Does the Xbox 360 towel trick work?

We all know that the Xbox 360 has been known to fail over the years. The biggest known system issue has been the 3 red lights error. This error occurs as a result of a system hardware failure. This hardware failure is mainly due to overheating of the system causing some parts of the system to malfunction.

What is the towel trick?

So we know the problem but what is the solution. Well, a popular “fix” has popped up over the years that apparently fixed the red ring of death problem in a matter of minutes. It does not involve disassembling the system and is a simple “fix”.

Well, what is this? It is known as the towel trick. It is a simple procedure. It’s about turning on the Xbox 360. Then, you wrap it in a couple of towels and leave the system on for about 15 minutes. Then when you unwrap it and turn on the system, the system works. In fact, many have stated that it makes the system work again.

Effectiveness

However, the solution is only temporary. When the system stops working again, the towel trick should be reapplied. The theory behind the trick is that the excess heat generated by the towels resolves some of the loose connections that cause the Red Ring of Death. Regardless of the mechanics or reasoning behind it, the hack seems to get your Xbox 360 working again. So should you be glad for such an easy hack? Not so fast my friend.

There are extreme downsides to performing the towel trick on your system. The first one is that it is only temporary. You can get the 3 red lights error again in 15 minutes or you can get it in 2 weeks. You just have to know that it is a temporary solution.

Second, the wet towel trick basically fries your Xbox 360 to get it working. It’s really not a good idea in my book. You may be destroying other parts of the system to temporarily correct the 3 red lights error. So my recommendation would be not to do the wet towel trick. There are other ways to fix the 3 red lights error.

Alternatives

If your system is still under warranty, you must return it to Microsoft for repair at no cost. The warranties for the Red Ring of Death are for 3 years from the date of purchase. However, you will have to wait a while to get it back. Some have received their system fairly quickly, while others have had to wait up to 10 weeks.

If your system is no longer under warranty, then you will have to pay someone to repair it or yourself. There are a few different fixes being asked around the web. You will find many guides that people sell that claim to correct the 3 red lights error. Just do your research to make sure these guides are of good quality and that you can get your Xbox 360 fixed in a couple of hours.
