Richard Wright’s novel The Outsider opens with the story of a man, Cross Damon, who continually seems to come up short on life. Throughout “Book One: Terror”, Cross finds himself in various situations that go from bad to worse rather quickly. It is obvious to the reader that these circumstances arise as a result of Cross’s wrongdoing, he is the reason why he is always in so much trouble throughout the first part of the book. He clearly harbors a flaw that continually gets him down. Cross’s fear of being disappointed is his biggest flaw in the first part of Wright’s The Outsider.

When Cross was a child, he watched his mother suffer the consequences of living under the shadow of his father’s infidelity. He hurt her so much that he raised Cross in an environment that led him to believe that being let down or hurt by others was the worst thing that could happen to a person. “Though she loved him, she had tainted her fledgling feelings with a fierce devotion born of her fear of a life that had bewildered and hurt her.” (Wright, 22) This dread or fear of disappointment is all Cross has ever known, it’s the only way he knows to protect himself from a world filled with disappointment.

Cross is so afraid of the pain of disappointment that he often hurts those around him to protect himself. When he was younger he married Gladys and moved in with her. They seemed to have a great life until the day their first child was born. Cross was so terrified of the possibility of becoming truly happy with Gladys that he began sleeping with other women. Being happy with Gladys meant sharing her life with her. That kind of love is the product of giving enough of yourself to another person that you would allow them to completely destroy you if they wanted to but trust them not to. Cross couldn’t do that. He couldn’t take the chance that one day Gladys would let him down. So he did the only thing he knew how to do, he ruined the relationship.

After realizing that there was no way Cross could allow himself to be happy, Wright tells us that “he was now haunted by the idea of finding some way to make her hate him. Her hate would be a way to square their relationship.” to cure her of her love for him, to set her free as well as himself.” (Wright, 71) In the end he comes up with a plan that makes Gladys hate him. Then he sets his sights on Dot, a young woman he meets in a liquor store It seems that he is falling in love with her as he could not with Gladys, “his bond with her deepened as the days went by, because it was with her that, for the first time in his life, he found himself speaking freely, emptying himself out” . from his soul the accursed waters of reflection and melancholic thought”. (Wright, 42) Cross seems to make an innocent mistake when Dot becomes pregnant, but the way he handles the situation suggests that he’s trying to get rid of her, he’s gotten too close. Once again, he’s trying to ruin a relationship because he’s afraid they’ll finally let him down.

Cross feels like he’s been given the perfect chance to be free when a train accident leaves everyone believing he’s dead. “All his life she had been yearning for his personal freedom, and now freedom was knocking on his door, begging him to come out.” (Wright, 107)

TNT will broadcast both NBA games tonight (Detroit/Cleveland at 7:05 ET and San Antonio/Dallas at 9:35 ET), as all series will have completed four games after tonight’s game. The Heat currently lead the Nets 3-1 following a 102-92 victory on Sunday afternoon, while the Clippers and Suns are tied at 2, following LA’s 114-107 win last night.

My free game for Monday is at the Hou Astros over the SF Giants at 8:05 ET. I’m spending tonight in MLB but I’m a 22* in the NBA playoffs as I look to extend my current four-game winning streak in the postseason (I won with the Clippers last night). Regulars know my 22*s are my highest star rated plays and my high level playoff shooting (20 and 22*s plus LEGEND) are 9-3 75% ATS in this year’s postseason.

The Pistons lead their series with the Cavs 2-1 and are favored by six points in Game 4 tonight on a total of 183 1/2. The Mavs are also up 2-1 in their series with the Spurs and are 2 1/2-point favorites tonight on 190 1/2 total.

The home teams got off to a great start in this year’s postseason, winning 30 of the first 39 games played. However, they finished the first round on a 1-5 SU and ATS run and their woes have continued into the second round. Home teams are 8-6 SU and just 5-9 ATS after 14 games in this round. That means home teams have gone 9-11 (6-14 ATS) in the last 20 playoff games.

The ‘overs’ have dominated this second round so far, with 10 of the 14 games exceeding the published total. That continues a trend where nine of the last 10 first-round games have gone over the total, meaning 19 of the last 25 playoff games have gone over. And defense is supposed to win championships?

The famous or infamous “Zig-Zag” theory has been very mixed up during the postseason. He started with an impressive 19-8-2 ATS to start the first round, but finished the round on an eight-match losing streak. However, the “zig-zaggers” have won eight of the first 10 games of the second round, bringing the overall record to 27-18-2 or plus-7.2 units.

What about the Pistons? Losing Game 3 wasn’t much of a surprise, as Detroit has now lost 10 of its last 11 Game 3s on the road. However, what is surprising is the team’s offensive blackout. The Pistons scored 113 points in Game 1, dropped to 97 in Game 2, and reached 77 points in Game 3. The Cavs were able to win Game 3 with a strong fourth.

Cleveland entered the fourth quarter having shot just 17 of 56 (30.4 percent) while scoring 53 points. However, they outscored the Pistons 33-21 in the quarter, going 11 of 15 FG and 9 of 9 FT. James scored 15 points in the quarter and finished with his second triple-double of the playoffs (10-21-10). Detroit should bounce back, but Piston’s backers will have to pay dearly as Detroit is currently a six-point option.

For Cleveland to tie the series, you’d think James would need more help. Hughes is likely to miss again (perhaps not bad news, since he’s only shot 31.8 percent in the postseason) and neither Ilgauskas nor Gooden have played well. Ilgauskas is averaging just 8.8-5.8 in his last five games, while Gooden has scored in double figures just once in seven games (averaging 7.3 PPG) since going 24-16 in Game 2 of the series. of washington.

Is this really the year of the Mavs? Dallas has taken a 2-1 lead in its series with San Antonio and history tells us that in 23 previous playoff series under Duncan, the Spurs have trailed after three games just four times, ultimately losing the series! every time! Duncan has been brilliant, averaging 31.3 PPG and 11.3 RPG (he averaged just 18.3 PPG against Sacramento) but like James, he’ll need help.

Perhaps most surprising has been San Antonio’s inability to stop Dallas from scoring. The Spurs were second to the Grizzlies in PPG allowed this year (88.8 to 88.5), but they allowed Dallas to average 108.5 PPG while reaching the free throw line 93 times in Games 2 and 3. Nowitzki set a franchise record in the playoffs for FT tries (24) and shooting (21) in Game 3. However, he sprained his ankle late in Game 3 and may not be 100 percent tonight.

MLB ratings

Heading into a new week (interleague play coming this weekend!), the Padres own the longest active winning streak in the majors at five straight, with the Tigers and Phillies each having four straight wins. The Padres trailed the Dodgers 5-0 going into the bottom of the ninth on April 30, but rallied to win that game and have won 14 of 16 since. The Phillies also began their comeback the same day, having won 13 of 14.

The Indians own the longest active losing streak at six straight losses and are now just 17-21 after opening the season 6-1. The Cubs are next with four straight losses, but that’s not even half of it! The Cubbies have lost 12 of their last 13 games, getting outscored 75-28 in the process.

I spoke last week about all the high scoring games and it should be noted that only six of the 30 MLB teams have played more ‘unders’ than ‘overs’ in Sunday games. Four of those six teams have played just one more under than over, with only the Rockies (15-21-2) and Tigers (11-23-3) truly “under” teams to date. The list of ‘over’ teams includes Florida (24-9-2), Toronto (23-11-2), Minnesota (23-12-2), Baltimore (23-13-2) and Cleveland (23-13 -2). 2).

The Royals may possess the worst record in MLB at 10-25, but five other teams have been more “money burners” during Sunday’s action. The Royals are minus $857 (at 100 per game), but the five worst teams in MLB are the Indians 17-21 (minus $888), the Marlins 11-24 (minus $928), the Nationals 13-25 ( under -$1,085) and the 11-27 Pirates (under-$1,605). The money leaders are the Tigers 24-13 ($1,170 more) and the Reds 23-15 ($979 more).

Ness Notes is available Monday through Friday at 1:00 ET.

We do it in every part of our lives every day.

We rank our favorite restaurants, our favorite movies, our favorite cars, and even our favorite Super Bowl commercials. We can do it as a top five list or, as David Letterman has made famous, the “Top Ten.”

We are constantly sorting and reviewing; Why should that kill our employees?

You think you don’t do that?

Which employees do you trust to perform difficult or important tasks? Which employees do you talk to the most about the business or how things are really going for you today? You know who these people are even if you haven’t formally thought about it.

Why should you classify your employees?

Simply put, when you make decisions about your business or your group, you need to keep your top people in mind. They are the ones who lift you up; those you can trust to do the right thing when you’re not around.

If you have a limited amount of money for raises, make sure these important people get the lion’s share. They should be the examples that are shining beacons for everyone else.

The goal here is to make the classification of your employees clear from a planning and management perspective. This does not mean that you need to create a formal employee review process.

Creating formal reviews is not recommended unless (a) your company has multiple managers who have very different ways of evaluating their talent or (b) has reached employee levels that are regulated by state or federal equal opportunity commissions in employment or other labor laws. .

In fact, most companies should steer clear of formal reviews unless they are also willing to implement a formalized raise change and compensation structure. That’s because almost all employees in the United States are conditional on receiving a raise after a positive performance review.

When ranking your employees, establish what three or four things are really important to you as a business owner, and then rank your employees based on this criteria. Many owners consider work ethic, loyalty, customer focus, and a positive attitude as their criteria for a top-notch employee.

Once the criteria is established, the owner/manager will review their employees and rank them in order based on the criteria.

Done at different times of the year, employees must move up and down the list.

This “ranking” should not be in writing or, if it is, it should be discarded once you have completed the exercise to minimize any moral or legal issues that may arise from its distribution.

The big key here is that as we head into better economic times, the employees at the top of your list should get the most attention.

They are the ones who, if they left you, would hurt your business. Owners and managers often spend more time with underperforming employees than with their best employees.

It’s common for a manager to say, “My best people know how I feel about them.” Are you sure?

If you ask your best employees, you might be surprised by their answer.

Spend more time on your best and brightest, and you’ll reduce the chance of your best employees leaving you. Be around to listen when they suggest changes to the business, their jobs, or even their compensation.

Dwight Eisenhower once said, “Leadership is the art of getting another person to do something you want because he wants to do it.”

If you really want to lead your business, set your expectations and constantly communicate with your most qualified employees.

Shutter speed, simply put, controls the speed at which the camera lens opens and closes. It works in conjunction with film speed (also known as ISO) and aperture (lens opening size) to properly expose an image. By using the shutter speed priority setting on your camera, you can control movement and capture your moving subject effectively. Let’s look at the various ways to do this.

freezing action

You’re at the Indy 500 watching your favorite racer approach the finish line and you want to capture the car, in full detail, and the look on the driver’s face, just before crossing the finish line! Capturing such a shot on camera is an example of freezing action. Compositions that show frozen action allow us to study a fleeting moment at our own pace, long after it has passed.

In order to freeze action with your camera, you need to set your shutter speed to be very fast. If your ISO is low, say 50 or 100, set your shutter speed to 1/500th of a second, 1/1000th of a second or faster. Then let your camera recommend the aperture; it will most likely force the background to be out of focus at a large aperture. If your ISO is high, say 800, then you’ll be able to set your shutter speed to 1/500th of a second without losing as much detail in the foreground and background (ie you’ll be able to use a smaller aperture to get the proper exposure). Shooting at such fast speeds allows you to get away with not using a tripod, since any camera shake you accidentally make won’t affect such a short exposure. So pick a sunny day and go for it!

implicit move

The classic example of implied motion is those ethereal shots of rapids or waterfalls where the water appears silky as it flows over the rocks, while the plants on either side come into sharp focus as the water passes. Another example is traffic at dusk while the buildings at the intersection remain quiet and in sharp focus. The subject is blurry while the background is sharp: this is what movement implies.

The trick to capturing implied motion is to use a slow shutter speed. ½ second speeds should be plenty for shooting waterfalls or rapids, but be careful to lower your ISO, or shoot at night, and don’t forget your tripod.

Panorama

Her daughter rides her tricycle in a circle around her. He points her lens at her and turns in time with her as she circles him. Break! This is an example of panning, where we create anxious, rushed moments by bringing the moving subject into sharp focus while blurring the background. The best panoramic shots are taken when the subject is looking at you and the eyes are in focus.

To successfully capture a panoramic shot, keep these three rules in mind:

1) Make sure you move parallel to your subject.

2) Choose the appropriate shutter speed: between 1/60 of a second (for fast subjects), 1/30 of a second or even 1/15 of a second (for a slow child, for example)

3) DO NOT use a tripod, you must be free to move

Now you know the secrets to control movement in the movie. Get out there and try your hand at freeze motion, implicit motion, and panning!

Fans love it when their teams are champions. But fan support alone won’t take a mediocre team to championship level. Heart is what a team needs. The heart is what will bring glory to even the average team.

John Elway had a heart. There was never any doubt about that, as he gave it his all to reach the Super Bowl an incredible 5 times. In the ’80s no one said the Broncos had a great all-round team, but they had a good team plus a leader in Heart.

On the other hand, the Dallas Mavericks won 67 games in 2007, an incredible winning percentage of over 80 percent. He was the sixth best of all time in the NBA. But what did they do with it? They lost easily in the first round of the playoffs to the eighth-seeded Golden State Warriors. The first time a top seed has lost in the NBA to the worst seed since the first round went to seven games.

Remember when they extended the first round from 5 to 7 games? One of the reasons was to help ensure that the favored team would win the series even if they had a bad night.

Dallas, however, was never competitive. This wasn’t even 7 games. It was barely 6 games only because of a miraculous comeback in the last minutes of the 5th game.

It was clear that Golden State had a heart and they put their effort into it.

Champions rise to the occasion. That’s what they play for. It’s not the regular season where cheap wins come easy over humble teams. It’s not the regular season where a game is just a game and sometimes the emotional game is missing.

No, players with hearts do their best in the 4th quarter. They make shots in the playoffs. They are leaders who make the players around them better because they play hard and set a high bar and set a great example.

Michael Jordan. Larry Bird. Magic Johnson. All great basketball players, but their greatness and lasting legacy were not the result of regular season victories. Memories of their play come from the playoffs, when they took on the mantle of greatness and showed what it means to play hard and play well. Even when they didn’t win, they had nothing to be ashamed of. They didn’t wither and lost game after game by dozens of points. They came to play and they wanted the ball.

Teams like the 2007 Dallas Mavericks may have good players, but they’re flashes and soon forgotten no matter how many regular-season wins they rack up. Does anyone remember the 2001 Seattle Mariners who won a record 116 games? No. Because they couldn’t finish and soon reverted to mediocrity.

Dallas needs a player with a heart. Not just average desire, but a talent with a burning desire to win at all costs that transcends regular season play. Until that does not happen there will be no championship.

Other teams take note. Heart can be more important than flashy stats in getting a team to a championship level. What finally brought perennial glory to the Philadelphia Phillies? An aged Pete Rose. Not because he was hitting 60 home runs, but because he had the heart of a champion, and that intangible factor brought out the best in his teammates.

So all you fans out there, support your favorite team and be sure to root for those with a heart. Keeping those players is what will ultimately bring you a championship.

Monday Night Football, now on ESPN, is an American institution. Many of the greatest games in history have been featured on Monday Night Football over the years. ABC’s sister cable sports station ESPN now airs Monday Night Football, and while the channel is different, the game is still the highlight of the week in football.

What is seduction?

* Seduction is the art of using sexual attraction to achieve a goal.

* The goal is not always sexual intimacy. For example, television commercials use young and attractive models to promote a sexy and modern image of their products and services. The sexy part motivates you to buy their products.

* On the other hand, there is cruising or flirting, in which the seducer’s objective is consumed in a one-night stand.

* More commonly, the goal of seduction is to conquer a soul mate. Here, physical attraction is key to making that all-important first impression. But beyond that, a lasting relationship can only arise from mutual and personal chemistry interests.

* The least common form of seduction is spying. Here, bribery and blackmail are the most common methods to obtain intelligence, which is the ultimate goal. But seduction for purposes of industrial espionage, as opposed to state sponsored, had a long and healthy run in this country until the 1996 Economic Espionage Act was enacted.

How is one seduced?

* To be seductive, you must first look seductive. Appearance counts for that first impression, and you want your dream date to think, “Wow!” before you open your mouth.

* For most young adults, the key to good looks is exercise, diet, proper grooming, and a wardrobe that matches their surroundings. Most of the time this is common sense. That slim-fitting, ribbed sweater looks great at a ski resort, but you might think twice about taking it on a tropical cruise. For men, jeans and a flannel shirt are perfect for a hiking trip, but aren’t appropriate for anywhere the ladies dress up. If girls go through all that trouble to look good, you have to show some effort as well.

* Let’s say you have all the classic features of home life… You have high cheekbones, haggard eyes, a receding chin, a hooked nose, and bushy eyebrows. But let’s also assume that you are disciplined. His weight is under control and he graduated at the top of his class from college. How do you rate? As a last resort, consider plastic surgery.

* If you have paid around $100 to $200 thousand dollars to finish your higher education, wouldn’t you want to spend maybe $20 thousand for treatment by a top-notch plastic surgeon? This may sound radical, but psychology studies have consistently shown that attractive people are more successful in business and earn more money. You may find this superficial, but it’s a fact, and it gives you a rock-solid rationalization beyond the simple vanity of going under the knife.

* I REPEAT; most young adults do not need to resort to surgery. All they need is a proper diet, good grooming, and good exercise.

What makes seduction successful?

* The seduction artist knows that human beings have many needs. We all have common needs like security, comfort, social acceptance and that important soul mate.

* We also have individual needs, which can be intellectual, emotional, or task-oriented. This even includes one or more of the seven deadly sins! Individual needs include preferences, which are not absolute. For example, you may prefer a partner who is tall… short… thin… buxom… blonde… brunette… loaded… On the other hand, some individual needs are absolute and functional. as filters to rule out any possible suitors who are not on the list. Therefore, an observant Orthodox Jew will only date another Orthodox Jew. Of course, the biggest filter of all is the fact that the potential dream date is dating someone else.

* Finally, we have intimate needs. You can’t put a name to many of them, because they reside in the emotional centers of our brains, a place Freud called the subconscious mind. However, intimate needs are very powerful. They can flash green lights of excitement and red lights of caution in our conscious mind, and it all depends on the complex interplay of thought and circumstances at the time. Intimate needs manifest with brute force in our conscious mind and determine whether we are straight or gay, even how we like to be held. They can also involve obsessions and fetishes, among other things.

* The most important thing to remember is that successful seduction requires meeting as many common, individual, and intimate needs as possible for your intended partner. This is something you can’t fake or talk about.

* Social interaction is spontaneous, so sometimes it’s best to sit down and make objective observations of the person of interest. Write his findings as if you were writing a field study for a naturalist’s journal. You don’t need much formal training here. Simply state in plain language what the person is wearing. Pay attention to your personal cleanliness. Take into account the style of clothing and the way you sit. Look at all the peculiar gestures. We all have them. How does your head turn? Do you open your fingers when looking at your nails? Look for any special jewelry. Anything that is worn for consecutive days is special to that person and deserves a compliment when you decide to break the ice. A professional manicure tells you that a woman takes special care of her appearance, but it could also mean that she likes to be pampered.

* Why are you doing this? This is called research, and you can take it as far as you want. But please don’t stalk and don’t invade that person’s privacy. In other words, it’s okay to find out through rumors that the man of your dreams loves soccer and chocolate, but it’s not okay to sift through his trash.

How do you break the ice?

* If you are an attractive woman, it is easy. Guys will naturally flirt with you. Of course, that cute boy, whom you’ve been dying to meet, has a severe case of shyness. He thinks like a spy. Set up a small catastrophe like accidentally bumping into him and dropping your belongings. This gives you the chance to become a knight in shining armor. When he helps you pack up your things (and he will), make your move. How advanced do you want to be? That depends on you. Be warm and complementary. Now, if you’ve really done your digging, you know he’s a rabid Yankees fan. Do you think he might be interested in those two tickets you have to the game against the Red Sox?

* When it comes to attracting the opposite sex, men as a group are not as focused as women. In fact, I could say that most men are downright lazy. All around him, women are giving off telltale signals, and guys just don’t have a clue. Think of all the high maintenance her bridesmaid has gone through with her hair, her makeup, her color coordination, and her jewelry. Everything asks to be noticed and commented on. What does the mirror tell you about her? She talks to him every day.

* Men need to stop trying to figure out what a woman is thinking. It’s too complicated, and it won’t help for that alluring first impression anyway. What is more important is the emotional state of the woman, who emits high-definition signals in full view. Unfortunately, many guys have faulty antennas.

* A common sense guideline for a man is that he still has to make the first move, but before making his approach, he has to look his best, and he has to have a confident demeanor that indicates he feels comfortable in your skin. He has to understand the individual needs of the lady and must be prepared to compliment her on the things that mean the most to her. Remember that social acceptance is a common need, and you can assume that he will respond well to compliments. as for her individual needsYou’ll have to do your research. For example, what is your favorite song? Instead of interrogating her with a torrent of questions, you could try mentioning her favorite music, authors, vacation spots, etc. and let her lead the conversation. Listen to each of her words and try to remember not only what she says, but also how she says it. Where are her passions?

* A woman often responds to a warm conversation with flirtatious gestures. She will smile appropriately and make direct eye contact. If she gets bored of her, she will look away and even try to get the attention of a friend of hers to help her get away from you. If she gives you a sidelong glance over her raised shoulder, she’s flirting with you. If she listens to her favorite song, she might give you goosebumps. She say the words “Magnificent song” and she might even hug you.

How do you seal the deal with a kiss?

*Always keep in mind that intimacy is not a gymnastic event. Never rush that first kiss. The hands should reach the hands first, then the forearms, and then the arms. Perhaps your partner wants to feel the power of your broad shoulders. Don’t get in his way with a stupid kiss. And why does a first kiss have to be on the lips? Kissing the side of her head is both intimate and loving. Once your lips meet, keep it smooth. Your tongue is not a battering ram. And please don’t try to get to second base unless his hands direct you there. Just tell her, “You look beautiful.” And you better mean it too!

Product Reviews

1. The World’s Unbeatable Sports Betting System – This is where people usually ask if it is a sports betting champion scam. With a 97% win rate system? But, the 97% win rate is based on bets placed, not games played. It is true that this system is best used by a person with a bankroll to back it up. But, it’s surprisingly easy to use.

The system determines certain low-risk bets, which can be predicted well in advance. That translates to only betting about 40% of the time. Approximately 120 games a year between the two seasons. It uses a form of martingale betting, applied to a series of three games. Based on the premise that the team bet is sure to win one out of three games. Once your team wins one in the series, you are done betting on that series. This system also comes with an NFL system with a 67% win rate and free picks for life – well worth the $197 price!
