How to maintain company culture while working from home

What is an ideal Company culture? How important is it to prosper in your business? And how do you keep up with these tough times where the landscape is shifting from office to work from home?

The spirit of a company creates its culture. Developed over time, these are values, expectations, and practices that serve as a GPS to navigate the actions of its members. A positive culture will lead to more than satisfactory performance and thrives, while a negative culture will reap your output from mediocre to dysfunctional, no matter how large the company is.

Studies show that a company culture you are 1.5 times more likely to experience revenue growth of 15 percent or more over three years and 2.5 times more likely to experience significant equity growth over the same period.

In another survey, it shows that 56% of employees consider that a good workplace culture is more important than salary.

“I AM BECAUSE WE ARE” – A great corporate culture practice

An example of great entrepreneurship, which translates into a positive culture, is the “Ubuntu” practice.

There is a popular story about an anthropologist, researching a tribe in a remote African village, who decided to reward children as a parting gift when her work was almost done.

He placed a bag of candy under the tree and asked the children to line up 100 meters away from the candy. She told them it was a race and that whoever gets to the treats first will win and get the whole bag as a prize.

When the signal to continue sounded, something surprising happened. Instead of running for the candy, the children walked towards them, holding hands, leaving no children behind.

When asked why they weren’t competing with each other, the answer never ceased to amaze: “How can one of us be happy when everyone else is sad?”

This philosophy is known as “Ubuntu” which translates to “I am because we are”.

Ubuntu is the perfect company culture that one can adhere to prosper at all times, but especially during difficult times. From the employer to his employees, there are no supernumerary characters. All are key actors, main protagonists, in achieving the vision, mission and objectives of the company.

Two is company, and so is three, four and more … one is a homeless person or telecommuter

So how can you communicate a company culture Ubuntu, when everyone works remotely and scattered all over the world?

Here are three strategies for you to maintain a great corporate work culture:

  • Encourage open communication

The line of communication must be open to everyone at all times. No matter the time difference or geography, connectivity is easy today. As long as the business can take advantage of the right technology, communication can be easy through emails, chats, video calls, forums, and the list can go on.

Through these lines, everyone can share the events, goals, achievements and even spaces for improvement and unite the entire company.

  • Encourage accountability

Incorporate the company culture at your work at all times. Even if you work remotely and in isolation, you can still maintain the spirit of the company through your products. Be responsible for the products and services you represent anywhere and at any time. Keep in mind that you are the hallmark of the company and everything you do will reflect on you and the organization.

  • Keep improving

There is a tendency to be complacent and to reach a point of satiety in everything. But this should not result in inconsistencies in performance and not continue to improve. If there is a need to adapt to new strategies and techniques that will shape and enhance the company culture, then we welcome the change. Tradition may be good, but if change can better serve everyone, don’t be a fool not to. Company culture It doesn’t grow overnight, after all. It is a continuous learning process.
