The Life of a Surf Legend – Tim Curran

Tim Curran is one of the most recognized and popular professional surfers in the world, whose successful career has taken him around the world. Wanting to give something back to the sport that has taken over her life, she recently became a spokesperson for the ‘Surfrider Foundation’.

The ‘Surfrider Foundation’ is a non-profit environmental organization that strives to preserve the oceans, waves and beaches, and promotes the right of free, free and low-impact access to the world’s waves and beaches for all people through local chapters both in the United States and Europe. The organization was started in Malibu, California in 1984 by a small group of surfers protesting threats to their local surf spot at Malibu Point. Today, there are more than 60,000 members and 64 chapters, with affiliations in Japan, Australia, Europe, and Brazil.

The organization has a list of important achievements; for example, winning the second largest clean water law lawsuit in US history, which was filed against two pulp mills in Humboldt County that were charged with more than 40,000 violations of the law. They also won a lawsuit against Chevron Oil Company in El Segundo, California, marking the first time that a government agency, department or office at any government level has recognized the importance of a breaking wave as a natural resource worthy of protection.

Tim Curran started surfing at a very young age. He was born in the San Fernando Valley, but spent much of his childhood in Temecula County, south of Riverside, which is about an hour from the ocean. His father recognized that Tim had a talent that needed nurturing, so every weekend he would take his son away from Temecula stores, malls and hotels to the coast where he could surf.

At the age of eleven he got his first sponsorship contract with ‘McCrystal Surfboards’ and at sixteen he was already competing as a professional surfer. At 18, he had been inducted into the Surfer Poll by the People’s Choice as the World’s “Most Favorite Surfer”; He continued to climb the professional rankings, ranking at the top of some of the biggest surfing events in the world. Curran is considered a pioneer of the aerial surf revolution and is known for his great recorded aerial maneuvers.

Curran has maintained a strong religious faith throughout his life and attributes his successful career to his beliefs. Curran’s success in the surfing world has also allowed him to make a name for himself in the music industry, and after he took a break from serious surfing competition last year, he indulged in his second love: music. ; on tour with the ‘Foo Fighters’ and recently released his first album “Word of Mouth”.

At the age of 30, there still seems to be a lot to do for Curran, and while maintaining his competitive surfing lifestyle, it will be interesting to see what this energetic American can accomplish next.
