Sony A9 Camera Review: Full Specs and Price List

This time we have in our hands the Sony A9. It’s one of the newest (and most expensive) additions to the mirrorless camera array. Unlike the smaller A6000 or A5000 cameras, the A9 is as big as a standard DSLR but more capable than it was in a while. The A9 entered Indian shores in July this year with a hefty sticker price of Rs 3,29,990 lakh (body so to speak). Given the details and the portion, a set of spectator group specialty is taken into account, which for this situation are called ‘Experts’. We put a decent amount of energy into the A9, using it with an FE 85mm F1.4 GM lens, which costs Rs 1,29,990. There is a lot to discuss about the camera. So, here is our survey.

Characteristic

The Sony A9 alone has the potential to put other cameras in the same segment to shame. Its performance is one of the best we have seen so far. We used the mirrorless camera for almost two weeks and there was never a dull moment with it. Clicked images are incredibly sharp, even in low light, and color reproduction is near perfect. Before we say anything else about its shutter speed and night shots, we’ll go over its specs. The A9, being a mirrorless camera, supports Sony E-mount lenses.

There’s a 35mm full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor with a 3:2 aspect ratio. The device clicks JPEG and RAW images up to 24MP in different styles such as Standard, Vivid, Light, Deep, Light, Portrait and more. While taking photos in low light, the camera uses its built-in noise reduction function. These are especially used when clicking with shutter speeds greater than 1 second. The ISO sensitivity of the A9 ranges from 50 to 204800 (extended).

There are also various exposure modes such as Auto, Aperture Priority and Shutter Speed Priority which is also present on the most basic DSLR cameras. Other features related to the camera’s exposure control and autofocus lock remain the same as in other cameras. We particularly found the A9’s continuous shooting mode impressive.

The device is one of the few that can capture up to 20 frames in a second. This is extremely useful when shooting fast-paced objects. We tested it on moving cars and the anti-distortion shutter made it feel like we were taking a still photo. Complementing this is autofocus and auto exposure lock that’s quick to recognize subjects and stick to them while shooting video or moving camera angles. You can set the AF tracking sensitivity level.

The A9 has a total of 693 PDAF points, enough to click sharp images.
