Tipper truck covers, often referred to as fiberglass covers, are not my favorite truck covers. These are the reasons why these are not my favorite tonneans.

Well, there is the matter of the high charge. Carry just about anything that is higher than the sides of the bed and you won’t be able to close the lid. How cool is that? You can’t even carry a lawn mower without leaving the lid open. You can’t even carry a trash can. There is more.

If the cover is indeed made of fiberglass, there is the problem of weight. See that fiberglass is heavy by nature. After all, it is resin on fiberglass. That means it’s heavy to install, heavy to lift, and heavy to transport. Heavy on canvas covers is not very good.

Then there is the problem of appearance. Slanted lids can make for one of the classiest looking truck covers. But the thickness of the material adds to the covers that protrude far above the bed. It shows to the point of distracting. Appearances are subjective, but I don’t like appearance.

Now there is a better solution if you want a tilting barrel. The concealed covers are not fiberglass at all and that makes all the difference. With Undercover, you get a modern polymer construction that results in a total deck weight of just 58 pounds for the entire deck.

Lightweight means it’s easier to transport, but also easy to take off and put back on. That means the authorization issue is much less of a problem. With high load, it is easy to remove the cover. It is not a monument what you see.

Tipper truck covers don’t rank very high on my list, unless you go for the lightweight version. So some of the problems are no longer problems.
