Our continuing love affair with the moon

“How vast and ancient
this dragon must be, what
it takes a month to blink!”
-Nicholas Kaa Walker

It’s good to keep track and know what phase of the moon we’re on. Our behaviors and emotional responses directly correlate to the lunation phases of the Moon. When we coordinate our activities with the lunar energies, we can really maximize their influence. And we can use all the help we can get, right? Plant seeds, ideas, visions in the New Moon. Weed, discard and remove the unnecessary on the Full Moon.

Songs, poems, odes, daydreams. The Moon has been an object of endless worship since the beginning of time. Mysterious and changing, sometimes hidden by clouds or (gasp!) the Earth itself, our satellite, our iridescent child, the Moon floats suspended in the sky, prompting us to dream, wonder, reflect. To make a garden by moonlight, to walk in the woods with the moon shining through foliage or bare branches, every time we get a chance to be embraced by its silvery light, we know we are being touched by the moonlight. hand of the divine feminine and we are blessed. .

The Moon changes signs (constellations) approximately every 2 and a half days. The Moon is in a bad mood; she rules the sign of Cancer. If you know someone who has a strong Cancer influence in their chart (Cancer Sun or Moon, a Cancer ascendant, or many planets, especially the Sun, in the fourth house), you can expect that person to be in a bad mood! As the Moon moves into a sign, the emotional timbre of that sign is amplified. A full moon always brings more activity in the ER, but a full moon in Scorpio will make that activity even more intense!

When you know the sign that the Moon is in your own natal chart, you will be able to understand your own moods and how it is affected by the movement of the moon through the heavens. Let’s take a look at what the energies feel like when the Moon moves through a particular sign:

Moon in Aries: dynamic, impulsive, full of energy, aggressive, risky
Moon in Taurus: pleasure-loving, indulgent, calm, stubborn, greedy
Moon in Gemini: talkative, talkative, social, attractive, communicative
Moon in Cancer: sensitive, moody, nestled, affectionate
Moon in Leo: dramatic, generous, flashy, proud, grandiose, bossy
Moon in Virgo: organized, practical, attention to detail, fussy, critical
Moon in Libra: lover of harmony, open to compromise, desire to be fair and equitable
Moon in Scorpio: intense, passionate, reserved, mysterious, controlling
Moon in Sagittarius: gregarious, philosophical, optimistic, great vision
Moon in Capricorn: executive, can take on challenges, sober, serious, capable
Moon in Aquarius: visionary, humanitarian, innovator, rebellious
Moon in Pisces: dreamy, intuitive, limitless, compassionate

Do you recognize your own emotional nature in any of these descriptions? You could very well have the Moon in that sign in your chart. The more you know about your chart, the better you can navigate the often choppy waters of life on Earth!

Special note: This year there were 2 New Moons in Cancer, one at the beginning of the sign and one at the end. That is VERY significant, as is the fact that these New Moons are SUPERMOONS. A SUPERMOON (this is 2 of 5 this year) occurs when the New or Full Moon is at its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit. We feel the energy of the Moon’s effect on Earth at those times. This will bring stronger tides and heightened feelings everywhere, specifically in the areas ruled by the signs involved.

As you can see, we have a couple of eclipses that occur in July (actually, they often travel in pairs). Eclipses are pivotal moments that trigger the beginning of changes that will become apparent 6 months later. The location of eclipses in relation to your personal chart will show you which areas of your life are most affected by their energy. I have found this to be a very important indicator of where to focus your energy for change and growth.

During a lunar eclipse, the Earth blocks the full Moon, so light from the Sun cannot reach the Moon. We know that the Moon reflects light from the Sun, so during those times when that light is blocked it is like the Moon taking a deep breath and holding it. In those moments magic happens. Changes occur at the level of consciousness. Since this Full Moon is in the sign of Capricorn (Full Moons are always opposite the Sun) and the Sun is in Cancer, the issues of Capricorn and Cancer must be considered. , feminine nurturing energy and Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, is the goal-oriented and competitive archetypal masculine energy. We each have BOTH energies in our personas.

During a solar eclipse, when the Moon is new (both Sun and Moon in the same sign), the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking some of the Sun’s energy. This eclipse will be total in parts of India and China. I saw a total eclipse years ago in Helena, Montana and I tell you, it was worth the trip! The air became very still and there was a strange feeling that something was happening that was much bigger than us little humans! The dogs were doing the low growl-howl, intensifying the primal feeling of our collective vulnerability. Such is the energy of an eclipse.

These eclipses help you identify these energies manifesting on your own chart and how you balance them further. Are you too bossy and domineering in some places (all in the name of trying to get things done) and too emotional and overly careful in others? It’s time for a cosmic tweak! Use these eclipses to connect with your own vulnerability around gender role expectations. The Cancer-Capricorn axis asks us to look at where we are unbalanced in the male-female balance and strive for greater inner balance and union.

So whether you’re sailing down the Moon River or giving a good howl, take a good look at the Moon, our guide to the monthly cycle of our lives.
