In the kitchen where she had gone to get some fried rice to feed her five children, the husband-turned-monster ambushed her with a single punch to the back of the head.

‘Please don’t hit me,’ the wife begged, ‘and what did I do to you that you hit me so hard and so many times?’

Angry both at her request for an explanation and at her plea for mercy, the monster again struck the woman in the left eye and nose. He aimed for her teeth and hit her on the top of her lip.

Red blood ran from the woman’s nose and mouth and splattered all over the cement floor, along the edge of the kitchen cupboard. She was missing two teeth behind her upper lip.

Apart from protecting her face with her elbows and arms, she was defenseless against the monster’s cruelty.

With the back of her right hand, the woman began to wipe the blood dripping from her nose. In doing so, she exposed her cheek, and ‘the monster’, the woman later said, ‘slapped me with the speed of the devil, seven times on the right cheek and three times on the left’.

The last blow was so forceful that it knocked her off balance and she fell. She quickly got up from the floor and leaned her back against the closed kitchen door. For the sake of her children, she stood her ground until the very end, when she suddenly broke down and started screaming. Her screams attracted the children’s attention.

‘Close the door quickly,’ said the three-year-old, the youngest of the boys.

‘What’s happening?’ asked the seven year old.

‘Dad is hitting and hitting mom again,’ replied the oldest of the five.

Silence fell over the children, an indicator to the mother that they had picked up on the commotion. ‘Oh! My children! Oh, my five hungry children,’ she cried.

On top of the kerosene stove, resting on the low kitchen cabinet, was a razor-thin kitchen knife. The woman thought of grabbing it and applying it to the monster’s throat, but she didn’t dare.

Sensing his vulnerability if his wife mustered enough courage to grab the knife, the monster decided to finish her off. He kicked his shod feet into her abdomen and chest, forcing her to double over, crouching by the kitchen door.

Satisfied that the woman was beaten to the point that she had no mind or physical strength, the monster staggered out of the kitchen, her voice threatening as she walked away, ‘Tell anyone, tell your family, tell your mother, tell to your friends. or your sisters, and not only will I ridicule them, but I will beat you some more and throw you out of my house.

Despite the monster’s warning, this time the woman was brave enough to report the repeated abuse. She had had enough. Once the abuse came to light, the demon went on the run; persecuted, not by authorities since they don’t exist, but by his inner demons.

Police have been called in the past to handcuff an Igbo man who had knocked his wife out with the brutality of his left fist, only to have them laugh and walk away, saying: ‘This is not a police matter.’

A parish priest has been called in to reprimand and sentence to hell an Igbo man who gave his wife two black eyes, only for him to say, ‘You know, when you got married, you got married for better or worse, including death. ‘.

You would be wrong if you thought that the court of law would differ from the police and the priest. A judge, in every case, would laugh out loud, stroke his beard and say: ‘That is a family matter, my young friend; Go home and agree with your husband.

The families of battered women, who should be the last resort of protection, often raise their hands in defeat and demand that the women go back and cook better food for their monsters.

This current culture of ‘looking the other way’ has allowed wife assault to skyrocket among Igbo Nigerians. However, back in the days when Igbo men had guts, my uncle Karl had to send my cousin CKG to tear apart an in-law who had assaulted my niece.

If an Igbo man beats his wife in any civilized country, he goes to jail, where he is beaten by real men; So why wouldn’t a paunchy bastard in Nigeria who beats his wife be thrown in jail, where he at least would learn the true meaning of life?

One could postulate forever why a man, an Igbo man, can hit any woman twenty-two times in the face, on the lips and on the nose, and not even stop to think about his actions when he draws the first drop of blood, or when two teeth fall out of his mouth.

Frustration, some say, is the real reason Igbo Nigerians beat their wives every day: frustrations stemming from poverty, frustrations stemming from personal failures, frustrations from unfulfilled expectations, frustrations from a swollen belly, bad breath, ugly teeth and impotence.

Others think that Igbo wife beatings would not exist if Igbo youths had a little more education. They say wife beaters are half-educated.

As such, it never occurred to them that life is not a bed of roses. It’s no wonder, then, that every time they step on the thorny patch of married life they go crazy. If they had been educated, they would understand that Igbo women have strong opinions, and trying to suppress them is like trying to suppress a growing pregnancy.

For clarity, let me point out that not all Igbo men assault their wives. There are Igbo men, poor and rich, educated and unschooled, who have impeccable character. They would never lay a hand on their wives or tolerate any man who hurt their dear daughters, their beautiful sisters, and his amazing mothers.

But, you know, as the Igbo proverb says: “When oil makes one finger dirty, the rest of the fingers are dirty.”

Dwight had a nightmare that forced him to flee Babylon, the name given to the capital, Kingston, by many Jamaicans, and move to the countryside. With no capital to invest, he decided to “try something” and established a cooking shop called “Taste A Yaad Restaurant” on the sandy beach of White Bay in Trelawny, Jamaica.

Walking the length of White Bay from the Breezes hotel in the west, I passed rows of couches littered with bodies baking in the morning sun before coming upon a small complex of craft shops jutting out of the mangrove forest into the south edge of the beach. These shacks are typical of those found near tourist centers throughout Jamaica. A couple of vendors greeted me, trying to start a sale with something along the lines of “Good morning, mon! Take a look at my…”, but I kept walking as I’d seen and heard it all before, and had an appointment. meeting Brian, an instructor, for my first kite lesson later on on that fabulous white sand beach.

After another hundred yards, I was stopped in my tracks by the sight of Dwight, his hair combed in a row of canes, raking the beach in front of his establishment, the “Taste A Yaad Restaurant.” My curiosity overcame my enthusiasm for my kitesurfing lesson and I stopped to talk to Dwight, who gave me a tour of his place of business, which was built in the shade of tall trees in an area that sloped away from the beach into a clearing. among the mangroves

As I followed it, weaving in and out of the sunlight filtering through the branches above, I noticed that the main building materials were branches cut from the mangroves and pieces of used wood and plywood that Dwight had collected and recycled. . Chairs and benches were made from mangrove branches, bent and nailed in place. An old rusty sheet metal was turned into a table and a drawing board pattern was painted on it.

The main building was the shop and kitchen with a gallery containing two dining tables and chairs, all covered with zinc and blue plastic sheeting to keep out the rain. At the rear of this building, out of sight of his patrons, Dwight had erected a stand for a large plastic jerrycan to gravity feed the kitchen water supply. Further back and to one side was a very small building with walls made of sticks driven into the sand. Dwight opened the door to show me an amazingly functioning porcelain toilet, whose water supply was also gravity fed from another plastic drum elevated to the rear of this structure. He had also installed a running plastic bowl and faucet as a sink with running water.

With a little paint, mostly in the bright colors red, yellow, and green, Dwight decorated his store and hand-painted his sign. He also used painted shells and bottles that he partially buried in the sand and hung from strings. And for the kid in all of us, he tied a piece of wood to the end of a rope and hung it from a tall tree, providing simple fun in a fabulous setting. From everywhere in Dwight’s “Taste A Yaad Restaurant” there was a fabulous view of the turquoise Caribbean Sea at White Bay.

Dwight’s hard work, attention to detail, and care for his customers were vividly displayed in his clean and tidy place of business. That he could create such an attractive environment with so little was truly remarkable and a joy to behold. I could have spent the whole day there talking to Dwight, but my kitesurfing lesson called so I booted up and promised to be back for lunch.

If any food company decides to introduce modern kitchen equipment into their system, then they have a wide range of options available to improve their performance. It is quite natural that commercial kitchen equipment is technologically much better than that used in domestic households.

The best examples of places where these equipments are used are restaurants, hotels, hostels, etc. The latest invention in the field of kitchen equipment is the chapatti maker, which is known for its hygiene because, the less human effort involved; the lower the chance of germs getting into the dough. Germs were previously used to contaminate food even through the open hands of the cook. There are so many varieties of chapatti making machines available in the markets today that are energy efficient and quite easy to operate. Being energy efficient definitely means that they are helpful in reducing the total cost incurred by commercial setups. The other advantage of this equipment is that it produces flatbreads of the same shape and size, while it is not certain that the flatbreads made by hand will have a uniform shape. There are three types of these machines available in the market: semi-automatic, automatic and fully automatic chapatti makers.

This range is not only limited to the Roti maker, but there are also a wide variety of omelette makers available in the market. A commercial tortilla maker has become a necessity for any restaurant that has to make this dish on a large scale. Without a machine, the job of mixing, rolling, and cooking tortillas is labor intensive. Now these machines save a lot of time and labor that can be used to provide good services to customers. Tortillera composed of mixers, tortilla presses, tortilla cutters, dough dividers, counters and packaging equipment.

Kitchen equipment manufacturers have also introduced the Papad manufacturing machine which saves a lot of time and energy to commercial industries, both small and large scale. The great popularity and demand for South Indian foods such as dosa has led to the invention of dosa machines which, unbelievably, can produce up to four hundred dosa in an hour, which would never have been possible if the same work It would have been done manually. The process of various operations to produce doses such as dispersing the dough, spreading and depositing on the hot plate and roasting is organized in a very systematic way. This device is available with the function of time setting, temperature control and various other features. They are very useful in industrial canteens, festivals, hotels and meetings that take place on a large scale.

There is a machine that is very similar to a Roti machine called a Poori machine that produces small size poori in commercial settings. Therefore, we can conclude that modernization and commercialization are not only limited to the outside world, but have taken over our traditional practices of cooking food and have made life easier for human beings.

If you’re not a person who works in the kitchen, discuss the idea with the person who spends the most time in the kitchen. Kitchen renovation is not just about making the place attractive and unique, it should also provide comfort and ease of use to a person who works there. The location of kitchen cabinets, oven, and sink should be discussed with the person who needs to use them. For example, make sure you create an attractive yet efficient work triangle within your kitchen. The work triangle should be the center of your kitchen renovation where you need to place the fridge, sink and cooker in a triangle shape so that one person can reach all three easily and quickly.

kitchen gabinets

Similarly, the placement of kitchen furniture must be according to the height and access needs of a person who is working in the kitchen. Kitchen cabinets can bring true color and appeal to the workplace, so choose wisely as there are hundreds of varieties available for kitchen cabinets.

The new trend in kitchen renovation shows that many attractive designs use natural light instead of artificial lights in an attempt to design an energy efficient kitchen. 3½ fl oz/100 ml Madeira

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 small carrots }
1 stick of celery } Make sure these 4 ingredients are finely chopped
1 shallot }
1 clove garlic }
1 leek, cleaned and sliced
100g/3½oz mixed mushrooms (ideally morels and chanterelles), cleaned and chopped
150 ml/5 fl oz dry white wine
100 ml/3½ fl oz double cream
4 large flat mushrooms (remove stems)

Ingredients for the Pastry:

225g/8oz prepared puff pastry
flour, for dusting
1 free-range egg, beaten

Instructions:

1) Preheat your oven to 200C or 400F or Gas 6.

2) Using a boning knife, cut legs and wings off chicken and set aside. Carefully cut out the breasts. Drizzle the breasts with a little olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Wrap chicken breasts tightly in plastic wrap and set aside.

3) Place chicken legs in a roasting pan and drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill legs for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through (poke thickest part of leg with a fork or skewer to see if juices run clear). Baste the chicken as often as needed as it cooks.

3) Unwrap chicken breasts from plastic wrap. Poach the breasts for 20 minutes (or until cooked) in a saucepan of boiling water. Carefully shred the meat into a bowl and set aside.

4) Let your Madeira and chicken broth in your small pan simmer for a few minutes before adding the chicken wings. Cook wings for 20 minutes, or until cooked through. Set the wings aside, but keep their cooking broth in reserve.

5) Cook the sauce by heating butter and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet. Gently fry the carrots, celery, leek and shallot for 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables start to soften. Add the garlic and mushrooms along with the remaining oil and gently fry for another 4 to 5 minutes. Pour in the wine and simmer until most of the liquid has evaporated. Add the cream. Put the shredded chicken leg meat.

6) Lay the mushrooms flat on a baking sheet and pour the mushroom sauce on top.

7) For the dough, start by rolling out the puff pastry on a floured surface. Using a pastry cutter, stamp circles the same size as the flat mushrooms you have arranged on your baking sheet. Place the dough on a separate baking sheet. Prick the surface with a fork or skewer. Brush the dough with the beaten egg. Bake this along with the stuffed mushrooms for 8 to 10 minutes, or until well risen and golden brown.

8) To serve, cut the chicken breast into thick slices with a knife. Remove all bones from chicken wings. Arrange mushrooms on a serving plate. Arrange a circle of dough on top and at an angle. Place chicken breast and wing meats on the side. Reheat reserve chicken broth and Madeira sauce and drizzle over plate. Garnish the cake with fresh thyme. Serve with cream potatoes.

Anyone who homeschools knows that it can be difficult to keep kids focused on their work. There are many distractions that can distract you or your child, and this is particularly difficult for children with ADD/ADHD.

If you have a child with ADD or ADHD, you’re probably constantly looking for solutions. The schedule seems to be the biggest challenge for many homeschooling moms. The Pomodoro Technique may be just what you and your child need to get things done.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is actually from a book on time management. It delves into how we perceive time and how to change our habits and thought processes to better use our time.

If you are thinking of using this technique, you should definitely get the book and read it in its entirety so that you fully understand all the fundamentals that cannot be summarized in this article. But the part that can really benefit your child’s homeschooling is the timer technique that the book focuses on.

How the Pomodoro Technique Works

The first thing you need to do is find a digital timer that your child can easily use. Obviously, this will vary depending on your child and her age. Everything from clocks to kitchen timers work well, but portable timers are best as they can be used anywhere.

As you begin to use the Pomodoro Technique, sit down with your child and make a list of what needs to be accomplished. Do this the night before or first thing in the morning.

For each item on the list, set the timer to 25 minutes. Have your child work on the article for 25 minutes, and when the timer goes off, let them take a break. 5 minutes is the recommended break time, but some people will take a 10-minute break. Whatever time frame you choose, just make sure your child sticks to it.

Once the break is over, they reset the timer for 25 minutes and continue with the previous item on the list if it wasn’t finished, or start with the next one.

give them something to look forward to

This method can be very effective for anyone, but for a homeschooler with ADD or ADHD, it really can be a breath of fresh air. The child can work on his projects with a better attitude, because he knows that there is a finite time before he gets to do something that he wants to do. Kids with ADD/ADHD can really get stuck if they don’t know how long a project will take and feel like they’re stuck there until it’s done. When they know there’s a timer counting down and then they’ll be allowed to do something fun, they can apply themselves better. There is light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

Make sure the reward is presented early, especially when you first start using this method. It can be reading, drawing, going out and playing, or whatever you and your child decide. Keep in mind that for kids with ADHD, physical activity during breaks can help them focus even better.

Try the Pomodoro Technique for a week and see how it works for your child. It may be just the right amount of structure and flexibility that they need, and you may even find yourself doing more.

The time has come when the annoying commercials for whitening creams and powders should end and people should care about bright, beautiful and healthy skin. So instead of running after fairness and white skin tone, let’s break the stereotype and find out how to have beautiful and healthy skin. Beautiful skin should be radiant, fresh, healthy, and even-toned. Here are some easy ways and tips for beautiful skin.

makeup and bed

The first and most important thing that you should always keep in mind is that you never sleep with your makeup on. Makeup clogs the skin and makes it unable to breathe, which leads to skin problems like acne, pimples, dark spots, uneven skin tone, etc. Therefore, it is important to remove your makeup before bed and try to use oils instead of makeup removers.

sun kiss

Sun Kiss sounds beautiful, but it is very harmful to your skin. The sun can damage your skin and make it unhealthy. Therefore, it is very important to avoid going out during peak hours and if you can’t, always use your sunscreen with SPF 30 as a minimum. If you have to be in the field, wear light clothing that covers most of your skin. Skin exposure causes tanning, wrinkles, dark spots, age spots, and other skin problems.

Eat healthy to look beautiful

Once again, one of the best tips for beautiful skin is to eat healthy. According to an old adage, it is said that you are what you eat. Therefore, eat healthy and avoid junk food. Foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein are good for your skin, while sugary, oily, fried, spicy, and unhealthy foods lead to pimples, acne, and other skin problems.

Drinking water

The easiest and simplest way to have beautiful skin is to drink plenty of water. Water helps you stay healthy and makes your skin look fresh, radiant and glowing as water removes all the toxins from the body. You should drink at least 8-12 glasses of water a day. Water-based fruits and vegetables also help you in the same way.

Appropriate asleep

We all hear about restful sleep that is really effective and one of the best tips for beautiful skin. Proper and deep sleep of 8 hours makes your skin healthy, glowing, reduces dark circles, eye puffiness, and heals damaged skin cells. Plus, enjoy the ‘before bed’ beauty regimen of cleansing and moisturizing for healthy, beautiful skin.

training and exercise

Workouts and exercises are not only good for the body but also lead to beautiful and glowing skin. When we exercise we sweat, sweating helps remove all the dirt, dust and toxins from your skin and body, giving you a radiant skin tone and glow. Exercise, yoga, jogging or any other exercise also improves blood circulation and speeds up the body’s natural cleansing process.

Tension, stress are enemies

Stress and tension are the worst enemies of beautiful skin. Stress leads to age spots, breakouts, wrinkles, puffy eyes, dark circles, and dull skin. When the stress hormone cortisol increases, the skin becomes oily. So try to be happy and also practice yoga, breathing exercises and meditation to de-stress.

Home remedies

Tips for beautiful skin are incomplete without the best treatments found in your kitchen and used by all Indian ladies for years. Milk, turmeric, sandalwood, honey, lemon, rose water, fuller’s earth, fruits, vegetables, yogurt, etc. always help you get beautiful skin. You need to make amazing cleansers, face masks, scrubs with these ingredients for your skin and see the magic.
