Target-focused self-defense training is the key to a successful self-defense system. Knowing which targets to focus on and how to attack them is really the foundation of any successful fighting system. This is where many martial arts fall short when compared to self defense systems. Martial arts often focus heavily on fine motor techniques that are amazing to look at and extremely difficult to master, but sadly less effective than some simple self defense moves.

The real secret to self defense is knowing which targets are the most vulnerable, annoying and painful. Before I list the top 5, keep in mind that you should never develop targeting (focusing on a single target as your only hope of stopping an attacker). You have to be able to switch targets easily as the fight or altercation progresses. More on this later…

The 5 main objectives:

  1. Groin – This is not a huge surprise, but it is often overlooked. Most fights will start with a right tedder. A good fighter will go straight for a valuable target like the muzzle (if he isn’t protected). The groin is an effective target due to the extreme pain and involuntary reaction it causes in men. It’s almost impossible not to double down with a good muzzle shot. This makes for the perfect combination of vulnerable, distracting, and hurt.
  2. Eyes: The eyes are a great target because they are our primary sense used in fighting. Hitting the eyes also triggers an emotional response in attackers because it is such a valuable target. An eye gouge will instantly bring tears to the eyes, blurring vision for a second, allowing you to get the upper hand. Eye strikes should only be attempted if the eyes are not shielded. They are especially effective when an attacker has his hands full grabbing your shirt or shoulders etc. Instead of fighting his hold, he just punches in the eyes.
  3. Throat: The throat is a particularly sensitive and vulnerable part of the body. Often the natural instinct in a fighting or self-defense situation is to headbutt. This is great if you happen to land a knockout punch, but chances are you won’t. Aim for the throat instead. It’s soft (won’t break knuckles), damaging (can cut off your air supply), and can end a fight quickly (a blow to the neck can cause a knockout). Best of all, a blow to the throat, even if not executed perfectly, is very distracting (I can prove it… press your thumb into the spot just below the Adam’s apple, yeah, not very comfortable, to say the least).
  4. Ear: This may seem a bit dark, but the ear is a great self-defense target (and I don’t mean a Tyson ear bite). A slap to the ear can be a very damaging and painfully excruciating blow. A punch to the ear won’t damage his hand (as a punch will), if executed right it will burst the eardrum causing a lot of pain, temporary hearing loss and dizziness. This certainly meets the criteria for vulnerable (requires minimal force to deal a large amount of damage), distracting, and painful.
  5. Knee: So far I’ve only mentioned targets that will distract and cause pain by allowing you to escape an attacker by taking advantage of the distraction and running. The knee is a target that can easily prevent an attacker from following you or following through with any type of attack. The knee is not a very strong joint. Yes, they take us all day, so they’re strong in a couple of directions, but they’re very vulnerable when hit in the right place.

The good news is that people rarely protect their knees. Only a seasoned martial artist (not your average street thug) will defend their vulnerable knees effectively. The trick is to hit the inside of the knee. This is the most vulnerable part of the joint. A well-placed blow to the inside of the knee will tear some of the ligaments and tendons in the knee, eliminating your ability to walk, run, or stand. This makes it a perfect target for self defense.

This target is especially good if you are being grabbed from behind. You can strike the inside of the knee with the heel. The front knee is also effective, but requires more strength.

3 principles for using objectives effectively:

  1. Know how to hit all of these targets from various self defense scenarios (while being held from behind, being held face to face, from a shooting range, etc.).
  2. Learn to always scan attackers or combat partners for open targets, these will constantly change during a self defense situation.
  3. Always follow up a high-value target attack with another (can be the same target, but not always). For example, if a muzzle blow doubles an attacker, take advantage of this moment to slap him on the ear or an elbow to the back of the neck. The point is that you should never expect one punch to end a fight no matter how brilliantly executed. Hit him until he’s incapacitated (on the ground or you have a real chance of escaping).

These are universal principles. Targets should be the focus of any good fighting or self defense system. As a leader in the self defense industry, I have my own system that I teach, but these principles should be the foundation of any system. How do I know this? Over the years, I have met and worked with dozens of black belt instructors in many martial arts, bar bouncers, Special Forces military personnel from various countries, defense contractors, police chiefs, and high-level security guards. . Although each person had a different teaching style and set of strokes they taught, they are all very focused on goals (because goals are the real key). Just think about it, a fancy punch is just a fancy punch until it lands in the right spot. Every self defense tool known to man is useless unless he hits the right target.

In the model train hobby, much of what you will do will flow from the theme you have chosen for your model train. From the stage to the rolling stock, from the tracks to the power supplies, it will all depend on your theme.

When it comes down to it, the issue is all about what you want to do.

Choosing a theme is about:

  • an era
  • a fit
  • an operating style

Model train eras:

There are three main eras for model trains: steam, modern, and transition.

1. The Steam Age covers everything from the Wild West (1870s) to World War II (1940s), but for most people, the Steam Age pretty much covers the 1930s to 1940s. The visual appeal and nostalgic elements of intricately modeled steam engines pulling a wagon train are hard to beat.

2. Modern Era usually means today’s trains, although it could possibly cover anything from the 1960s to the present day. The modern era can encompass everything from ultramodern diesel engines pulling intermodal trains to commuter rail and everything in between, but for most people, a modern era train layout will show locomotives, rolling stock, buildings and landscapes that I would expect to see on the rails today. .

3. The Transition Era is that period between the 1940s and 1950s when both steam and diesel locomotives traveled the rails as steam was phased out and diesel was introduced. The transitional era is best for modelers who want to run steam and diesel engines on the same true-to-prototype tracks; in short, modelers who want the best of both worlds.

As you’re considering your vintage choice, you may want to keep in mind the availability of material for different eras at hobby retailers and online. There tends to be a lot more modern rolling stock and mockups available to the consumer than there were in the steam age, and often at much lower prices as well. Even train sets, which can be a great source of inexpensive locomotives and rolling stock, are often from the modern era. Even secondhand markets like eBay and flea markets tend to have a lot more modern-era items available.

You’ll also want to consider how much of a model train stickler you want to be. While many railway modelers start out happy by mixing elements from many different eras, such as combining steam locomotives with today’s diesel locomotives, many people in the hobby tend to become more of a purist as they grow in skill and enthusiasm. Call it “prototyping fever”: modelers who catch it end up becoming increasingly interested in modeling a particular era to the exclusion of others. They discover that their 1930s logging railway just doesn’t look right with a 21st century diesel locomotive running on its tracks. So if you end up with a design that isn’t set to the era you want, you’ll have to take out and replace the elements that don’t fit, costing you time and money.

Model Train Configuration: Once you’ve chosen an era, you can start looking at setting up your design. With the Steam era, you can choose from a wide range of settings including, for example, the Rocky Mountains with lots of mountains and trees. Or you could choose the Grasslands with lots of open spaces divided only by small farming towns. However, there is the Midwest with its largest cities and heavy industry. Or you can choose the Coast with small fishing villages and large ports. The configuration is quite unlimited and universal. Although the regions I have listed are more suitable for North American railroads, the same types of regions exist virtually anywhere in the world where rails have been laid.

Now, while you may want to try something quite unique for a design, keep cost and availability in mind. Narrow gauge designs, for example, while impressive to see and operate, take a lot of time, effort and money to set up. The more conventional setups are cheaper and easier for beginners to model. When you are starting and learning the hobby, avoid spending too much money if you don’t have to.

Operating style:

The most important factor when choosing your design theme is your operating style.

By operating style, I mean the aspects of the hobby that you actually enjoy the most. If you really enjoy set building, then your model railway should give you plenty of opportunities to display your set. On the other hand, if you really like to couple trains and switch tracks, then you really should look for a yard module, with lots of tracks, rolling stock, and switches. And if you like to operate your model railway the same way a real railway would, and play with things like timetables and “quick clocks”, then you should consider putting lots of model industries, sidings and destinations for your trains.

Now, I’ve talked about cost when choosing an era and configuration for your design, but I’m going to suggest that you give cost less priority when it comes to operating style. Your operating style is the reason you are in the hobby. Plaster is cheaper than tracks, but heavy scenery modeling may not hold the same appeal to someone who is genuinely interested in establishing and operating a rail yard. And if you’re not going to enjoy a particular operating style, why?

Hobbies are supposed to be fun. Yes, keep an eye on your budget when you’re starting out, but at the same time make sure that the reason you got into model trains in the first place is also your guide in choosing your model train design theme.

Now, once you’ve considered your desired era, setting, and operating style, you’ve narrowed it down and can move on to more detailed planning. Keep working on your theme and refining it until you have a good vision of what you want your model railroad to be.

Gold is not dead.

Ask Germany.

Germany’s Bundesbank recently announced that it has completed the transfer of $13 billion worth of gold bullion that had been stored in vaults under Lower Manhattan, bringing the metal back home. The country had started repatriating its gold in 2013 with the goal of once again storing 50% of its reserves in Frankfurt.

When the gold transfer is complete, Germany will have withdrawn all the gold it was storing in Paris, leaving only 13% of its reserves in London and about a third of its reserves in New York.

With the rise of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and digital cash like PayPal, Apple Pay, and other apps, there has been a steady drop in the use of physical cash, making the yellow metal feel downright archaic.

But gold has a special status, stronger than even the pair of twenties in your wallet right now. The precious metal offers a cloak of security and protection. It is considered more reliable than any government-issued currency.

Just look at the euro, a currency for a union of countries that threatens to tear itself apart. (Germany certainly feels better having its golden home back.)

Or even the US dollar, a currency backed by approximately $20 trillion in debt.

Gold is not only alive and kicking, but should play an important role in your portfolio…

Let me start with this: I am not a lover of gold.

I am a trader first and foremost, and usually with a short time frame as my goal. I was raised on the versatility of options and quick trading for good profits. I don’t care if the market is bullish, bearish, or, I shudder to think of it, range bound. There is always a way to profit if you know where to look.

But gold is a tricky thing.

It does not pay dividends, so there is an opportunity cost associated with the metal.

However, when there is market uncertainty, shaky economic growth or geopolitical discord, gold shines like a safe haven in the storm. When stocks are taking a beating, investors will look to gold as a safe way to store some of their dollars rather than just convert it to cash and tuck it under their mattresses.

And going by the way that gold has been trading, it seems that many investors are not too sure about this market rally.

The hedge

In 2016, the price of gold rose more than 8%, almost keeping pace with the stock market, as the S&P 500 gained 9.5%.

In fact, the World Gold Council reported that demand for gold rose 2% in 2016 to 4,309 tonnes, marking a new three-year high.

And with less than two months into the new year, gold is up another 8%, outpacing the S&P’s gain of about 5%, which is remarkable.

When stocks are strong and investors believe in a market rally, they are happy to ditch gold for high-flying stocks that promise much better performance.

For example, during the dot-com bubble, the S&P 500 rallied from January 1995 to September 2000 by more than 200%. By contrast, gold wobbled 27% over that same time period.

Or look at the market rally from October 2012 to January 2016, when the S&P 500 gained 37% while the yellow metal fell 35%.

In short, when times are good, gold is the forgotten child that is left in the doldrums until it can learn to play nice with the other assets.

And when times are bad, gold is the prodigal offering security and protection.

So if the stock market is trading at all-time highs and regularly setting new records, why does gold still shine as the favorite?

The financial market has its fair share of potential hurdles that could bring the whole thing crashing down. Let’s see a quick list:

  • Stocks are overvalued. We recently explained that by traditional measures, stocks are painfully overvalued and we are preparing for a mean reversion.

  • Washington in crisis. Our new president has promised a series of extreme measures that could have significant repercussions for both the US and global markets that could start with a sharp slowdown in earnings.

  • The next exit in Europe. The EU and the UK are stumbling through Brexit and the next major elections: Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and France. Also, Europe’s growth has been largely overlooked by many investors and could become the next hot trade as they tire of the drama in the US.

  • The nightmare of derivatives. The United States is facing a collapse that could rival the fallout from the housing debacle, as the top five US banks have loaded up on interest-rate-linked derivatives.

  • The Fed’s wild card. The latest transcripts from the Federal Open Market Committee meeting revealed that the Federal Reserve is looking to raise interest rates “quite soon.” Higher interest rates will suck money out of the economy as it costs more to service our growing debt. Higher interest rates also tend to squash stock market rallies.

Investors are watching these issues closely, hoping that one or more of them will throw stocks off their current course.

Your disaster insurance

Of course, this does not mean that the market is going to fall off a cliff tomorrow.

I think the one quote every speculator is hit over the head with is: “The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.”

In short, just because a stock or index has risen to all-time highs doesn’t mean it can’t continue to rise, even if it doesn’t make logical sense to you and me.

But it doesn’t hurt to have a hedge to protect yourself when it all comes crashing down.

Gold remains the perfect hedge: your insurance against the Federal Reserve, Washington, reckless banks, Europe, and even that black swan that hasn’t made it onto our radar yet. That’s why gold continues to shine as the favorite even during stock market highs this year: investors know they need a safe haven, just in case.

Physical gold is your best option instead of investing in “paper gold” such as exchange traded funds.

No matter how you choose to add physical gold to your portfolio, the important thing is that it’s there, ready to be your safe haven when it all falls apart.

Stream video from the internet to your TV? Why not: It’s better than cable, and it’s getting better every day!

Probably the most popular streaming devices available today are Apple TV and Roku.

Roku, in its recent third incarnation, looks cooler than ever: A vastly improved new interface and five times faster processor speed make Roku 3 faster and more responsive than any other video streaming box on the market.

Roku’s sleek new interface makes the competition seem almost dated; however, Apple TV still works best within the Apple ecosystem (no surprises!). Also, if you’re looking to buy the player that’s best suited for streaming your personal collection of digital media, Apple TV is a better option.

The Roku Streaming Player 3 is easy to set up, even for those of us who feel a bit apprehensive when first faced with a new tech device.

Roku 3 features over 700 channels: Netflix, Amazon Instant, HBO Go, Vudu, Hulu Plus, Spotify, Pandora, MLB.TV, Amazon Cloud Player, just to name the most recognizable names. However, you’ll probably be disappointed to learn that there’s still no official YouTube channel in the offing.

All those channels are neatly arranged in a grid, so switching between services or scrolling through menus is quick and easy.

If you’re looking for any digital title or actor, for example, you can type their name into the new cross-platform search – it’ll search the entire multitude of channels it supports and tell you where to find it. ‘What are you looking for.

There’s also a “private viewing” or “silent” option, thanks to an innovative remote with built-in headphone jack, so you can watch without disturbing others by plugging the included in-ear headphones directly into the remote. The remote itself is improved: mount it wherever you want, because it can work without you pointing it at the device.

With the new Roku 3 you can also share photos via Facebook, Flickr and Picasa, or play games thanks to the recently redesigned motion remote mentioned above.

Roku supports 1080p HD, dual-band wireless, an Ethernet port, a USB port, and a microSD slot.

Of course, the quality of the video will vary depending on the speed of your existing Internet connection (which can also vary during the course of the day).

It’s a small but mighty device; relatively cheap. Apple, your move!

With all the new video streaming possibilities these devices provide, maybe it’s time to say goodbye to your cable or satellite bills!

Snowboard Rossignol

Rossignol is one of the leading snowboard equipment and clothing brands. The company, based in Isere, France, began as a manufacturer of alpine ski equipment and was started by Abel Rossignol in 1907. Abel Rossignol was a carpenter but also an avid skier. He made his first wooden ski in 1907 and the Rossignol brand was born.

The company began to gain worldwide recognition when Frenchman Emile Allais won the triple world championship at the 1937 World Championships in Chamonix, France using Rossignol skis. He was a Triple winner topping the Downhill, Slalom and Combined events, an achievement that in many ways had started the emergence of the Rossignol brand in the world market. Henri Oreiller’s triumph at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, riding Rossignol Olympic 41 skis, solidified Rossignol’s name in the public consciousness.

The company’s next milestone came at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, California, USA, when Jean Vuarnet of France became Olympic downhill champion while using the world’s first metal skis: the All the 60s. The Company’s first fiberglass skis, the Strato, were released in 1964. The Company branched out into snowboards in 1987.

Rossignol is a company that has always been known for its innovative technology that continues to this day. Its pioneering technologies continue to drive the excellence and high performance of the Company’s snowboards. Rossignol uses Amptek, Magne-Traction and MagTek technologies in the manufacture of its snowboards.

AmpTek Technology

The word AmpTek means amplifier technology. AmpTek, which as the name implies, amplifies everything a cyclist does while riding. It improves stability at high speed and gives the snowboard a good grip in the snow while softening landings. Amptek also makes way for higher ollies, making for a more exciting ride. By combining traditional camber underfoot with early rise rocker in the tip and tail, AmpTek delivers remarkable pop, sustained energy and firm edge hold in harder snow while delivering superb maneuverability and increased floatation.

AmpTek has three categories of snowboards: AmpTek Freestyle, AmpTek All Mountain, and AmpTek Autoturn.

AmpTek Freestyle is available on the following boards: Retox AmpTek, Diva MagTek, and Jibsaw MagTek

Amptek All Mountain is available in the following boards: One MagTek, Krypto MagTek, Angus AmpTek, Taipan AmpTek, and Circus AmpTek

AmpTek Autoturn comes in the following boards: Alias AmpTek, Trickstick AmpTek, Myth AmpTek, and District AmpTek.

Magnetic traction technology

Magne-Traction technology basically corrects the problem with a conventional snowboard: losing control of the board when riding in icy conditions. Invented by Mervin Manufacturing, magnetic traction gives boards edge bumps that provide more points of contact with the ice rather than just the tip and tail. This gives riders more stability as they slide across the snow at high speed. Magne-Traction snowboards have seven points of contact, while traditional snowboards only have two. These additional contact points give you a more enjoyable ride without compromising the necessary ease and high performance.

Magne-Traction is available on the following snowboards: Experience MagTek, Diva MagTek, Jibsaw MagTek, and Krypto MagTek.

MagTek Technology

MagTek is a pioneering combination of AmpTek and Magne-Traction technologies, each of which is an award winner in its own right. The fusion of Amptek camber and Magne-Traction edges gives riders an industry leading board. This combination promotes better control and more grip for increased stability while maximizing edge pressures between feet. MagTek is available in Experience MagTek, Jibsaw MagTek, Krypto MagTek, One MagTek, and Diva MagTek.

What are the real reasons for erectile dysfunction in young men?

A John Hopkins research showed that much more than 18% of young men over the age of 20 experienced erectile dysfunction.

The most likely elements causing this are lifestyle choices and a carefree attitude towards your health and well-being. Many young people usually do not spend a lot of time planning what they are going to eat.

Nor are they aware of the enormous benefits of a good, uninterrupted night’s sleep. Highly refined foods comprise the majority of their dietary intake and they tend to consume alcohol to excess and some make frequent use of illicit drugs.

Main reasons given for erectile dysfunction in young men

* Substantial tuxedo
* Regular consumption of alcohol
* Use of narcotic substances
* Being overweight
* Strain
* Low self-esteem
*Remorse
* major depression
* Performance anxiety

Many young men choose Viagra without a prescription and use it as a recreational drug to increase sexual performance.

A study carried out revealed why young men use erectile dysfunction drug treatments to increase sexual performance.

Most of those who used erectile dysfunction medications said they did so to overcome the negative effect that illicit drugs and alcohol can have on sex. More than 60% of those who used ED medications reported using alcohol, cannabis, crack and other recreational drugs.

Unfortunately, they have a skewed perspective of how they should be involved in a relationship, convinced that the sexual act is the “beginning and the end” of the relationship. Missing out entirely on the emotional warmth and passionate intimacy of a shared encounter.

substance abuse – Extreme use of drugs or alcohol, including pharmaceuticals, can lead to erectile dysfunction, along with a downward spiral in your health. Drug and alcohol abuse can also cause blues, anxiety, and many other health-related complications.

Another study conducted revealed why young men use erectile dysfunction drug treatments to increase sexual performance.

emotional elements y Common emotional causes of erectile dysfunction in young men may include low self-esteem, anxiety, tension, guilt, depressive disorder, or panic about erectile failure. Other factors may be performance anxiety in younger guys who are virgins or in a new romance, or trying to compare themselves to actors in porn movies.

Strain it is one of the main culprits that triggers erectile dysfunction. Worry surrounds much of our daily lives and can be attributed to current economic situations, job uncertainty, financial commitments, and various other personal issues.

depressant The disorders are becoming much more numerous among young men compared to the past. Constant emotional stress results in the use of antidepressants and are recognized to reduce sexual interest. Mastering relaxation strategies is often a healthy, drug-free strategy to help reduce anxiety and increase sexual performance. People have this concept these days that almost everything is so tense right now, it can have a huge impact on one’s sexual health. Young people in general need to learn how to better manage stress in today’s fast-paced lifestyle.

The most common treatment method for erectile dysfunction is small, expensive pills that are used with or without a prescription. Most of these are all drugs that work by stopping the chemical “PDE5”. This is an effective medication for almost anyone with the problem, but it can have uncomfortable side effects. such as:

  • A sudden and unsafe drop in blood pressure
  • Vision loss or vision problems
  • Hearing loss without warning
  • Headaches, stomach ache

Also, it is simply a treatment, and never a cure for the condition.

Drug costs are high, which can often prove costly over time. The user will trust the drug and should continue to receive and use it indefinitely.

Youths you should be looking into programs that actually help get rid of this condition without the need for expensive and sometimes risky medications and herbal capsules.

But most young men cringe at the thought of seeing a therapist and talking about their own lovemaking problems. Fortunately, there are established procedures available that can be done in the privacy of your own home.

Turning a spare time activity or passion into a full time profession could be a dream job and Android Game Development could be one of them. Android game developers come up with the best ideas and create an explicit playing field. There are multiple categories based on age groups, types, mode of payment, and more. A huge crowd is always drawn to the free games on the Play Store. The growing Android market and recent technological advances have made the possibilities of the Android gaming market even higher. Also, game lovers and developers can choose between 2D or 3D. There is also a wide variety to choose from, from simple to strategy, arcade, racing and even board games, all with single and multiplayer modes.

When a developer has confirmed an Android platform for their games, there are three things they need to consider the most and they include:

Character modeling for 3D games: Characters created for 3D must have a unique character distinction. The character requires specific features like facial expressions, signature style, unique costume designs, etc. All of these traits create an identity for the character designed in the game.

Screen Size – Screen size plays a vital role and a major factor in the success rate. When developing a game for smartphones, the developer must remember this restriction, which varies from mobile device to mobile device. By enhancing the appropriate scaling ratios in the application with the correct encoding process, popularity increases.

Improved Gameplay Scenario: Grab effects can be increased with your total skin. The ultimate look provides sensation and builds success.

Some of the most important aspects that an Android game developer should check are:

– Game scenario: The scenario elevates the whole feeling and the developer should give special importance to this section. Landscape features and terrain optimization should have the same importance as characters.

– Game Programming: The requirement for an outstanding user interface and challenging modes or levels should be there. These details will enhance your build as a commercial success.

– The most important thing is that the rankings of each game maintain its success rate. Based on the rating, it will appear on the front pages of the Play Store. If players cannot be provided with the specific interest factor, it may affect the review as well as your success.

Every time the holidays roll around, stores start putting up decorations that encourage consumers to shop. Christmas village scenes are one of the most popular collectibles among consumers, and it’s something you can cultivate over time and pass down to your heirs.

Miniature Christmas village scenes are very warm and inviting and can be placed around your home or gathered in one place for visitors and guests to admire. Although they may vary in the era portrayed, each one will transport you to a winter wonderland in an instant.

Some of the Christmas villages you can buy are animated, and you’ll see kids ice skating around a sparkling blue pond while Christmas music plays softly in the background. Others may show a sleigh going around a snowy mountain with bells sounding from the horses.

These vacation villages often have many different elements. There are houses with smoke coming out of the chimney and a scene that can be seen through the window of a family gathering to carry on the traditions.

You can start with a single town scene and add a new one to it every year. You can buy the Ebenezer Scrooge House or a collection of Christmas cabins that reproduce Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas.

Some of the Christmas villages are ancient in nature and take you back to the good old days, while others are more modern in style. Most are porcelain materials, so you should be very careful not to let children play with them roughly, but there are also sets that are made of less brittle materials.

One of the most popular village scenes is from the movie A Christmas Story. You can shop for the Bumpus house, Ralphie in the snow, and even the department store where he professes his desire for a Red Rider BB gun at the Santa shop.

These collectible decor items are priceless because they take you to a different world and start a new family tradition. They often end up being worth quite a bit over time as well. Show them off in your unique way.

As an example, I just found this illuminated Christmas village, shown on the right, wrapped around a tabletop tree (and, big surprise, I just had to have it). Beautifully designed, I also took a close up photo for you. Illuminated tree village.

Some people place artificial snow under and around the scene to offset it with other decorations in the house. One woman used her fireplace with a glass shade to turn on a dim light that illuminated her treasured town scene. The possibilities are limitless!

There are numerous applications for the phone that will make the actor’s life easier. Knowledge of these tools can increase the efficiency of learning the trade and improve marketing efforts. This article highlights what basic types of apps are available as well as the benefits and caveats of using them.

The life of an actor is in constant motion. With workshops, auditions, rehearsals, interviews and photo shoots, staying in touch and being prepared demands new tools. Phone apps have made life easier for the actor with easily available background information, apprenticeship programs, and job listings. When installed on your iPhone or Android, multitasking is possible.

Let’s say you have an audition for a role in a movie or television. You can display the credits of a director you’re auditioning for or a list of movies or clients represented by the casting director. Having this information readily available allows you to authenticate your listeners and have talking points that enliven the interview. The most frequent database is IMDb. In the pro version, it is possible to obtain contact information for these people for follow-up efforts.

Learning lines or rehearsing without a partner is another task actors face. There are numerous rehearsal or teleprompter apps that allow you to learn your lines in multiple ways; visually, orally or in peekaboo blackout mode. You can open your scripts directly from the email you receive them in, or work with PDF and Word files you get from your computer. In most apps, you can record your lines and play them back, watch the script scroll like a teleprompter, and fast rewind or fast forward to retrieve lines simply by scrolling the script. In some apps, time stamps can be added to break longer passages into manageable times and, depending on the device, create “margin notes” regarding choices, appearance, or gestures. In more expensive apps, the announcer can audition for voice-over jobs from anywhere and email their auditions as MP3 files from anywhere to anyone. These rehearsal apps allow you to rehearse anywhere without a partner. Rehearsal 2 and Scene Partner are common apps in this category.

Some apps are informative, empowering, and educational for those interested in pursuing a career in the film and television business. One of them is Actor Genie, whose website lists resources for keeping track of what’s being cast. These resources include audition and casting links like Actors Access, LA Casting, and Backstage Magazine.

Keeping track of daily appointments, events, and reminders other to-do apps can do. With such an app, you can organize and keep track of auditions. You can also keep track of meetings, workshops, networking opportunities, and more. AuditionCal and iPerform are similar apps in this category and can help restore order to a chaotic life.

If you live in Los Angeles, you have to deal with freeway congestion and limited parking. The Sigalert app offers detailed highway speed information along with reports on accidents, construction, and traffic jams. The Polis Assist app helps clear up difficult and confusing parking signs on a particular street. It will also alert you before your parking times expire and automatically check you in at the end of your park so you can avoid parking tickets.

There are, of course, a multitude of apps available for actors and this article covers the most basic needs. Finding more apps or finding where to download them is a problem, since most are only available for certain types of phones or their operating system. The three most common platforms are iPhone, Android, and Windows. Apple Store/iTunes handles almost all apps for iPhone (iOS). Android apps are mostly found on Google Play. And Windows apps are available from the Microsoft Store/Windows Phone Store. Amazon Appstore is an alternative app store for the Android operating system.

When determining which apps are best for you, Google the general category and look at the selection of apps available and their specifications. For example, essay or teleprompter applications is a category to help with dialog memorization. Audition Appointment/Organizer/Calendar Apps is another category used to schedule and remind you of events. There are also applications that inform, empower and educate those who seek the business and trades/acting techniques. Compare, read reviews and watch installation and operation videos when available. Please note that certain apps are only available for certain operating systems, be it iOS or Android.

Prices, benefits, and terms are also considerations. Costs can range from free to $0.99 up to $24.00. Benefits to consider are ease of operation, range of features, and relevance to your needs. Some free apps may require an update at a nominal cost. Most applications do not have an expiration date, although some may have an automatic monthly or annual renewal. This is a subject to watch closely.

Another problem, does the application need an Internet connection to be operational or does it work independently within the phone? When you are out of signal range this can be a problem. The term “application” is shorthand for “application software.” As such, mobile apps can pose a significant security risk, transferring unprotected sensitive data to the Internet without users’ knowledge and consent. Data theft is not just the loss of confidential information, one can be vulnerable to cyber attacks or blackmail. Malicious software can access a device’s SMS messages, browsing history, or voicemail password.

When it comes to security, Apple approves iOS apps through a strict vetting process before listing them on the App Store, while Google’s Android Market app security involves simply warning the user that an app needs permissions to perform certain functions during installation. To avoid problems in the future, it is advisable to avoid third-party providers and instead opt for reputable outlets such as the App Store, Google Play, and Microsoft Store.

By using apps or your phone in general, one can use up a large number of minutes on your plan. One way to combat this problem is to search for locations with a Wi-Fi connection. Places like coffee shops, certain restaurants, or your local library can fill this need. Also, look online for Creative Spaces that offer free wi-fi. An added benefit, using wi-fi generally results in faster transaction speeds. It’s also best to disable data-sucking apps you don’t use often, as automatic updates can wreak havoc on your data usage. Update only when connected to wi-fi.

This article covers some of the benefits of acting apps. However, there are also several caveats about using these apps. The main one is the tendency to become obsessed with their characteristics and therefore neglect their main functions, in order to facilitate the perfection of the trade and the promotion of talents. Too often, users get infatuated with bells and whistles and forget that these are tools, not toys. Another caveat, these apps tend to inhibit personal interaction and instead promote digital encounters. Acting is a face-to-face occupation, whether in networking, job hunting, or performance. While apps can ease this transition, they should never replace it. And finally there are security issues. Keep your mind and eyes on the task at hand, whether you’re getting into an elevator, crossing the street, or driving to your next audition. There’s an application for that. Is named turn off your phone.
