Preparing for the bar exam requires you to practice, practice, and practice more, but having the right resources to study is just as important. The focus of this article is on materials that worked for me and recommended to me by ABA law school graduates and colleagues who passed the bar on their first try. After following his advice, I finally passed.

First, you must have the current version of Mini Convisor Review from Barbri. It is the entire black letter law that you need to memorize for the bar exam. The law provided in this guide is complete, thorough, and includes all the elements that you will need to discuss in your essay responses. Use this review guide to create your rule statements and you’ll be on your way to passing the bar exam. You can buy it used or new.

The MBE part requires more practice. You can use any of the MBE question books on the market and there are even online test programs available if it suits you. I suggest Emmanuel’s Strategies and Tactics for the MBE. Answer as many practice questions as you can. You will need to learn from your mistakes and really notice the patterns in the questions in order to answer all 200 questions within the time limit. Then the night before your MBE exam, just review your notes created from the answers you missed during practice.

To pass the bar exam, you need to practice. I recommend writing practice essays under timed conditions. Also, it is extremely helpful to have someone else review your answers and provide objective feedback. I have taken several bar exam review courses and all but one inflated my practice essay scores too much, leading me to believe that I was performing better in practice than on the bar exam. When I finally found Bar Graders on the web and took over 40 practice essays, my exam score improved significantly. These are students who passed the bar exam and I don’t want anyone else to rate my practice essays. Without a doubt, they should be your only bar review course.

Finally, a word about the performance test. Try a strategy that allows you to work efficiently on the performance test. There are many performance test strategies that will allow you to prepare a grid outline of the problems that match the law and work from that grid to write or write your answer. Forget those rainbow chart, chart and marker approaches because they don’t work and waste your precious time. Of course, many of the bar review courses include performance test materials, so you may not need to purchase additional materials. However, if you are wondering what else is available and what has worked for other examinees, then additional materials are worth searching for. I wish you the best in your exam preparation and career.

We’ve come a long way and expect much more than the old cellophane-wrapped sandwich from the 1950s and ’60s, along with stale coffee, from the basic fare of stews, beans, and cookies. Ethnic cuisines and made-to-order hot foods are now commonplace for on-the-go office workers, and we’re willing to pay a high price for convenience.

In the 1950s, mobile canteens served US Army troops on bases and maneuvers, but they were little more than regulation food. Americans are expecting much more, and creative providers are glad to answer the call. From the first ice cream trucks to the hot dog vendors with their Vienna Beef umbrellas, thousands are pouring out of offices, factories and stores, heading to that truck on the street where they know what they will find and don’t mind queuing. that. Who needs stale food from vending machines or fast food burgers when we can get fresh falafel packaged in pita bread, a plate of nachos, or authentic fish and chips wrapped in newspaper? What has evolved from the “roach trainer” of the past to a place that launched the careers of many executive chefs, food trucks now even cater to special events, college campuses, conferences, and weddings.

Let’s take a look at the hottest and latest deals on these meals on wheels across the country. Most of these truck operators also have restaurants in various locations, and many are chefs and culinary school graduates:

The Grilled Cheeserie: From Basic to Designer Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Nashville

The Taco Truck: a variety of tacos and toppings, as well as burritos, Hoboken, NJ

Fukuburger Truck – Real Last Name of Japanese Owner, Burgers Feature Unusual Asian Dressings and Sauces, Las Vegas

Mac Mart Truck: Take Mac and Cheese to a New Level with Creative Ingredients, Philadelphia

Luke’s Lobster: Lobster, Crab, and Shrimp Rolls for around $ 17 (clearly not for those on a budget) New York City

The Cow and Curd: Fried and Battered Cheese Cottage Cheese with Sauces, Philadelphia

Kogi BBQ – creative and diverse Korean cuisine, Los Angeles

Ms. Cheezious: More Designer Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, One of America’s Favorite Comfort Foods, Miami

Cinnamon Snail – Vegan food for the healthiest, meat-eaters without a snail in sight (figure) NYC

Oink and Moo BBQ: Award-Winning Pork and Beef Barbecue with All the Trimmings, New Jersey

If you venture into ethnic neighborhoods, such as a big city Chinatown, you will obviously find a preponderance of your native cuisines on the streets, but in general, these are the most common menu items across the country:

Grill

Burgers

Hot dogs

Coffee and coffee drinks

Healthy smoothies / drinks and juices

Grilled cheese sandwiches for adults

Sliders

Cupcakes and desserts

Street tacos and burritos

Sushi

Lobster rolls

Mediterranean Menus / Gyros

Crepes with special toppings

Vietnamese Banh Mi Sandwiches

Pizza

Ice cream and ice cream

Shaved ice / Italian ice

In the US, food trucks are a $ 1.2 billion industry. Despite obvious challenges like a lack of hot running water, strict regulations, licenses, and health laws, food trucks play an important role in our society and provide a vital service to thousands of workers around the world. Although the pulled cars may just be nostalgic, the concept lives on. Food trucks. When you can’t wait to eat.

Most dogs are known to eat until all their food is gone. This is a survival instinct, but also a bad habit that is difficult to control. Given that an estimated 50% of all dogs are overweight or even obese, how can you identify weight issues with your dog and ensure that your pet is at a healthy weight?

Since dogs come in a variety of shapes and sizes based on breed and other factors, it can be difficult to tell if your dog is at a healthy weight. Most of the resources used to determine a dog’s weight are based solely on breed and can vary widely. For example, the average weight range for an adult Labrador Retriever is 55 to 80 pounds. We know that labs over 80 pounds are considered overweight, but what if your dog is a mixed breed? For pet owners who have mixed breed dogs, or have or are adopted rescue dogs and may not even know what the breed is, how can you identify if your dog is at a healthy weight?

One technique veterinarians use to identify weight problems in dogs is the body condition score, or BCS. Rather than using dog breeds as a guide to a healthy weight, BCS uses visual observations to assess a dog’s body condition and determine whether he is underweight, overweight, or at an ideal weight.

Checking your pet’s BCS is something that most pet owners can do at home on a regular basis to monitor the health of their dog’s weight. Finding a dog’s body condition score is based on how easy it is to feel your dog’s ribs, the size of the animal’s waist and abdomen, the amount of excess fat under its skin, and the amount of muscle mass present in the dog. An overweight dog will have a visibly flabby stomach, no visible waist, hard-to-feel ribs, and a flat, broad back. In contrast, underweight dogs have ribs, spine, and other skeletal features that are visible from a distance.

Like their human counterparts use BMI to accurately determine weight, dogs with a higher BCS tend to be overweight, while dogs with a lower BCS are underweight and often undernourished.

If you determine that your dog is underweight, you will need to increase and control his eating habits. For many underweight dogs, their owners are less likely to not give them enough food, as the dog is particularly fussy about food. If this is the case, it is essential to find a type of dog food that they like to eat and to control their eating habits. For overweight dogs, the best solution is to slowly decrease their food intake and increase their physical activity. Don’t abruptly cut your dog’s meals in half, gradually reduce his food intake over time.

You can use these techniques to find your dog’s BCS and identify weight problems early on, however if eating problems persist or you think your dog may have another health condition, it is always a good idea to take your dog. to your local vet.

So, you have served our country and you want to buy a house. The Department of Veterans Affairs home loans, known as VA loans (VAHL) for short, were created to help veterans and their families achieve the dream of homeownership. The program has benefited more than 18 million veterans and dependents. VAHLs, which are available to certain veterans, active duty military personnel, and reservists, offer many benefits, but there are also some drawbacks.

The advantages

One of the main benefits of VAHL is that they do not require a down payment. Additionally, there are limitations on closing costs, origination fees, and appraisal fees. Another great advantage of VAHL is that there is no private mortgage insurance. The VA also prohibits lenders from requiring private mortgage insurance, as they put collateral on the loan. Not having to pay for private mortgage insurance can save borrowers tens of thousands of dollars. Generally speaking, VAHLs are a more affordable alternative to conventional home loans.

Applying for a VAHL is a lot like applying for any conventional home loan, with the only difference that you must also obtain a certificate of eligibility from the VA. The VAHL process takes two to six weeks, which is roughly the same time as the conventional loan process. Almost any lender that offers conventional loans or FHA loans also handles VA loans, so finding a lender to help you is not difficult.

The disadvantages

Despite the many benefits that VAHL offers, there are also some drawbacks. One downside to VA loans is that the maximum guaranteed loan amount is $ 240,000. While this could buy you a decent home in most parts of the country, in California’s high-priced markets, it may not be enough. Also, not all vets are eligible for a $ 240,000 loan. The actual loan amount varies based on the borrower’s income, assets, credit history, and debt.

In some respects, VA loans are not that different from conventional mortgages. For example, VAHL is no easier to qualify for than conventional home loans. If you have low income or bad credit, don’t be approved by a VAHL. Also, it is a common misconception that VAHLs have better interest rates than conventional home loans. The reality is that VAHL interest rates are in line with those of conventional home loans. The main advantage of VAHL is the fact that you do not have to make a down payment.

A one-time financing fee is also charged for VAHLs. Congress has applied this rate to VA loans since 1982. The rate ranges from 1 1/4 percent to 3 percent, depending on several factors, such as veteran’s service and whether it is a first loan or a subsequent loan. However, this fee can be reduced if you make a down payment of at least 5 percent. For VA refinance loans, the rate can range from 1/2 percent to 3 percent. Many buyers finance the fee along with their home, but doing so can be quite expensive in the long run, running into tens of thousands of dollars over the entire term of the loan.

Ultimately, the choice between a VAHL and a conventional loan will depend on your individual circumstances. For most veterans and service members, VAHLs are a great deal, but in some cases, opting for a conventional home loan or an FHA loan may be a better option.

The PlayStation 4 launched with a 500 gigabyte hard drive. How adorable! They think 500 gigabytes is enough data! Hi Sony! This is not 2008. 500 concerts are not enough. Not when your games have mandatory installations. Not when your games are 40 to 50 gigs a piece. You’re juggling the data for us. That’s fine with smartphones, where apps can be removed and reinstalled in 30 seconds. Not cool when your games are absolutely massive and can take a couple HOURS to install. Why wouldn’t you send with at least a terabyte? It’s ridiculous! You can shut up too, Microsoft. Shipped with the same size hard drive! Not only that, but at least Sony ships with the average hard drive of a normal laptop. With your console, you must purchase a proprietary unit. So let me say this with all the professionalism I can muster: Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Anyway, there is an easy solution to this problem. That is just to replace the hard drive yourself. Whoa calm down, don’t cry. My God, you’re crying. It is not so difficult. In fact, it is quite easy. Are you not crying anymore? It’s okay. Please keep your composure, that was awkward for both of us. Great, now you’re crying again. Let’s move on …

PLEASE NOTE: I do not believe this will void your warranty, however it is in your best interest to contact Sony to make sure. I am not responsible for any damage or voided warranty that may occur as a result of a hard drive replacement. Proceed with your own caution!

The first step is to gather the materials! So you will need a new hard drive first. I used a Seagate terabyte hybrid drive. Make sure the drive is 2.5 inches; otherwise it won’t fit on PS4. You can also use a solid state drive. That being said, I don’t think you’ll get a very significant speed boost. Also, solid state storage has traditionally been much more expensive than the traditional disk hard drive. Or you can get a traditional hard drive with a ton of storage. The reason I chose a hybrid drive is that you get most of the benefits of the solid state drive combined with the cheaper mass storage of a traditional tray-based hard drive.

In the photo: Seagate Hybrid Drive

You will also need a computer on hand. Ugh, I know. I am asking you a lot. Using that computer, navigate to the Sony site. Find the latest firmware. Make sure you get the As of the publication date of this article, the firmware is 3.15. You will also need a gigabyte USB stick, to put the downloaded firmware, as well as if you plan to back up game and save data. Make sure it is formatted in FAT32. Right-click the flash drive, click format, and make sure FAT32 is selected. You will need a PS4 controller and a USB cable. Lastly, get yourself a useful and stylish screwdriver!

If you plan to backup your save files, connect the USB drive to the PS4, navigate to the settings menu. In the setup menu, find the “Application Saved Data Management” menu. Find a backup and restore, and follow the instructions on the screen.

Next, let’s get dirty and start disassembling the PS4. The first thing to do is make sure the PS4 is turned off. Unplug it from the wall, just in case. Next, what you need to do is remove the shiny plastic piece from the PlayStation. It will require a bit of force, so don’t be afraid to use a little. It should slide off relatively easily. You should see the hard drive inside its box. There will be a fairly large screw with the PlayStation icons of the square, the circle, the x, and the triangle. Remove that screw with your Phillips head screwdriver. Take the cage out of the PS4. Good work so far!

Now examine the hard drive cage, note the orientation of the hard drive, and see the four screws that secure the hard drive to the cage. Unscrew these to remove your old hard drive. Make sure the rubber pieces stay in place. Place the new hard drive in the same position as the old one and screw it into place with the 4 screws you just removed. Slide the cart with the connected hard drive back into the box inside the PS4. Go ahead and slide the glossy black plastic piece back onto the PlayStation 4 and close it again.

So first things first, let’s get your new USB stick ready! Connect your USB stick to your computer. Find your USB stick on your computer. It can be found in the “This PC” folder if you are on Windows 8 or higher or “My Computer” if you are on Windows 7 or lower. Once you do that, on the USB stick create a folder called “PS4” and then within that folder create another folder called “UPDATE”, and once you do, paste the PS4UPDATE.PUP file into that folder. Once you’re done, safely unplug your USB stick and plug it into the PlayStation.

Navigate to number 7

Reconnect the PS4 to the wall. Connect your PS4 controller to the console. Locate the power button on the front of the console and hold it down for about 7-10 seconds. Using your controller, navigate to “Initialize PS4 (reinstall system software)”. Now, let the PS4 do its thing and it should work. Once you do, it should take you to the initial setup screen, where you can re-enter all of your account information, enter the date and time again, and connect to the internet.

The last thing you need to do is go back to the settings menu and go back to where you backed up all your save files. Now you need to do the opposite and restore the apps that you backed up. Once you do, go back to the PlayStation Store and download all of your games again. Your PS4 should now be in a similar state to what it was when it started.

That’s! Congratulations! You have a storage solution from this decade! I’m proud of you. Oh God, you are crying again. Yes, I know this is important. You are an adult now! I’m just going …

The fifth week of college football revealed the 6 luckiest teams in the nation: Missouri, Texas Tech, Brigham Young (BYU), Kansas, Boise State and Vanderbilt. It was the 6 teams from the AP Top 25 Poll that had a bye week, saving them from possible defeat.

The other 19 Top 25 teams did not fare as well in Week 5 as only 10 of the 19 won (a meager 53%) while 9 more, including 3 of the top 4 teams, lost.

Among the 9 classified teams that lost, 6 committed the unforgivable sin of losing to unrated teams, an absolute no-no if you want to be in the quest for the national title. You can say goodbye to the national title hopes of Southern California, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Clemson, Illinois and Texas Christian (TCU).

The biggest loser was the University of Southern California (USC, University of Shoulda Coulda), which took first place in the ranking, which traveled to the Corvallis (OR) lair of the Oregon State Beavers. The Beavers, a 1-2 unrated team that had already lost road games at Stanford and Penn State, decided to take out their nastiness on the Trojans, dominating USC 21-0 in the first half and holding on to a 27-21 victory. .

USC should have known better, as the Trojans were upset by the Beavers 33-31 during their last trip to Corvallis two years ago. That loss ended Southern Cal’s 38-game winning streak in the regular season.

Fourth-ranked Florida hosted Mississippi unranked and quickly lost 31-30 with a lousy defense and star quarterback Tim Tebow, winner of last year’s Heisman Trophy, had a horrible day. Tebow was sacked 3 times for holding the ball too long, knocked down 4 receivers deep, lost a fumble that became an Ole Miss touchdown and failed to convert on a run attempt with a critical fourth down and 2 feet for the finish at the Ole Miss 32-yard line with 40 seconds left.

Florida won the first half 17-7 but lost the second half 24-13. It is a loss that coach Urban Meyer and his players will not soon forget, nor should they forget.

The No. 9 Wisconsin led by 19 and was ahead of Michigan unranked, but allowed the Wolverines to return to the game by giving up 20 points in the fourth quarter, allowing Michigan to enjoy its biggest home comeback in history and gave new coach Rich “I’m not hooked on West Virginia” Rodriguez his first win at Michigan, 27-25.

The No. 16 Wake Forest saw the unrated Navy 17 points at their home field and never came back while trailing 24-17.

No. 20 Clemson led unrated Maryland 17-6 at the half, but failed to score in the second half while trailing at home, 20-17. Here’s a news flash: Maryland is apparently much better than Clemson this year.

No. 23 East Carolina hosted the unranked Houston and bit the dust, 41-24. East Carolina’s early-season wins over Virginia Tech and West Virginia look less impressive each week.

The other 3 classified teams that lost at least lost to qualified opponents. No. 3 Georgia hosted No. 8 Alabama and was dominated by Crimson Tide 41-30 in a game that wasn’t as close as their score. No. 22 Illinois traveled to No. 12 Penn State and made the Nittany Lions look good in Happy Valley when the Illini fell, 38-24. No. 24 Texas Christian (TCU) traveled to No. 2 Oklahoma and found out why he doesn’t want to play the Sooners at home, losing 35-10.

The Georgia Bulldogs just took a beating, and at home no less. Georgia ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll and will now plummet in the rankings. Illinois, Clemson and East Carolina should all be kicked out of the Top 25 this week.

Seven other qualified teams won, some impressively, some not. They included:

No. 5 LSU at home 34-24 over 1-4 Mississippi State (not impressive), No. 7 Texas at home 52-10 over Arkansas (impressive), No. 13 South Florida on Highway 41-10 over North Carolina State (impressive), No. 14 Ohio State at home 34-21 over Minnesota (Gophers came undefeated), No. 15 Auburn at home 14-12 over Tennessee (seriously, not impressive), No. 17 Utah at home 37- 21 over 1-AA Weber State (beating a 1-AA team isn’t impressive), and No. 25 Fresno State on Hwy 36-31 over UCLA (hardly impressive, given the current state of UCLA football).

Other game results that struck a chord with me were:

Seeing the recent great Hawaii Warrior tradition of winning games is now going through tough times. Hawaii dusted off 1-AA Weber, but lost to Florida, Oregon State and San Jose State to open the season. June Jones, who built a 75-41 record in 9 seasons in Hawaii, ran the show to take over the head coaching job at Southern Methodist University this year.

Michigan State is now 4-1 after beating Indiana 42-29 on the road, but can the Spartans continue to win against Iowa and Northwestern and host Ohio State with a 6-1 start? Has coach Mark Dantonio been able to build a different mindset at Michigan State, or will the Spartans double down once more when they play better competition?

Question: When was the last time the Tennessee Volunteers started a season 1-3? Answer: 14 years ago.

How bad could North Texas be? Rice is rarely or never good, and the Owls defeated their North Texas state rival 77-20. That was also the score at the end of the third quarter. North Texas must be really bad. North Texas has played the fifth toughest schedule in the country so far, but Jeff Sagarin also has them ranked 152 out of 119 1-A teams.

Washington’s two main institutions, Washington and Washington State, are terrible this year. Washington has lost its first 4 games, and Huskies star quarterback Jake Locker broke the thumb on his throwing hand when he lost to Stanford on Saturday, 35-28. Things are not going well in Husky land. Fourth-year coach Ty Willingham could move out soon.

Things are even worse in Washington state. The Cougars are 0-5, having lost 39-13, 66-3, 45-17, 48-9 and 63-14. Freshman coach Paul Wulff will receive a temporary pass, but it’s possible that when Washington state hosts its state rival Washington on Nov. 22, the Cougars could be 0-11 and the Huskies 0-10. .

Texas-El Paso (UTEP) coach Mike Price finally scored his first win this season by hosting and defeating the University of Central Florida, 58-13. Both teams are now 1-3.

The beauty of college football is the unexpected, the excitement of thousands of fans arriving on the field after their Oregon State Beavers defeated No. 1 ranked Southern Cal, the inexorable attrition of undefeated teams facing each other during conference play. and the unknown players who advertise themselves as the stars of tomorrow in today’s games.

Welcome to the sixth week of college football, when Wisconsin hosts Ohio State, South Florida hosts Pittsburgh, Auburn travels to Vanderbilt, Utah hosts Oregon State, Michigan State hosts Iowa, Southern Cal hosts Oregon, and Missouri travels to Nebraska.

I grew up in the 1980s. That was the era of the big labels, the big tours, and the great hairstyle! A lot of money was made. Bands of the 60s and early 70s talked about how they screwed up but that these 80s bands were winning it. Go back and watch the Billy Joel or John Fogarty episodes of “Behind the Music.” Bands were getting screwed from left to right by everyone, including promoters, managers, and record labels. The attitude among the ruling elite of the music industry was: “These are hippies. Keep them high and make sure they have a lot of groupies and they’ll be happy. They don’t know how to handle money. So we’ll take care of that for them.” . This is why many artists of the late 60s and early 70s ended up penniless once the ringing in everyone’s ears had faded.

Fortunately, in the late 1970s, things were changing and in the 1980s with the arrival of MTV, smarter artists, and a legacy of horror stories from a decade before the musical artist ruled the planet. The artists in that area were some of the most influential people in the world and some of the most financially successful. Some of the artists of the 1970s and 1960s also enjoyed major comebacks and financial success during that period. The image of the musical artist. Exactly the opposite of today.

So what the hell happened?

Gene Simmons and many others would like to blame grunge for the current situation. In the early 1990s, under rock music suffered a stir. From an artistic point of view, it seems to have been necessary. Grunge was something of a reset button, and while some artists in that movement were very low-key in their performances, bands like Rage Against the Machine had crowds gathered in mosh pits. It wasn’t all dark stages, depression, and shoe looks. Keep in mind that whenever there has been a major change in the world, there are always several drivers. For example, the Vietnam War, the Kennedy assassination, psychedelic drug experimentation, and Watergate entered the pot that created the hippy movement. It was not just a factor. With that in mind, let’s go back to the “glory days” of the late 1970s and 1980s.

In the 80s it was very expensive to record an album, master it, make a video and promote it. Record labels would spend thousands before the song or album was released and never knowing what kind of return on investment to expect. Why was it so expensive? In reality, it takes a village for a band to be recorded, videotaped and promoted. Many of you reading this now have learned it the hard way. We’ll get back to that in a minute. Albums like Purple Rain and Born in the USA had dozens of people making sure that everything was done and that it was done right. This was not yet a guarantee of financial success, but the records were really well done. The artist concentrated on writing good music. The band concentrated on playing that music perfectly live and in the studio. The video director and his team gave the video their full attention and the people at the label worked hard to get the record and the video to play and support (pay for) the tour. He was a good model. Quite expensive, but it worked, and it gave many artists of that time a lot of financial and social capital. Then someone had a “better” idea …

Crybaby Winy Complaining …

So we have this well-oiled machine, but still some people were not happy. Many artists felt that the big labels controlled the business. Big evil corporations crushed real artists. Many shouted “It’s not fair!” That was his right to do it. The war lasted about 10 to 15 years and when the smoke cleared. The tag system was dead. The independent artists had won. The music business was now completely “democratic”. We wanted a “fair” system … and guess what? We got our wish. The business is completely democratic. You can burn a great sounding disc at home. There are mastering services that will master your record very well for a very low price or you can even do it yourself. Technology also makes video creation very inexpensive and fast, and there are literally HUNDREDS of targeted marketing services at the freelance musician’s price. The Internet allows you to promote yourself all day and night for practically free. Now everyone can be a rock star!

Where are all these rock stars ???

With all this technology and free promotion, why isn’t EVERYONE a rock star? If you’re a musician reading this, you’ve probably noticed that while all of this democracy sounds good … I mean that democracy HAS to be good, right? Why am I not having the success that I feel I should or even feel that I deserve? Some 20 years ago something disturbing began to happen. You would buy a CD of your favorite artist only to find that the only good song was the one you heard on the radio. This is REALLY what happened to the music business. The drive to do more, spend less, and get that ROI faster leads to albums being produced with maybe good song, rather than great worthwhile material. Fans began to become skeptical. I’m not making it up. This became a big topic in the music press in the late 90s and early 2000s. Bands like Hootie and Blowfish would put out an album full of great material. They sold millions and in an effort to duplicate that success they rushed to make another record. The second album sank. This happened with many artists of that time. You can’t pull a hook and fool your customers. You will lose EVERY TIME!

Album sales were falling. Internet downloads were increasing. People thought … “Hey, your last album was pretty weak. Why should I spend $ 14.99 on your CD and be disappointed when I can get it for free on the web?” I’ll deviate here for a minute. Did you find a price of $ 14.99 for a fairly high CD in the last sentence? Actually, that was a bargain price for a CD at the time. Many CDs were selling for $ 17.99 and some for as much as $ 19.99. It’s hard to imagine people these days spending that much money on a CD, if they would buy one at all. That’s how bad things are. The combination of weaker material, customer disappointment, internet download, money depletion, and more options for people to spend their entertainment dollar on non-music related things is what got us where we are today.

Democracy in action!

So … fast forward and this is 2014. The business is very segmented. Most of the music played on the radio doesn’t translate well live unless you are the original artist. So even the cover bands are struggling. Hip-hop and country have surpassed the success of rock many times over. Now that everything is democratic, the artist has too much on her plate. You need to write, record, produce, mix, and master your own album. book your own shows, do your own promotion, shoot your own video, and bring your own gear. Most record labels are just those “labels.” They are just the business structure that the artist herself must create. There is a lot of freedom these days, but with freedom comes responsibility. This is why not everyone is an indie sensation. Very few can maintain this work ethic. She’s a bitch doing it all yourself. Remember that you STILL need to keep the lights on and feed. Many people are excited to see how open the business really is. It is wide open. There’s a lot of really unique, interesting, fun, catchy, and downright great music. Many artists who couldn’t find a platform even 5 years ago are on tour and make a living from it. But they broke their asses to get there. They formed joint ventures with other artists and companies. They learned how to outsource much of their promotional costs. They barter. They find a way. They have learned that a village is really needed.
