to be the No. 1 starter the A’s have been looking for.

3. Willy Taveras (Houston Astros)-

Willy Taveras has had an incredible rookie season for the Astros. He is currently hitting .301 with 31 stolen bases. He has also played excellent CF and has been a huge boost to the Astros lineup all season. When he gets on base, it’s very hard to keep him from stealing second. With Taveras in center field, the Astros have found his leadoff hitter for the present and the future.

2. Gustavo Chacin (Toronto Blue Jays)-

Gustavo has had an excellent season this year for the hapless Blue Jays. His 3.40 ERA ranks ninth in the American League. Lefties are currently only hitting .198 against him, while he went 11-6 for a losing Blue Jays team. Chacín has shown that he could become a top-tier starter in the Major Leagues in the very near future.

1. Houston Street (Oakland Athletics)-

Houston Street has been absolutely phenomenal for the Oakland Athletics this year. When Octavio Dotel came down for the A’s there was a big hole in the closer role. Mr. Street came in and not only performed well, but helped propel the A’s into the playoffs. Street has a 1.31 ERA with 16 saves and a .92 WHIP. Street should win AL Rookie of the Year this year, and with the type of arm he possesses, he could be a dominant closer for many years to come.

Honorable Mentions: Nick Swisher, Andrew Sisco, Bobby Jenks, Scott Kazmir, Chien-Ming Wang, Matt Murton, Lance Niekro, Garrett Atkins, Jeff Francoeur, Chris Duffy, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young

Are you a beginner in salsa dancing? So you may be having a mixture of nervousness and excitement at the thought of having your first salsa class. You should also believe that everyone else in your class will be new, beginners like you, and will also experience the same feelings as you.

Below are some important tips to consider before attending your first salsa lesson.

• Time is very important, so always be on time because doing it at the last minute causes classes to start late. Showing up after the lesson has started is not good for you, your teacher and your classmates.

• Always respect your teacher and concentrate when your salsa teacher is speaking.

• Such dancing is fun, and your instructor will do everything to make you realize that, and will never get frustrated if you feel like you’re not doing as well as expected.

• Salsa is a type of social dance, and you should feel comfortable asking your partner to dance, so everyone is there.

• Dress casually, and it should be comfortable when you are hot.

• Before dancing, make sure you shower and use deodorant because you will annoy your partner if you have bad body odor. However, your companions will not say anything, however, they will not prefer to dance with you.

• As it is a close contact dance, therefore, think about your dress and avoid accessories because things like jewelry, belts, etc. it can scratch or snag your partner’s clothes.

• Likewise, drinking alcoholic beverages before class is strongly discouraged.

• Since men are generally taller and stronger than women, try not to get too carried away with emotion. Your dance partners should be relaxed and enjoy their dance without worrying about getting hurt.

• It is not uncommon for women to ask men to dance; therefore, there should be no excuse for someone not to dance during salsa lessons.

Salsa dancing is good for everyone as it is fun and you socialize with your partners, you learn new things, you learn to deal with various people and you learn to cooperate with your partner. You also learn how to groom yourself well, plus the dance moves will keep your body in good shape.

The given steps will help you a lot during your salsa dance.

This was one of the most significant upsets in Super Bowl history. The New York Giants, who had a winning record of 14-6, were playing the New England Patriots, who had a winning record of 18-1. Everything pointed to the Patriots winning the game. Well, it’s not over until it’s over! In a surprising upset, the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots by a score of 17-14. This prevented the Patriots from becoming the first undefeated team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins.

The Giants made a bit of history by becoming the first NFC wild card team to win a Super Bowl. This was New York’s first title since January 1991 when they played in Super Bowl XXV. Bill Belichick coached the New England Patriots and the tagline for this Super Bowl was “Who Wants It More?” It was pretty obvious that the New York Giants were hungry for victory.

The Super Bowl game was held on February 3, 2008, in Glendale, Arizona, at the University of Phoenix football stadium. It turned out to be a rematch of the final game of the regular season. The New England Patriots entered Super Bowl XLII as 12-point favorites.

The Super Bowl XLII telecast was the most watched of all time. There was an average of 97.5 million viewers in the US alone and 148.3 total viewers who watched at least part of the game. The Super Bowl XLII telecast achieved the highest Nielsen ratings for any game seen since Super Bowl XXXIV. This Super Bowl game was also the second most watched TV show of all time here in the US.

In fact, this was one of the biggest upsets in all of Super Bowl history. The New York Giants derailed the New England Patriots’ perfect season and also turned a lackluster regular season on its head.

The New York Giants were 12-point underdogs heading into Super Bowl XLII. The New York Giants overcame the highest point differential to put the icing on the cake since the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams as 14-point underdogs in Super Bowl XXXVI in 2001.

Now we have to set our sights on Super Bowl XLIII which will take place on February 1, 2009 in Tampa Bay, Florida. You should check out the latest Super Bowl odds for Super Bowl XLIII in the sports betting futures section of BetUS.com.

For the NFC and AFC, the long and grueling road ends here in Tampa, FL. The Super Bowl is their only chance to break into gridiron greatness, their only chance to be crowned World Champions. Be present at the state-of-the-art Raymond James Stadium to see who will take home the coveted Lombardi Trophy. A friend once asked me when I had hair, “How do you know which hairbrush is right for you?” I never really thought about that. Over the years, I’ve tried various types of brushes, combs, and the like, and just stuck with what felt good on my scalp and left my hair looking and feeling healthy, but without frizz.

So I thought I’d check it out and see for myself which commonly available hairbrushes offer the best protection and the most ease of use.

In order to have healthy and manageable hair throughout your life, you must learn and practice the following tips at an early age and never forget them. The main objective is to protect and prevent your hair from being damaged.

Brush and comb your hair as infrequently and gently as possible (your fingers will do the trick). Don’t use a brush on your hair when it’s wet and start with a wide tooth comb first. Be sure not to over-brush dry hair. Never twist, ruffle or wring out your hair to towel dry, but gently wring it out with your hands.

If your hair holds a lot of static, it could be due to dry weather, dry indoor air, or fine hair type. However, you can also get static if your brush has plastic bristles or teeth. In this case, switch to a natural bristle brush or spray hairspray on the brush and style again. Handle your hair as little as possible. Avoid direct sun exposure and don’t go overboard with coloring or perms.

Now choose your brushes carefully.

As I’ve discovered over my years of using brushes, not all hairbrushes are created equal. Some are better for styling; others are ideal for creating soft or curvy waves. There are many brushes available for specific purposes. Once you figure out what your hair length, texture, and style needs are, you’ll be on your way. Check what type of brush your stylist uses. If you like, you buy it. This selection could change if you decide a shortcut is more your style.

Here are some examples:

The paddle brush

This brush is flat, wide, and best for brushing long hair and creating smooth, straight hairstyles. You can also give yourself a mini scalp massage. Due to its shape and size, this brush should not be used to brush layers. It will never add bulk, which is what layers are for.

The cushion brush

This brush is for naturally straight or straight medium length hair. The flat block reinforces the elegance of the hair. These brushes will make the most of boxy bobs, graduated cuts, and a disconnected contour. It’s called the two-tier cut.

sculpting brushes

These brushes are great for adding volume to short, textured styles that need some movement. They are great for carding. The best hairstyles for these brushes include short bobs, round layers, and textured contours like razor edges and choppy ends.

Round Thermal Brushes

These brushes can be found in all sizes including small, medium, large and jumbo barrels. When used with heat from a hair dryer, the smaller brushes act like rollers and create curls. The larger ones soften locks and add body. This is a favorite among professionals. The metal core heats up, shaping hair from the inside out. Some good thermal brushes are Beautee Sense and Olivia Garden.

Thermal Flat Brush

This brush acts like a flat iron, smoothing and straightening hair when used with the heat of a hair dryer, leaving it without bending or lifting. Whichever brush you use, hold your hair taut with the brush to create tension. This stretches the hair so it can form the new shape. It also adds sparkle and shine to your look.

Finally, be sure to look for brushes that have ball tips molded into the bristles. Ball tips that are glued or otherwise attached can pull on hair and damage it. Good brushes are an investment; if they are of good quality and well cared for, they should last for years and your hair will be much healthier due to the extra care you have put into selecting the right brushes.

The 1962-63 National Hockey League season had one of the closest finishes of the ‘Original 6’ era, at least for the top four teams. Just five points separated the first place Toronto Maple Leafs from the fourth place Detroit Red Wings. Toronto edged out the Chicago Black Hawks for first place by just one point.

Beyond Detroit, however, the NHL fell into a deep abyss. The New York Rangers finished with 56 points, 21 fewer than the Red Wings. The Boston Bruins finished with just 45, 32 points out of final playoff position.

Detroit Red Wings – Gordie Howe

Gordie Howe led the Red Wings and the entire league with 86 points. Howe received his sixth and final Art Ross Trophy for the effort. Detroit displayed a lack of diversity with Gordie’s point total playing a role in 43% of all team points. Still, the Red Wings defeated the Black Hawks in second place in the first round to earn a shot at the Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup Final.

New York Rangers – Andy Bathgate

For the eighth straight year, Andy Bathgate led the New York Rangers in scoring with 81 points. The team leader since his second year in the league, 1955-56, he would not lead again. The following season, the Rangers traded Bathgate to the Toronto Maple Leafs midway through the season. Andy finished second to Howe in the race for the Art Ross Trophy.

Chicago Blackhawks – Stan Mikita

Bobby Hull’s Art Ross earning 84 points from the previous year was definitely a distant memory as he finished 1962-63 with only 62 points. That paved the way for Stan Mikita to lead the club for the first time with 76 points. He was placed third in the league behind Bathgate and Howe.

Toronto Maple Leaves – Frank Mahovlich

Frank Mahovlich led the Maple Leafs for the second straight season with 73 points, tied for fourth in the NHL with Henri Richard of the Montreal Canadiens. The Maple Leafs were regular season champions and lost just two games in the two series required to win the Stanley Cup. Mahovlich was silenced in the playoffs with just two assists in nine games. The Leafs were led by Dave Keon with 12 points, playing in all ten of Toronto’s games.

Montreal Canadians – Henri Richard

Henri Richard led the third place Canadiens with 73 points. Montreal had the fewest wins of the six teams with just 19. However, the Habs tied 23 of 70 games to lower their point total. Montreal puts Toronto in the first round of the playoffs and lost in five games.

Boston Bruins – Johnny Bucyk

Johnny Bucyk led the hapless Boston Bruins with 66 points, four points more than teammate Murray Oliver. Boston won just 14 games, but it was an improvement from the previous season when they posted their worst winning percentage in team history in a season with 44 games or more. That mark of futility remains today.
