Before the Spanish colonization, the island of Boracay was already an inhabited place. The first people on the island were the Ati tribes. The Spanish colonizers simply called the place “Buracay”. It was back on April 25, 1956 when Boracay was declared an independent place. They had about 1,900 properties on the island, including fruit trees and coconut plantations.

In fact, the number of tourists that keep coming to this wonderful place is increasing day by day. An American movie was filmed on this island, which was directed by the late and famous American film director Robert Burgess Aldrich. The film was titled “Too Late the Hero” which was released in 1970.

Backpackers began flocking to Boracay in the 1980s, which was also the time when Boracay Island became a popular budget destination for both local and foreign vacationers. During the 1990s, the island’s beaches were recognized as one of the best in the world. In the year 2012, Boracay was recognized as the second most amazing beach in the world. It was next to the most amazing, which was the Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
