Month: July 2023

I estimate that I spend about 60-70% of my workday looking at my computer screen. At this point, you could be forgiven for thinking I’m gleefully engaged by watching some rather silly cat videos on YouTube and Daily Motion, or even happily disconnecting from the world by torrenting a movie or music video. Unfortunately, however, that is not the case. No sir! You see, my older laptop is now a heavy, slow beast, and it has developed a digital version of Alzheimer’s disease (or was it rheumatism in fact? I really couldn’t be sure at this point) in its old age.

Anyway, it was time to send my old laptop over to Knacker’s Yard and go ahead and buy a new laptop. With this intention, I searched for various machines on the internet and in the end decided to buy an Apple MacBook Air online. This seemed to me the best machine, and I’ll tell you why.

Well, one of the reasons that seriously influenced my decision to buy an Apple MacBook Air online was the fact that it was incredibly portable and lightweight compared to the other machines out there. This is especially true if you’re used to the MacBook Pros of yesteryear, like I am. I travel quite a bit so this machine was perfect for me! Also, I got mine with four gigs of RAM, and it’s really smooth and lightning fast!

Plus, it’s packed with flash memory, wakes up like a dream, and has incredible battery life that lets me do whatever I want during my workday. Plus, when you buy a 13-inch Apple MacBook Air online, you can be sure that it also comes with a full-size keyboard, an incredible new multi-touch trackpad, and offers amazing graphics performance for such a lightweight beast, too. I felt the price was right too, and it didn’t dent my bank account as much as I thought it would!

Another great thing about buying an Apple MacBook Air online (or any other Mac machine) is that you almost never need antivirus software. This is a game changer in my opinion and a huge plus as antivirus software tends to turn your business machine into a slow and lethargic workhorse.

If you’re in the market for a new laptop, I highly recommend taking a safe bet and buying an Apple MacBook Air online. Also, now that you’ve decided to buy a MacBook Air, you better pick it up at Zoffio.com, like I did. This site offers great deals and such a fast delivery service, and you can hardly do better than buy an Apple MacBook Air online on the site!

A mass marriage generally means an affair by either spouse, which need not be the case in many cases. A marriage becomes crowded when there is an external factor that intrudes on the couple’s privacy. This factor could be interfering with the in-laws on both sides or it could be an obsessive preoccupation with work (overly ambitious or workaholic) or it could be simple indifference. Very often it is the apathy on the part of both spouses and their lack of investment of time in the relationship that explains an invisible presence responsible for the failure of a marriage.

Vijayan and Madhavi is a newly married couple living with their parents. Madhavi is annoyed that Vijayan comes home late every day and complains that he would rather spend more time with her parents than with her.

She complains, “Her excuse is that before the marriage she had not spent enough time with her parents because of work. If that was the case, why did she want to get married? She should have spent her time with her parents instead of getting married and neglecting me.” She has a point.

Vijayan’s apprehensive is that his parents will feel abandoned if he spends time alone with her. While her fears are appreciated, Vijayan must realize that his newlywed wife needs privacy and attention during the initial stage. This does not mean having a separate bedroom. She needs to feel safe and loved and that means spending more time without distractions.

Marriage is a lifelong commitment between two unrelated people united except by marriage. So the relationship is definitely more special and should be given that important place. This does not mean that you have to relegate other relationships to the background. It is about the sanctity of marriage and by extension the wife who automatically takes first place by virtue of the piety of the relationship.

Rajeev and Latha are successful in their respective careers. They are a safe couple. But both are unhappy. The reason is that their busy careers are taking them away from each other. When Rajeev is in town, Latha is out with a project and vice versa. They both have no time to spend with each other and their respective work takes precedence over everything else. Both are reluctant to give up their lucrative careers. Work has made your marriage too overloaded to exclude everything else in your life, including having children. So much so that they have reached a point of no return.

While it is important to have a successful career, it is just as important, if not more so, to have a fruitful married life. If the couple had decided not to have children, it would not have been a problem. However, they both want children but do not want to sacrifice their careers to plan for a child. The biggest stress factor in having a child takes its toll on them and proves otherwise.

Now what do you want? They have to make a choice. Rajeev and Latha need to make a choice, and that choice may require a great sacrifice from one or both parties. The question is: are they willing to go the extra mile?

To avoid overcrowding, it is imperative to provide space in the marriage. It is not about having a bedroom of your own or being indifferent leading parallel lives, it is about giving space for both of you to grow independently and also inclusively so that the relationship becomes something wonderful to cherish. A relationship for posterity, after all, that’s what marriage is all about: a lifelong commitment!

The north south hemisphere question:

The question of whether or not the orientation of Lo Pan, Lo Shu should be reversed when applied to the southern hemisphere has been questioned for years, so let’s consider the excellent arguments put forward at Qi Concepts in the [http://www.dragonsbreath.co.uk]

Feng Shui originated in China between 3,000 and 5,000 years ago. China is a vast country, yet its location is entirely in the Northern Hemisphere, with no part closer than 18 degrees north of the equator. There are no authentic historical data, nor are there any records on the application of the Feng Shui theory in the Southern Hemisphere. The evidence simply isn’t there, so unfortunately we have to debate the issue, postulate our theories, and make our own decision about what we feel comfortable with. Certainly, if you live near the equator, you should be aware of the difference between the geographic equator and the magnetic equator, as I have already pointed out in the previous section. The difference can be quite considerable as much as 12? of latitude which is 720 nautical miles or 828 statute if you like.

Isogonic graphs show the magnetic flux. It can vary from 0° to 30°. Interestingly, the large area over China has no magnetic variation. This diagram is only to illustrate the variation in flow. For a good example of an isogonic graph, visit the British Geological Society website

If you look at the earth, can you see that the earth’s axis is tilted at an angle of 23.5? the plane of its orbit around the sun is called the ecliptic. It maintains this inclination by pointing rigid and parallel to the same point in space towards the Star Polaris. If the angle of the Earth’s axis remained perpendicular to the plane of the Sun, then the Sun would be on the equator at all times. However, this is not the case and we are stuck the way it is.

The Earth revolves around the sun in 365 days. The sun’s apparent motion crosses to the north side of the equator for about six months, peaking on the summer solstice on June 21, over the Tropic of Cancer, where it reaches its maximum declination* North around 23? North. It then begins to decline and crosses over to the south side of the equator crossing the point of Libra around September 21. It continues its southward loop until it is over Capricorn around December 22, the winter solstice, where it is at its lowest point to the west. (Reverse for the S hemisphere) It should be clear by now how the seasons are formed. (*the angular distance of the sun north or south of the equator)

From this model, we can see that most people in China lived above the 22nd parallel north latitude. This means that your view of the sun, from north central China’s Quinghai province, for example, on June 21 would have been rising to the east and northeast at about 064? True (24°N of E).

The sun would cross the sky, reaching its maximum height of 74? at noon, when heading south, and moving across the westward sky, where it sets west-northwest about 290?True (16°N of W)

Now if we consider the fact that the first school of Feng Shui was the Form School Feng Shui, which supposedly predates the compass by at least 2,000 years and was concerned with landscape surveying using the configuration of the four celestial animals, we can see that a pattern is formed.

We have at Chinese Form School an arrangement that naturally faces the Sun/South of noon, our greatest source of energy and ultimate Yang. the source of our heat and light. This is the Phoenix facing Red/Orange its element is Fire like the rising and setting of the Sun. It is natural that this is the direction that the Yang rooms of a house should face. These would be the most active and used rooms during the day.

They would be the most open rooms with the largest windows The entrance hall, the living room, the family room, the conservatory, the patio, the terrace,

The tortoise is north behind us giving us protection. Blue/Black/Yin Cold and dark like the long northern nights. The Black Turtle historically represents the shady side of the hill. It makes sense that this direction with the least amount of light, the smallest windows and being the most Yin would be considered the most suitable for the Yin rooms of the house, such as the bedrooms, bathrooms, bathrooms, storage rooms.

The Blue/Green Dragon, the color of the eastern plains and the China Sea, is to the left/East and the rising Sun. Its wood element is expansive and represents the growth of spring and the dawn of each new morning. This area is conducive to a kitchen that is yang but less yang than south and good for breakfast, if there is a garden then this is an area for a kitchen garden or vegetable garden, especially if they can face south.

The white tiger to the right/west, towards the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas and the setting sun. its metal element is representative of contraction and autumn is yin, feminine, conservative and protective by nature. This is also a good area for children’s bedrooms and nursery, especially for the youngest daughter.

It’s relatively easy to see how and why the ancient Chinese set up their houses to face in these directions. This configuration is as relative to homes in the Northern Hemisphere today as it was to China 5,000 years ago. If we had the option of building our perfect house, this would be the configuration we would probably choose, for sure.

The energy pattern and apparent motion qualities of the sun in the Northern Hemisphere as viewed from the North Pole are clockwise. Similarly, the main ocean currents and the main air currents, the trade winds and the monsoons, circulate in a clockwise direction.

(The world weather chart for July in Admiralty Navigation Directions NP136 is an excellent illustration.)

In harmony with the laws of nature; and therefore the balance, the Yin and the Yang. The opposite exists in the southern hemisphere. Although the Sun will continue to rise in the East, the apparent movement of the Sun as seen from the Southern Hemisphere is counterclockwise. The main currents and air currents are counterclockwise. The Sun, the main source of energy, is to the North and the cold darkness and shadows are to the South. The four seasons are not reversed, i.e. fall, summer, spring and winter, as is often said, but rather complement their opposites, spring and fall, summer and winter, fall and spring, winter and summer. The wave patterns are cyclical, alternating but equal in frequency and amplitude, providing dynamic balance and overall harmony. Common sense dictates that you would not choose to build a house facing the cold south of Yin, the dark side of the hill in the southern hemisphere.

There are a number of other very powerful phenomena and examples in nature that reinforce the idea that orientations are reversed in the southern hemisphere and that we should observe our surroundings and pay attention and listen to nature and our surroundings. Isn’t that what Feng Shui is all about?

  • The rotation of the earth when viewed from above the North Pole is clockwise.
  • The rotation of the earth when viewed from above the South Pole is counterclockwise.
  • The Corriolis force is reversed from one hemisphere to the other.
  • Ocean currents change their direction of flow when they cross the equator.
  • Weather Systems Tornadoes and storms rotate in opposite directions in each hemisphere.
  • Trade winds change their circulation as they cross the equator from one hemisphere to another.
  • The huge upper air masses warm and expand and rise above the equator diverging toward the poles. Yang
  • The huge upper air masses cool and sink converging at the poles, Yin.
  • The four seasons are opposite.
  • Plants and trees lean towards the sun, the source of all energy, the ultimate yang.
  • The further north or south you travel as you approach the poles, the speed of the earth’s rotation reduces the speed of Yin.
  • The closer you get to the equator, the faster the Yang rotation will be.
  • The further north or south you travel as you get closer to the poles, the earth becomes colder, darker, calmer, Yin.
  • The closer you get to the equator, the brighter, warmer, more alive, more exuberant and more animated, more Yang.

Crunches are a classic exercise, long considered an indicator of overall fitness and the standard when it comes to shaping your midsection or abs. You probably know that burning excess calories is the key to losing weight, no matter what exercises you choose. So how many calories do crunches burn?

The Truth: How Many Calories Do Crunches Burn?

The simple answer to the question is “not many”. An accurate determination of the calories burned by any exercise can only be determined by taking into account a number of variables, including: weight, age, intensity, and current fitness levels, among others. So to give you a very rough estimate of the direct calories you could expect to burn doing sit-ups, it’s about 10 calories per minute of sit-ups. Considering that a pound of fat contains about 3,500 calories, it’s pretty easy to say that the calorie burn from this exercise won’t make much of a difference in your fat-loss effort.

Do you want to see your abs?

I’m going to assume that since you were asking about burning calories and abs, chances are you’re looking to firm your tummy, trim your waist a bit, or see your abs…

Since you’re considering calorie burning along with exercise, it means you’re at least on the right track. In order to see your abs, flatten your stomach, or make a real difference in the appearance of your body, you’ll need to lose some body fat. And, simply put, the only way to do that is to burn more calories than you consume.

The abs, however, are not the answer. Basically, you could do crunches all day long and that alone will do very little to make any significant progress toward actually displaying your abs.

    Bigger muscles burn more calories.

No, I’m not talking about big “bodybuilder” muscles (although they do require a lot of calories to maintain). I’m referring to the larger muscle groups in your body that, when activated, burn far more calories than smaller muscle groups, such as those activated by doing more specific ab exercises.

So by focusing your training and exercise efforts on exercises that use the larger muscle groups, like your legs and back, you’ll reap a much greater reward for every minute you spend exercising.

He thought he’d waited long enough at his friends’ house after the party, but the breathalyzer tells a different story: a DUI is in his immediate future. Maybe the jerk sitting next to you at the bar finally got under your skin and in a moment of weakness you lost your cool and now has an assault charge against you. No matter how he got to this point, you need to hire a criminal defense attorney. This can seem like a daunting task as being arrested is very intimidating and it is important to get the best legal representation possible.

Hopefully, these tips and pointers will guide you on the right path to hiring a lawyer to represent you well. When looking for a lawyer, keep the following in mind:

    1) Make sure the attorney you hire is experienced with your type of crime. Defending a felony possession of narcotics is very different than defending a DUI. When you interview a lawyer, be sure to ask how much experience they have with your type of case.

    2) Talk to your friends. You may know someone who has had to hire a criminal defense attorney. A referral is a great way to get to know a good lawyer, as the person who referred you can tell you how the lawyer fared on all aspects of the case.

    3) Any attorney you wish to hire should offer a free initial consultation. This could be 10 minutes on the phone if you are in custody or 30 minutes if you can meet with the attorney in person. Don’t hold back – be very direct and honest about your situation. Failure to provide a full disclosure may negatively affect your case and cause additional expenses. Beware of any attorney who does not provide a free initial consultation or require payment for this time.

    4) During the initial consultation, ask who will handle your case. Many high-profile criminal defense lawyers have their associates do all the work. You may be okay with this, but many people want the attorney they speak with to handle their case directly. In general, the better known the lawyer, the more likely he is to become less involved in your case.

    5) Make sure the terms of the commitment are clearly explained. Be sure to ask what the fees are for negotiating a plea agreement and anything else up to and including trial. Fees can vary drastically from attorney to attorney, and you can avoid a big surprise by asking about them up front. An upfront retainer fee is usually required after the initial consultation. This fee can be many thousands of dollars depending on the crime charged.

    6) Most importantly, make sure you feel comfortable with the attorney and the firm. You will be working with these people in a very intimate part of your life. Feeling insecure about the employment relationship will do nothing to help you or your mental health. Listen to your gut. If something feels wrong, keep looking for a lawyer until you’re sure you can feel completely comfortable with him or her.

At the very least, these tips should give you a starting point to start looking for an attorney to represent you professionally and effectively. If you have had an unfortunate encounter with the police, take the first step and call a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible.

In 1993, Kasparov came close to defending his world champion title against Nigel Short. The two players decided to organize the world championship without FIDE (Federation Internationale des Echecs or World Chess Federation). The chess world never got over this.

In 1991 Kasparov was the world champion and defended his title against Karpov. He didn’t have to defend his title before 1993. He didn’t crush his old rival as much as he wanted, but he kept the crown and that was what mattered. All he had to do was wait about two years while his opponents battled each other to find a challenger before he could once again prove who was the best.

Kasparov was the best at the time and it was easy to check. You just had to see his Elo rating from him. The year before, he broke the mythical ceiling of 2800. Even Fischer couldn’t do it (his highest Elo rating of him was 2785). World number two Anatoly Karpov was some 100 points behind Kasparov. That meant as big a margin between Kasparov and Karpov as it was between Karpov and the number 20 on the list. Kasparov had a pretty comfortable lead.

Between 1990 and 1993, Kasparov won almost every tournament he entered. He was in Linares, Tilburg, Dortmund and Amsterdam and always finished way ahead of all the other opponents. Obviously, Kasparov was aiming for an Elo rating of 2850. From time to time, Kasparov would lose a game or two, as if he didn’t want to discourage his opponents. He lost to the young Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk in Linares, in 1991, and in Paris, the same year, where the Dutch player Jan Timman almost dictated his game to Kasparov. So no one ever understood what happened to Kasparov.

The fight to find the would-be grandmaster had begun and some names from the interzonal games appeared: Anand, Ivanchuk and Guelfand, for example. Then an unexpected name appeared, the name of a young man few had thought of: it was former guitarist Nigel Short. The 27-year-old (who was just 19 when he became grandmaster) upset Karpov in the semifinal of the qualifying match. It was the first time in 15 years that Karpov had been knocked out of the final. Short then beat Timman in the final and became the official challenger.

In 1993, FIDE had been led by Philippin Florencion Campomanes in ten years. The time for the championship was approaching when the shocking news arrived: Short and Kasparov were leaving FIDE and had founded their own organization, the “Professional Chess Association” (PCA) in London. Times was funding it for £1.6 million (about $2.5 million). Short had contacts with Raymond Keene, a grandmaster turned businessman, who phoned Kasparov and convinced him to leave FIDE and organize the championship together. The only answer Short gave to the questions everyone asked him was “business is business.” Kasparov spoke some more. His idea was to see FIDE as an organization that decided how tournaments should be played, the rules, the ELO rating, but that the tournaments should be left in the hands of the PCA. It might have been possible if things had happened differently.

But in this situation, FIDE reacted quite violently: the two players were expelled from the association and removed from the official Elo list. A few months later, FIDE organized a championship between Anatoli Karpov and Jan Timman. So, by the end of 1993, the chess world had two world champions, Anatoli Karpov for FIDE and Garry Kasparov for PCA. The title remained divided for 13 years. In a 2007 interview, Kasparov called the break with FIDE the worst mistake of his career, as he hurt the game in the long run.

There has recently been a change to the standard process a bank would take to help a homeowner who was struggling with their mortgage payment.

Traditionally, in the past, a lender would only offer assistance to a borrower when their home loan became delinquent, a failure to pay the monthly loan payment for three or more consecutive months.

In a typical scenario like this, borrowers might be eligible for traditional loss mitigation methods if they’re lucky.

To clear up some terminology, let’s define loss mitigation as the process of working to stop or reduce any loss to the lender and borrower, in effect, damage control.

Under traditional foreclosure prevention guidelines, in order to receive assistance from a lender, a borrower would have to meet certain requirements.

One of the most important requirements is one where non-traditional methods offer some additional flexibility for struggling homeowners.

Under non-traditional methods, a homeowner does not have to default on their loan before they can receive assistance.

In the past, lenders told homeowners that they couldn’t offer any help until their loan was actually delinquent.

Another significant difference is the actual difficulty that caused the owner to be late. Under the traditional method, the borrower would have to return to work or have sufficient family income to receive assistance.

Under non-traditional foreclosure prevention methods, borrowers may receive a temporary grace period in the event they do not regain full employment.

Many lenders realized that certain occupations have a high probability of employment even though the borrower may be currently unemployed.

Of course, if there is always a downside.

The big problem with the relaxed guidelines is this…

Homeowners who are already in default on mortgage loans have priority over borrowers who are not in default. This results in a large number of both types of borrowers being left behind.

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows personal computers, laptops, cell phones, and other electronic devices to communicate with each other over short distances of approximately 10 meters to transfer information/files from one device to another. It uses radio waves and is designed to be a secure and inexpensive way to connect and exchange information between devices wirelessly.

The following are some of the most informative Bluetooth facts from the arsenal of thousands.

Fact #1: “Bluetooth” refers to Harold Blatand, who was the 10th century Danish king who unified the Norwegians and Danes.

Fact #2: The renowned Andretti Green Racing team communicated during the race using Bluetooth devices

Fact #3: According to a research, the users of this device were expected to increase to more than 1 billion by the year 2006.

Fact #4: Analysts predict that a third of all new cars in the world will have built-in wireless Bluetooth connections.

Fact #5: Hospitals are manufacturing and deploying a large number of the latest Bluetooth medical equipment to improve patient care.

Fact #6: The latest wireless enabled devices allow you to view images on your TV screen. This can be achieved using a laptop or mobile phone via wireless connection to a media viewer.

Fact #7: Printing can be done wirelessly now! One can send files to print from a Bluetooth-enabled computer or mobile device directly to the printer. There are also small home-use printers that simply print color images using wireless input from a cell phone or computer.

Fact #8: The latest multi-point pairing Bluetooth-enabled interface allows you to connect with more than one Bluetooth device, for example, your cell phone can be connected to a Bluetooth stereo headset and your computer at the same time

Fact #9: One of the fastest growing devices in “Bluetooth hands-free” and the second largest application overall, just behind hands-free is “stereo audio”.

Fact #10: Extensive use of Bluetooth is dangerous to health. Bluetooth uses microware radio waves with a frequency range of 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz and the output power of a Bluetooth radio is 100 mW, 2.5 mW, and 1 mW for Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 devices, respectively. Class 1 is almost on the same level as mobile phones, while Class 2 and Class 3 are much lower than Class 1 and are considered less dangerous than mobile phones.

Fact #11: It is expected that the future of Bluetooth will have data points for transmission channels, this will initiate the actual use of wireless connections within mobiles and enable advertising models based on users extracting information from data points, and not on the current model of limited object insertion. One of the best Bluetooth stereo headset companies that are expected to stand out in this field is Motorola and Blackberry.

Fact #12: The latest wireless communication devices can now play the role of “master” and can communicate with up to 7 devices as “slave”. This group of 8 devices (1 master + 7 slaves) is called Piconet. At any time, data can be transferred between the master and 1 slave; but the master quickly switches from slave to slave on a rotating basis to see if there are any more file transfer requests.
