Narrowing down the list of famous police leaders to the 5 most influential people in law enforcement history is difficult. Many people have influenced law enforcement around the world since ancient Egyptian and Greek societies. The following men, however, may be 5 of the most recognizably influential people in recent US law enforcement history:

Eugenio Biscailuz: As the 27th sheriff of Los Angeles County in 1932, Biscailuz was instrumental in a variety of revolutionary changes in California law enforcement that influenced the entire country. He founded the California Highway Patrol, among other things.

Bill Bratton: This former New York City police commissioner oversaw huge reductions in crime rates in New York City in the 1990s, and many people say Rudi Giuliani took credit for it before firing him. Bratton, also a former Boston police commissioner, served as the police chief of the Los Angeles County Police Department before retiring in 2009.

Daryl Doors: As Chief of the Los Angeles County Police Department from 1978 to 1992, he was instrumental in a number of major changes, including the founding of DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics). He also overlooks the Los Angeles Police Department during a tumultuous time for race relations, especially after the Rodney King incident in 1991.

Theodore Roosevelt: Although most famous as the 26th President of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt was also the Chairman of the New York City Police Commissioners from 1895 to 1897. He turned around a corrupt police force by establishing new disciplinary rules, creating a bike squad to tackle traffic. he problems, standardizing officers’ use of handguns, implementing firearms inspections and physicals, and hiring 1,600 new recruits based solely on physical and mental qualifications.

August Vollmer: Known as a leading figure in the development of the United States criminal justice field, Vollmer began as the first police chief of Berkeley, California. After a long career he was appointed president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police in 1921.

There are several rewards for reading additional posts, but perhaps my favorite is this: a fantastic guide can give you a whole new way to interpret your past activities.

Every time you discover a completely new product or psychological thought, it can be as if the “app” in your mind is updated. You can instantly run all your stale data details through a new method. You could discover new classes from deprecated moments. As Patrick O’Shaughnessy says, “Looking changes the above.” smyrna table our page

Naturally, this is certainly only true when you internalize and recall ideas with the textbooks you browse. Consciousness will only aggravate if it is withheld. Basically, what matters is not simply reading more guides, but getting more out of every book you read.

Gaining knowledge is not the only reason to surf, unsurprisingly. Reading for pleasure or entertainment is often a wonderful use of time, but this short article is about looking to find out. With that in mind, I’d like to share some of the most effective comprehension procedures I’ve discovered.

1. Stop many more posts

It doesn’t take long to determine if something is really worth reading. Skilled craftsmanship and substantial and excellent thoughts stand out.

Consequently, a lot of people should probably start more guides than they are doing. This does not mean that you should read each booking web page by site. You can browse the table of contents, chapter titles, and subheadings. Pick a fascinating part and dive into the handful of web pages. You may flip through the book and look at the details or tables in bold. In ten minutes, you’ll need an inexpensive idea of how great it is.

Then comes the vital phase: stop leading quickly and without blame or dishonor.

Life is too short to waste it on regular guides. The opportunity charge is too substantial. There are numerous wonderful articles to read. I think Patrick Collison, the founding father of Stripe, put it right when he reported, “Lifestyle is just too limited not to read the perfect ebook you already know right now.”

Here is my suggestion:

Start more textbooks. Exit Most of them. Read The Good Guys twice.

two. Decide which books you need to use immediately

One method of improving reading comprehension is to select guides that can be used immediately. Putting the Tips you read into motion is one of the best tips on how to keep them in mind. Following is an extremely useful type of mastering.

Choosing a book that you can use also provides a powerful incentive to focus and try to remember the fabric. That’s particularly true when something essential hangs in the balance. When you’re starting a business, then you have a lot of drive to get as much as possible out of the gross sales ebook you’re reading. Similarly, someone who will be working in biology could conceivably peruse Origin of Species more carefully than a random reader, since it connects directly to her day-to-day work.

Obviously, not every eBook is usually a practical guide that can be applied immediately, and that’s a good thing. You will find wisdom in many alternative guides. But I learn that I am much better able to remember books that are relevant to my daily life.

3. Produce search notes

Keep notes on whatever happens. You can do this by saying you like it. It won’t have to be a major generation or sophisticated method. Just do something to emphasize the crucial factors and passages.

I try this in various ways depending on the format I’m consuming. I highlight passages when reviewing on Kindle. I vary intriguing quotes while listening to audiobooks. I Canine listens to internet pages and transcribes notes when looking at a printed guide.

But here’s the gist: sell your notes in a searchable format.

There is no need to leave the reading work through comprehension entirely in your memory. I keep my notes in Evernote. I prefer Evernote over other options due to the fact that one) it’s really searchable right out of the box, 2) it can be easy to use on many devices, and 3) it can create and help save notes even when you’re not connected to the Internet. world.

I bring my notes to Evernote in 3 ways:

I. Audiobook: I make a new Evernote file for each booking and then immediately write my notes to that file as I listen to them.

II. Book: I highlight passages on my Kindle Paperwhite and use a software called Clippings to export all my Kindle highlights specifically to Evernote. I then add a summary in the guide and any additional comments just before I post it to my guide summary page.

3rd Print: Like my audiobook approach, I sort my notes as I go. If I come across a longer passage that I choose to transcribe, I place the guide on a standby as I form. (Writing notes while reading a printed book is often annoying simply because you constantly put the ebook down and pick it up again, but this is the best solution I’ve found.)

Obviously, your notes don’t need to be digital to be “searchable”. An example is, you should use Article-It Notes to tag specific web pages for future reference. As an alternative, the Ryan Getaway involves storing almost all of your notes on an index card and sorting them by subject or book.

The core concept is identical: preserving searchable notes is essential for returning to ideas conveniently. A plan is only valuable if you can find it when you want it.

4. Mix trees of knowledge

One method of looking at a guide is like a technology tree with a couple of basic principles forming the trunk and details forming the branches. You can learn more and improve reading comprehension through “linking branches” and integrating your current eBook with other trees of awareness.

As an example:

While watching neuroscientist VS Ramachandran’s The Tell-Tale Mind, I discovered that one of his important points related to an earlier strategy I learned from social researcher Brene Brown.

In my notes with The Fine Art of Not Delivering a F*ck, I pointed out how Mark Manson’s notion of “committing suicide” overlaps with Paul Graham’s essay on keeping your identity small.

As I perused George Leonard’s Mastery, I noticed that while this book dealt with the entire breeding process, it also lost some light on the connection between genetics and effectiveness.

I included each individual perspective in my notes for that particular eBook.

Connections like these allow you to remember everything you read by “hooking” new facts to concepts and concepts you previously fully understood. As Charlie Munger suggests, “If you follow the psychological pattern of relating what you’re reading to the basic construction of the underlying ideas shown, little by little you accumulate some wisdom.”

If you read something that reminds you of Other Business or immediately triggers a relationship or strategy, don’t let that belief come back and go suddenly. Write about what you have found out and how it connects with other strategies.

5. Write a brief summary

Once I complete an eBook, I strive to summarize the entire text in just three sentences. This restriction is just a sport of course, but it forces me to consider what was definitely vital regarding the guide.

Some thoughts I keep in mind when summarizing a guide include things like:

What exactly are the most crucial tips?

If you were to implement just one thought from this book right now, what wouldn’t it be?

How would you describe the eBook to a friend?

In various circumstances, I find that I can get just as much practical data by reading my one-paragraph summary and examining my notes as I would if I were to go through the entire book one more time.

If you really feel like you can’t squeeze the entire reserve into three sentences, think about using the Feynman Technique.

Feynman’s strategy is usually an awareness-raising tactic named after Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. It’s very simple: Write the name of his guide at the top of a blank piece of paper, then write how you would explain the book to someone who has never heard of it.

If you end up stuck, or if the problem is that there are holes you’re familiar with, evaluate your notes or go back to the text and review everything again. Keep creating it until you finally have a better understanding of the main ideas and feel really confident in yourself as part of your rationalization.

I found that almost nothing reveals gaps in my thinking better than writing about a concept as if I were explaining it to a newbie. Ben Carlson, an economic analyst, says something similar: “I find The obvious way to find out what I’ve found in a book is to write something about it.”

6. Surround the subject

I usually imagine Thomas Aquinas’s estimate: “Beware the man of a single e-book.”

If you just read one book on a subject and use that as the basis for your personal beliefs for a lifetime, well, what do those beliefs look like? How accurate and complete is your information?

Reading a book will take effort, but far too often, people use a single ebook or short article as the idea for a whole belief method. This can be even more genuine (and harder to overcome) in terms of using our personal work experience as the insight for our beliefs. As Morgan Housel observed: “Your personal activities account for perhaps 0.00000001% of what happens on this planet, but perhaps 80% of how you think the entire world is effective. We are all predisposed to our individual individual heritage.”

One method of attacking this problem will be to review several different books on the exact same subject. Delve from different angles, think about the same dilemma in the eyes of several authors and try to transcend the limits of your personal encounter.

7. Examine it 2 times

I’d like to end by going back to a notion I discussed near the beginning of this post: scan great posts twice.

Concepts must be recurring to be remembered in general. Author David Cain says, “When we discover something afterwards, we don’t seriously master it, at least not enough to change us substantially. It may cheer us up momentarily, but then it’s immediately overrun by the many.” years of patterns and conditioning that preceded it.

On top of that, checking out great guides is useful mainly because the issues it handles change over time. Absolutely sure, after flipping through a book twice, you’ll probably find some things you missed the first time, but the new passages and concepts are more likely to be relevant to you. It is purely natural for various sentences to jump out at you regarding the level you are at in life.

You read a similar book, but you never see it the same way. As Charles Chu later wrote: “I often return home to a similar number of authors. And however many times I return, I usually find that they have something new to mention.”

where to go from below

Understanding the compounds eventually.

In Chapter 1 of Atomic Patterns, I wrote, “Understanding a new notion won’t make you a genius, but a lifelong determination to understand is often transformative.”

A single reservation will rarely transform your life, whether or not it produces a second of Perception. The key is to obtain a minimum of daily wisdom.

Since you know how to get more from every book you read, you may be looking to read some tips. Feel free to take a look at my eBook summaries or my public reading list.

Surrogacy is a path that many couples who cannot have children of their own have chosen due to the intimacy and experiences involved in the process. There are many things that need to be considered before making the decision to become a surrogate mother. You should first talk to a lawyer and/or an adoption agency that specializes in surrogacy. They can provide you with a list of things to consider and available agencies to get you started on your journey, educate you about your rights and those of the adoptive couple and what you can expect and what is expected of you.

When considering becoming a surrogate mother, you must also decide whether you will be an independent surrogate or an agency surrogate. As an independent surrogate, she must be responsible for her own arrangements, finding the right partner, drawing up a contract, and if something goes wrong with the arrangements, she will be responsible for finding another partner. As an agency representative, all of these arrangements and legalities are handled for you by your agent. Whichever route you choose, make sure you have consulted with an attorney who specializes in surrogacy and adoption to serve your best interests.

The next step in becoming a surrogate involves the physical aspects or the extent of steps you are willing to take to get pregnant. You must decide if she is willing to undergo artificial insemination, hormone therapy, and/or IVF. Each of these steps is time consuming and not foolproof, so it’s always best to have a backup plan, if possible, in case your first design choice doesn’t work.

Finally, once an agency or attorney is retained on your journey to become a surrogate, psychological and physical tests must be performed to ensure that you are healthy enough to carry a child to term and that there is no history of doctors or relatives. stories that can cause pregnancy or genetic problems. Extensive counseling will take place to ensure that she is comfortable and able to deal with all the aspects of having another couple’s child and delivering it once she is born. They will need to determine if an open or sealed adoption will take place after the birth. You, as a surrogate, have the right to have a say in this matter. They will plan all expenses and payments for services rendered. These expenses will include maternity clothing, medical care, dietary compensation, and salary, if applicable.

Therefore, becoming a surrogate mother can be a wonderful adventure and a humanitarian act, but make sure you know what you are getting yourself into and seek legal advice from surrogacy specialists. You should understand that she will be assessed physically and psychologically to ensure that she is able to manage the transition from pregnancy to adoption and be prepared for her family to also be interviewed to determine postpartum support.

If you’re new to SEO, a blogger looking to improve your search engine rankings, or have some sort of delusion that you could easily rank for keywords like “money” or “make money,” then this hub is for you. .

If you are a writer looking to benefit from writing for hubpages or any of the other social sharing networks that share a portion of contextual ad taking, then you may also find this interesting and useful in terms of being able to easily rank for terms.

What is a long tail keyword?

First of all, a long-tail keyword is nothing more than a series of words strung together. These types of keywords generally convert better because in the eyes of the searcher, the longer the search query, the better chance they have of finding a real solution.

And for the seller, this is a very important point to understand….

The longer the queue… the more directed the conversation becomes…

Here’s an example:

  • Let’s say I want to make money online. I open Google search and type it.
  • This will give me a very general list of things… I find nothing… I refine and refine my search…
  • “Ways to make money online”. I type this search query and find better information. On several of the sites, they offer high value home study products. But I have no money… Time to refine…
  • “Cheap Ways to Make Money Online”. In one of the listings, I find out about the Google AdSense program. This looks good to me and I’m starting to get a better idea of what to look for….
  • “Free and easy ways to make money online with adsense.” In one of the lists, I find that there are content sharing sites where I don’t have to spend a penny of my money… one of them is with hubpages…
  • “Make money online fast with AdSense using hubpages”….

See how the tail gets longer and longer as I get closer to the rabbit hole? See how refined it gets?

New webmasters hoping to make money online tend to search for keywords that are very competitive… Big mistake…

One of the “secrets” to making money marketing products online is that traffic volume means very little in terms of making money. Social media marketers have figured this out the hard way.

From a common sense perspective, think of it this way…

If you are looking for a Memphis DUI attorney, would you be more likely to find the information by searching for a Memphis DUI attorney or a DUI attorney? And if you wanted to get even more particular, if you were broke, wouldn’t you think you’d get the best result from a search query like this “Memphis DUI attorney doing pro bono work”?

Of course, there is a trade-off in trying to optimize your website for long tails versus root keywords. The tradeoff is traffic. While a root keyword might get you thousands of unique visitors a day, the long tail keyword will typically not deliver more than a few hundred a month.

And the niche marketer has an answer for this too. Instead of spending months trying to rank a page for a root keyword, they can spend a few weeks and build a ton of traffic by creating lots of pages that target long-tail keywords.

This is the go-to for bloggers looking to drive traffic to their blog. It’s not about ranking for the root keyword right away. Instead, write content focused on the long-tail keyword, getting a few hundred visitors a month from multiple, highly targeted pages… and giving the visitor exactly what they’re looking for instead of a very general idea about a keyword. root which is not very specific at all….

Sometimes I hear from wives who actually know the “other woman” or have to interact with her. This is a very difficult situation. But it’s even worse when the other woman “reveals” her affair to a circle of other people to add to your pain. As a result, she’s not only dealing with the affair, her husband, and her, but she also has to deal with strangers who really have nothing to do with the affair. This shouldn’t be anyone else’s business. And yet, the other woman has done it to let strangers know.

A wife might say, “My husband told me about the affair before the other woman told everyone. So I can’t say it took me completely by surprise. But no one else knew until she made her big announcement. And I wouldn’t have told anyone. The other woman is on the same board I’m on at my son’s school. We were in a meeting and she made a ridiculous suggestion, which I rejected. She was only talking about things related to the meeting, but blurted out, ‘oh, she’s just mad that I’ve been sleeping with her husband for two months.’ No one said anything. The room was completely silent. I was so mortified that I left. And I haven’t been able to show my face since then. I left my son and I don’t go to school anymore. I’m so ashamed. I can’t stand the idea that everyone knows and is talking about me, my marriage and my family. I told my husband, but as already broke up, he says there’s not much he can do because he doesn’t want to talk ar with the other woman anyway. I have no idea what I want to do with my marriage. My husband has offered to move me if I find living here too difficult. But I can’t do anything until the school year is over. finished. I don’t want to interrupt my son. That means I’m stuck with everyone I know knowing what happened. I’m resigning from the committee the other woman is on. But I’ll still have to see it. her at school sometimes, as well as the other moms. I don’t know how I’m going to show my face.”

I completely understand why you are so upset. And I find the behavior of the other woman absolutely attractive. But I think it’s SHE who should be mortified, not you. I understand why you feel embarrassed. Many of us feel ashamed, even though we are innocent. You are not the one who did something bad. Understandably, you didn’t stick around to see how the other women at the meeting reacted, but if I had been in that room, it’s the other woman I would have judged harshly, not you. She’s the one who needed attention so badly that she had to bring up something that she had nothing to do with the meeting and she just meant to hurt someone else. I know it’s very easy to assume the worst and fear that the women in the meeting are gossiping about you. But I suspect that maybe they are gossiping about HER. You shouldn’t be the one who can’t go out in public. You should have every right to feel comfortable at your child’s school.

If it were me, I’d contact the chairperson of the meeting or one of the women closest to you. She would tell you that she is considering how best to run the committee, since obviously both you and the other woman will be on it together and it will cause discomfort and tension for everyone involved. I honestly think there’s a chance they’ll ask the other woman to leave, as her comments were completely inappropriate. If you enjoy the committee, why do you have to leave when you did nothing wrong?

I very much understand the tendency to want to hide right now. I also had this inclination. But when you do that, you only make it harder to put two feet in front of the other, keep your head up, and continue living your life. You are not the culprit here. You should be able to live your normal life if you want. Of course, some families feel more comfortable moving out and starting over after an adventure. But if you don’t want to move, you shouldn’t have to. And if you want to stay on the committee, you should be able to. You are not the one who made the comment. You are not the one who cheated on your spouse and announced it in public. So there’s no reason for you to act like the guilty party. I know it’s hard, but I suggest you keep your head up and continue with activities that return you to your comfortable routine. The other woman has disturbed your life enough. There’s no reason to give her the power to make him uncomfortable at her son’s school.

Roti makers are becoming more and more popular in the age of fast life. This kitchen appliance is a boon for those who have less time to cook at home and want to eat hygienic and delicious homemade chappatis. But it is important to buy high quality rotis as they should not burn the dish and make it soft and delicious. Here are some points of concern that one should be aware of.

Analyzing the operation: A chapati or roti maker is an electrical device that is meant to improve people’s lives. They are powered by electrical power and transform a dumpling into a flat roti, applying pressure from their two base plates. The plates then generate heat, which cooks the roti, making it soft and fluffy. It is multifunctional and it is also possible to cook other varieties of dosa by using it as an open pan and without putting pressure on its handles. Choose a machine that accommodates all of these job capabilities to get the best value for money spent on it.

Understand usage: Roti makers are meant to alleviate the difficulties associated with making chapatis, ideally they should make excellent 1mm thick rotis in a few minutes and should be able to cook other varieties of tiffin like uttapams, dosas, parathas etc.

Search on the brand name of the roti maker– Choose a reputable and well-known brand, so that your customer support team is truly available for after-sales service and repairs. Please inspect the product thoroughly before choosing to purchase it for faults and repairs. In particular, look for the on/off indicator light to avoid accidents while cooking, especially when children are around.

iron material: The griddle or hot plates of the rotimaker are usually forged aluminum. Check for the aluminum made body as it helps in equal heat distribution and cooks roti evenly. The plates of the griddle can be of a non-stick coating so that the flour does not stick and does not require the use of oil on the surface. Although different size rotis are available, it is a smart choice to purchase electric rotis from 8″ to 10″ in diameter.

Temperature: The cooking surface of the electric roti should be able to reach 425 degrees Celsius for best results. But the power factor depends on the material used to mold it, the size of the iron, etc. 750 watts are needed for a 10″ size iron and 250 watts for its lid.

Safety: Since the roti maker is powered by power, it is important that it is made of a shockproof body. Accidents associated with power leaks should be avoided, check the brand’s safety standards before purchasing.

Considering these factors, roti makers are an amazing tool for any kitchen and can be easily used by single men, working women, students and their importance should not be neglected.

REFLECTION ROOM

“Let your heart, then, be perfect with the

Lord our God, to walk in his statutes and

to keep his commandments…”

1 Kings 8:61

According to Jewish literature and traditions, great care was taken of the personal condition of each Israelite who entered the Temple for Divine worship. The Talmud dictated the following requirements: “No man shall enter the Temple with his staff or with his shoes on his feet, or with his outer clothing, or with money tied up in his bag.” Freemasonry has adopted portions of this ancient Jewish custom regarding the preparation of the candidate to enter a lodge.

Although not Jewish in origin, the Chamber of Reflection, which has been incorporated into a candidate’s preparation in some American lodges, is an updated version of the ancient initiation cave. However, it also serves to prepare the candidate to enter the holy land. Typically, the chamber is a small room lit only by a candle that casts a dim light on an array of decorations, including a human skull, human bones, a piece of bread, a flask of water, an hourglass, a saucer with salt and another containing sulfur. The candidate sits alone inside to silently contemplate the sacred significance of his intended Masonic journey.

Seated at a table, the candidate must write a philosophical testament that will later be read aloud in the lodge. To compose that testament, the candidate must search his soul for his true feelings about life, death and the transformation of the self from his material nature to his spiritual destiny. It should come as no surprise that the symbols located within the chamber are derived primarily from alchemy, the science and philosophy of metamorphosis.

Alchemists believed that the salt that is extracted from sea water by the evaporation process constitutes the element of fire delivered by water. Sulfur is to the human body what the sun is to the earth. The union of salt and sulfur symbolizes life and death, or light and darkness feeding each other. Therefore, while the general candidate for the Masonic degrees does not have a complete knowledge of alchemy or the symbols it employs, they are intended to meditate on esoteric matters such as the evolution and continuity of all life, as well as the fact that transformation from material life to spiritual existence is a matter of personal experience. Each and every human being will live, die, and live again, but no one can fully appreciate how it will feel until it actually happens.

For Freemasons, time spent in the Chamber of Reflection symbolizes the trials of life. The first lesson to learn is that nothing is inherently good or bad. People are responsible for making things better or worse depending on how they behave. Thus, the first lesson relates to the importance of accepting responsibility for one’s own actions.

The hourglass asks the candidate to reflect on the irreversibility of the passage of time. Material life is in a continuous progression towards decay and there is very little time available to participate in the development of the spirit. Bread denotes the transformation from raw to fully cooked, from raw wheat to bread fit for human consumption. A Mason is of no value to the world in which he lives simply because he has been initiated into the Order. Rather, he must prepare himself by studying and applying the knowledge he acquires if he is ever to benefit society and humanity. The vial of water represents fertility, or regeneration, of which purification, or baptism, is also a symbol. The regeneration explained in this symbolism is not that of the resurrection of the spirit and soul, but that of the resurrection to moral and virtuous life of the material body. The regeneration of the spirit and soul benefits the individual, while the renewal of the determination to live will benefit others. Most religions teach that unless a man renews his material life to do good works, he will not be fully prepared for eternal life.

It is essential that the candidate understand that Freemasonry does not teach that good works achieve salvation of spirit and soul. Rather, religions teach that lesson in various ways. Freemasonry instructs how a life should be lived, how the “works” of a human life are actually reflected in the “faith” one has. Therefore, the path for which the Chamber of Reflection prepares the candidate is the path to a better life, not the salvation that can only come by God’s grace, never by man’s own works and deeds.

The human skull that is placed in the chamber is intended to remind the candidate that death is the great leveler. No man can escape its clutches and no man can really know how he feels to be dead until he has experienced death himself. The skull is also intended to teach the candidate that death is also a source of life. As plant and animal life die to be consumed by human life, the truth that death contributes to life is profoundly illustrated. When a good man dies, his works remain and contribute to the welfare of those who continue to live. The opposite is true for a bad man. While his evil deeds die with him, the effect of those deeds can live long after he is gone. The lessons learned in Masonry enable the member to make his own death more likely to be a source of life to others, not a source of grievance and torment.

The symbols arranged in the Chamber of Reflection are also intended to instill in the mind of the novitiate the importance of distinguishing between what is real and what is fanciful. When man becomes attached to reality, he frees himself from the phantasms that so soon oppose light and darkness. Most of the time, misbehavior is the consequence of a confused imagination. In Hitler’s twisted fantasy, the Jew was responsible for the ills of his society. A serial killer often fantasizes that viciously and violently taking his own life brings pleasure.

Energy is the fruit of contradictory forces that resist each other. It turns into positive energy or negative energy depending on whether or not the dark side of life becomes too excessive. The light does not always shine in a man’s soul more than it always illuminates the earth. For approximately twelve hours out of every twenty-four hours of each day, darkness prevails. In man’s life, he does not always enjoy good health; for at least a few days, his body is sick. It is not about how to remove the darkness, because that is contrary to the laws of Nature. Rather, it is a matter of what to do when he is surrounded by darkness that dictates whether or not positive energy will ultimately prevail.

In preparation for the Masonic journey, whether or not that journey begins with a period of private contemplation in the Chamber of Reflection, the candidate should be led to reflect on where he is in his own life, where he wishes to be when his life is at hand. ends of the earth and the best way to travel between those two points. Many lodges in America have stopped teaching this valuable lesson early in a candidate’s Masonic career. Most of the time, the candidates are simply “set” by the way they are dressed, which is finally explained once he has started the journey. Little or nothing is said about what it means to follow Masonry, or why that pursuit is meaningful to man and society until after one or more titles have been awarded to the candidate.

Is it possible that by reinstating the important symbolism of the Chamber of Reflection in the operation of each Masonic lodge, some who leave the Craft after a very short trip will continue their search? Is it important to teach a candidate what is expected of him before he receives the Masonic degrees? Symbolism is a way of showing how words create images and how these images become elements of myths, imaginary tales that ring true because they follow winding paths that lead from desires to ideas and actions. Because Freemasonry communicates its wise and earnest truths through symbols that have been selected over time, it is most likely very important for a candidate for degrees to appreciate the meditation required of him before embarking on his journey. masonic.

For many Freemasons, the search for knowledge and wisdom is an ongoing process of study, application, revision of what has been previously studied, and further application of new lessons learned. This process is consistent with the exhortation often uttered in Masonic lodges: “gather what has been scattered and reconcile what appears to be contradictory.” Each of us has experienced the need both to conform and to be different. We have also experienced believing and not believing; certainty and doubt; and order and chaos. Those of us who are able to read this writing have yet to experience the difference between what we know as life and death, and whether or not there is a difference.

If in your Masonic career you were not allowed the opportunity to gaze into a Chamber of Reflection before receiving your titles, you may do so now by bowing your head and offering a prayer to the Great Architect that he understands where you are in your life. , how you got there and how you will travel to the end of your life. As in all Masonic matters, the choice is yours. As is also true in all Masonic matters, no man should undertake any great or important undertaking without first invoking God’s blessing.

One of the most difficult parts of a career change for lawyers is that it involves a change of identity. We are talking about an emotional attachment, not business. Remember the line from “You’ve got mail” when Tom Hanks says to Meg Ryan, “It’s not personal, it’s just business” and Meg Ryan says, of course, that it’s personal to her. Her her business is her, they are interchangeable! This is exactly why it is so difficult for lawyers to leave the law.

No matter how much we know deep down that we really should be doing something else, it is very scary to think of a completely different life. When we think of introducing ourselves as more than just a lawyer at a cocktail party, it’s unfathomable! I know that I hung my law degree high and proud when I first left law. He wanted everyone to know that he was indeed a lawyer, even if he was now a career counselor too!

So how do you go about leaving the law with this big hurdle in the way, this big hurdle, called your ego! Well, the first thing I teach is to take distance. It is very difficult to find a passion when you are immersed in the world of lawyers. The best thing you can do is make new friends. Or if you have non-lawyer friends, spend more time with them.

You may be switching off your instinct. If you allow yourself to open up and be open to new ideas, opportunities will present themselves to you. In fact, they are already coming to you but you don’t see them because you are not open to them. “Follow your gut” is a skill that all people possess, but it is similar to a muscle that must be exercised or it will atrophy. This muscle may be a little flaccid and need some exercise.

Your task is to practice following your instincts in little things in your life, including what to wear, where to eat, what invitations to respond to (yes and no), etc. Don’t think, just decide and move on. Scott, my husband says, “STICK AND MOVE!” No more “analysis paralysis” (or at least no more in your personal life).

Enroll in a class or pursue an interest that is not related to the practice of law at all, but in which you have had a long-standing interest. Even if it’s not something you can do for a living, go ahead and sign up! Most of the time, we lawyers spend so much energy building this image that we know everything and are in perfect control of every area of our lives. This is partly because the cost of hiring a lawyer is quite high, and we simply can’t let our clients know that we have insecurities or that we might have to look something up (God forbid). But the unintended result of this behavior is that we lose touch with our instincts and put an enormous amount of weight on the title, “lawyer,” and are particularly bad at being “new” or asking for help.

This can be a huge obstacle to leaving the law. In other words, we are sure that to find a career that we are passionate about we will first have to be newbies and that is so painful that we prefer to dedicate ourselves to a career that little by little is killing us. But, by taking a class in something that you will definitely NOT be good at, you are exercising that muscle. In the process, you’ll learn that it’s not that bad to be new, it’s actually liberating to ask for help, it’s fun to be out of your comfort zone, and you can meet new people and have fun.

Extra Credit: When you get there (to the class you’re taking or however you choose to accomplish the assignment), be open. You can’t sit there with a negative attitude and think, “I’ve heard this all before,” or “this works better,” or “I’ve tried everything and this doesn’t work.” By acting and thinking in this way, you will actually block yourself from all this work. What are you waiting for? Remember, your time is now! This is your turn to be happy, to be passionate, and to live life to the fullest.

Live the race of your life!

When it comes to public speaking, the 3 P’s are essential: prepare, practice and present. Many will say that your delivery is the most important aspect of your presentation; and certainly the most creative, most inspiring and/or most exciting words will not reach their goal if your expressive skills are weak. However, to say that one aspect of public speaking is more important than another would be wrong.

Good public speaking skills include solid preparation, the first step of which is defining your purpose. What is your reason for speaking? Are you there to inform or to persuade? Whatever your purpose, build your presentation or speech around your objective.

Research and outline your text by breaking it down into main points, or as I refer to them, blocks of information. This is more important than you think. If you can learn to focus your material within large blocks of information, it will be easier for you to plan your material, practice it, and then deliver it.

Once you have your outline, start practicing out loud. Even if you haven’t finished creating your completed piece, start saying your words out loud and listen to how they flow. By doing so, you may change some of the material you already thought of and discover other material or anecdotes that you want to include.

Don’t underestimate the value of rehearsing your outline even before it’s finished. Practicing your material is one of the most underrated and overlooked aspects of public speaking, and yet without practice, your chances of success are less likely. Your audience is not interested in hearing you ‘practice’ on stage. Just as athletes, actors, musicians, and singers rehearse daily, so should the speaker.

When you practice, don’t just go over your words. Imagine that you are speaking to an audience as you speak. When working with clients in private, I fill the room with large stuffed animals so my clients have an audience to recognize as they look around the room.

Your final step is to deliver your speech or presentation to your ‘live’ audience. If you’ve done your homework and crafted a strong informative or persuasive talk, if you’ve faithfully gone over your material so you know it ‘inside and out’, your presentation will be much easier and your chances of success much better. Speak to your audience with passion and enthusiasm as if you were having a conversation in your living room, and your audience will thank you.

The fear of public speaking makes the task of public speaking much more difficult than it should be. You’ll find that solid preparation and serious practice will make your presentation much better, much easier, and much more dynamic.
