Marketing 101: Effective Ways to Market Your Childcare Services

Marketing a daycare business does not have to be an expensive exercise, if it is managed effectively. Your marketing budget can be as expensive or as cheap as you like. That said, sometimes it pays to spend a little more on marketing to ensure higher profits. Remember not to fall into the trap of being “penny pound wise fool”. Here are a few suggestions to help you promote your daycare center:

1. Marketing Collateral / Direct Mailers

Direct mailings are very important marketing tools. They don’t need to be flashy. A simple brochure that tells your audience about your center and what it offers is enough.

Distribute them where possible; put them up in community clubs, cafes and restaurants and/or hire temporary help to distribute them at train stations, bus stations, basically any high traffic area in and around your neighborhood.

And if the budget allows, a brochure will be a nice addition, especially when someone asks for more details about your center. However, if you are a fresh start and have a bit of low funds, a flyer will work just fine.

2. Business cards

Take your business cards wherever you go and hand them out.

3. Ads and listings

Make sure you are listed in all relevant directories like the yellow pages, community guides, parenting daycare magazines, daycare directories, etc. If your budget allows, you should also consider placing ads in those guides and directories, as well as in local newspapers.

4. Banners

Nothing grabs more attention than a banner. She prints a bright and colorful banner and hangs it at the entrance of her nursery. It will guarantee to attract the attention of passers-by. Don’t try to recreate your entire brochure or flyer in the banner. Keep it simple and short. Include basic information such as your center logo/name, your contact number and website, if you have one. Make sure the text is readable from a distance.

6. Website

Acquire a new skill. Learn to create your own website. A simple, professionally designed website with a few photos of your facility will work well. And don’t forget a map.

7. Car Decals and Bumper Stickers

If budget allows, print car decals and bumper stickers to give to family, friends, and clients. It’s free advertising on the move.

8. Posters

Print posters and display them wherever possible. Post them on bulletin boards in shopping malls, restaurants, or supermarkets. Pass them out to your clients, family and friends and have them place them in their offices.

9. Open houses

There is nothing better than a preview of an experience. When a company wants you to sign up for their expensive conference, they’ll usually preview the event so you can get an idea of what you’ll experience if you sign up. Similarly, open houses are a great marketing tool that allow parents to have a hands-on experience at your facility.

It is not necessary to run all of the above suggestions at once. Watch them throughout the year. It will be much easier on your budget.

Happy trading!
