Decoupage in Denim

Here’s another idea for creating embellished custom jeans – let us decorate them using decoupage technique! This will undoubtedly give your favorite jeans an exclusive and original touch!

We will need a piece of fabric with a nice motif and an adhesive film. Cut out the motif from the fabric and lay it on the cling film. Iron it with an iron: it should be hot enough and the “humidifier” regime should be turned off. Without removing the protective layer from the adhesive film, carefully cut out the motif. It is necessary to provide some rigidity to the fabric and thus greatly facilitate the cutting process. Once this technique is applied, the cut becomes more precise and regular.

After removing the protective layer of cling film, stick the trimmed item on your custom-made jeans and press the pattern with a hot iron. The next thing to do is fix the edges of our pattern so they don’t fray. The adhesive film also partially fulfills this function; however, to make it even safer, we will have to apply special relief lacquer on all the contours of our decorative motif. Also, after the hairspray dries, it will create a volumetric edge. If you do not want this edge to stand out, choose a lacquer without tone or the color corresponding to the tones of your fabric pattern. And on the contrary, if you want to draw more attention to this volumetric edge, choose the lacquer of contrasting colors.

Made-to-measure jeans can also be decorated using decoupage technique with brightly colored paper decorations combined with micro-pearls. This technology lets your fantasy fly and allows you to create original designer garments that can be perfectly customized and thus adapt to everyone.

Cut out the paper trim you want to see on your jeans and place it on cling film as explained above. Press it with an iron. Remember that your trim needs to be bright to make it look its best on denim. Embellishments placed on denim in dark colors will look a bit faded compared to light blue or white jeans. However, the cling film creates a certain barrier between the denim and the trim, so there is no need to worry about it getting damaged.

Cut the cling film with your ornament, take off the protective layer and stick it to the surface of the denim. Iron it with the “humidifier” mode off. Place a coat of textile finish lacquer only over your trim, trying not to stain it on the jeans around it. To draw more attention to the contours of your ornament, you can decorate it with textile microbeads of the corresponding color.

Microbeads are fixed with special glue because all other types of glue do not guarantee the stability of the decoration during washing. In case you want to cover a large area with microbeads, please use a special adhesive film for microbeads. You can play with contrasting colors to make your ornament even more original. That’s it, your custom embellished jeans in technical decoupage are ready! Hope you enjoyed the process.
