How to get kids to eat healthy snacks and improve diet:

While it doesn’t take much to convince kids to hit the playground for their daily dose of physical activity, navigating nutritious food options can be easier said than done. Here are some tips and tricks that adults can consider.

Cut down on junk food, don’t cut it out.

Sugary and high-fat snacks tend to be popular with young children, so it can be tricky to ditch them completely. However, reducing the amount of junk food kids eat can keep them happy and free up room for healthier options like fruit slices, yogurt, vegetable sticks, and nuts.

Established standard snack times.

Another great way to keep kids on a beneficial diet plan is to set up regular snack times so kids aren’t always trying to steal a cookie or candy bar at odd hours. By allowing children to have a short snack at the end of the school day or mid-morning, you will help stave off hunger pangs without ruining their appetite. A nutritious snack can also keep a child’s metabolism strong and active, an important factor in combating obesity. .

Trick them into eating healthy food

Children can be picky about what foods they want to eat and when, so having flexible healthy snack options can help them eat well. For example, offering a delicious cup of yogurt with fruit will help them get the calcium and vitamins they need. Similarly, a fruit smoothie can be a nutritious alternative to chocolate milk or a can of soda. By disguising healthy foods as snacks, you can encourage kids to improve their diet in a fun and easy way.

Three preventive tips for childhood obesity:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity has more than tripled in the last three decades. In 1980, only 7 percent of children between the ages of 6 and 11 were classified as obese. In 2008, that percentage jumped to nearly 20 percent. As for children aged 12 to 19 years, obesity increased from 5 to 18 percent during the same period. For the sake of clarity, there is a difference between being characterized as obese and overweight. The CDC defines overweight as being overweight for a particular height due to fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these parts. Rather, obesity refers solely to having too much body fat. Both conditions present as a caloric imbalance, with not enough calories being burned through physical activity to make up for the calories consumed.

So what can you do to help prevent the spread of childhood obesity? Here are some tips to keep in mind when trying to get kids up and moving!

go out and play

First, it’s important for children to burn off the excess calories they consume during daily meals and snacks. However, emphasizing that just one obese child needs more physical activity can be alienating and discouraging, so it’s best to encourage all children, whether in a church group, family, or classroom, to spend more time running outside, participating in organized sports. or just playing in a playground.

Maintain weight through healthy eating.

While cutting greasy fast food and fatty snacks from obese children’s diets is vital, the focus should be on good health and not losing weight, notes the New York Department of Health. Maintaining their current weight will allow children to reach a healthy weight as they grow. Encouraging diets filled with fruits, vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy products, and healthy whole grains can put children on the right track.

cut sedentary time

Time spent in sedentary activities like surfing the Internet, watching TV, playing video games or just lounging indoors should be kept to a minimum to encourage kids to exercise, the CDC notes. Ideally, kids should get at least a half hour to an hour of physical activity four to five times a week, and limiting indoor fun will encourage kids to play on the playground equipment or start a ball game outside. .

Teaching children dietary tips and tricks for a healthy life:

It’s not just up to parents to control their children’s eating habits: children need to be involved in the conversation, too. So, in addition to allowing little ones to spend plenty of time on the playground equipment, here are some tips and tricks to teach kids to improve their eating habits.

Learning the importance of hydration

It’s no big secret that drinking plenty of water is important to living a healthy life, especially with children at peak development. But staying well hydrated is also important from a dietary standpoint. For starters, drinking water helps the body’s metabolism work effectively, so kids can burn calories from food throughout the day. A glass of water can also combat hunger pangs that can occur around meals. Encourage children to drink several glasses of water each day to keep their digestion in check.

Doing snack time right

Many schools have a snack time for hungry children. While this may seem like a bad idea from a nutritional standpoint, especially if the snacks consist of junk food and candy, it can actually be done in a way that benefits children. First, replacing cookies and chips with nutritious options like fruit slices, yogurt, and nuts can help kids get the nutrients they need. In addition, eating a small snack between meals can stimulate children’s metabolism,

resting enough

You may not think that sleep has anything to do with a healthy diet, but you would be wrong. Getting a full eight hours of sleep every night is important for a strong digestive system. Beyond that, being well-rested reduces overall stress and anxiety levels, which can severely affect your body’s ability to burn calories and convert food into energy.

Turning 100 is a momentous occasion. Less than 2% of the US population turned 100 years old. Planning a birthday celebration for any centennial requires sensitivity. It is very possible that they are frail and have mobility problems. The location of the party should take this into account.

Step 1. Discuss the party with the birthday celebrant. NEVER HAVE A SURPRISE PARTY for someone this age. Together, create an invitation list of friends and family.

Step 2. Learn all you can about the birthday celebrant. If she is in a wheelchair or sick, have the party at her house. If you live in a nursing home, please make arrangements with the manager for this very special event. You need to know about all allergies and limitations. For example, if you can’t hear, don’t spend money on music.

Step 3. Plan the meal. There may be rules to follow if you live in a nursing home. If you can hold the party in a private home, consider hiring a caterer. An alternative is to ask friends to bring a plate. The hostess provides only the birthday cake and drinks.

Use the dining table with its best linens and china for a smaller group. Many centenarians are especially fond of their possessions and will have fond memories at the dining room table with its beautiful china and silver.

Buffets will be difficult for older people. If there is a large group of guests, place the food on a buffet or dining table, but have helpers serve the seated elders, especially the birthday girl.

Step 4. Be sure to have a non-alcoholic punch or soft drink, as the celebrant or older guests may need to avoid mixing alcohol with medication.

Step 5. Bake your favorite birthday cake. Top it with HAPPY BIRTHDAY letter candles or place three large 1-0-0 candles on the cake. Western tradition allows 100 small candles on the cake, but she probably can’t blow them all out and this will make her feel bad.

Step 6. Entertainment must be appropriate for older people. The children’s choir is one of the favourites. A violinist or pianist could provide background music in addition to a set programme.

Step 7. Consider hiring a photographer or videographer. All family members will appreciate copies of these keepsakes.

Step 8. Decorations make any place festive. Party Supplies: Banners, balloons, and yard signs can be purchased at your favorite party store or online.

Do not forget the flowers for the centerpieces and the corsage or boutonniere for the gentleman.

Step 9. Get dressed. Work with the birthday celebrant on the dress for the day. Make sure you have a current haircut or hairstyle. Fix ladies makeup and choose an attractive outfit. Purchase a tiara for the birthday girl. Party supply places have fun places with the number 100 prominently displayed. A fun hat for a birthday boy sets the party mood. They want to look and feel good for this special day.

Step 10. Gifts. Happy Birthday from the Today Show and Willard Scott can be obtained by sending a request with a photo to: Willard Scott Birthdays, TODAY show, NBC News, 4001 Nebraska Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016. NBC requests that this information be in their hands 6 weeks before the recipient’s birthday. They can’t mention everyone on the air, but it doesn’t hurt to submit a request.

Get a list of the Governor, US Senators and Representatives, and the Mayor of your city of birthday celebrants. Write to them with the data of the centenarians who are about to have a birthday and ask them to send them a congratulatory letter. Most politicians have staff that attend to these matters.

Contact the local newspaper and the church to which the birthday boy or girl belongs. They will print it in the newspaper or church bulletin. Be sure to say that the birthday will be celebrated with a small, private family gathering. This way, you won’t get killjoys.

A favorite gift is a digital photo frame with family photos. Gather all the photos, add music, and set it up as a continuous slideshow. It’s a wonderful way to remember centenarians of their extended family. If you have access to photos from your past, please include those as well.

Enjoy this very special party! You will make this person very happy on his birthday.

Mrs. Smith-Jones, daughter

After you’ve been with the same person for quite some time or are comfortably married, it’s very normal to feel like your spouse has changed a bit. This makes sense if you think about it. No one stays exactly the same throughout their lives. And many of us know our spouses when they were much younger than they are today. So they can seem full of life, rebellious or adventurous when we first meet them. But then, many years later, they may be settled and somewhat more conservative. This is the natural order of things and does not always cause problems.

But it can be problematic if the changes in your spouse particularly worry you or if they remind you of something (or someone) that causes a negative reaction.

You may hear someone say, “I grew up in the same neighborhood as my husband. I’ve known him for most of my life. When we were kids, we used to play together because our moms were really good friends. So, I went through a lot time in his childhood home and I know his parents very well. I have never liked his father. He is stern, old-fashioned, pompous and very critical. Just his tone of voice irritates me. I used to avoid my husband’s house at night because he knew that was when his father would come. And then the atmosphere in the house would change. The laughing would stop. And everyone would get so much more tense. One thing I always loved about my husband was that he looked so much alike. to his mother who is gentle and kind. His mom always laughed and loved to invite the neighborhood kids over.So I figured my husband was going to be a husband and father much like his own mother.I used to be that. When we were newlyweds and young parents, my husband was exactly l what i anticipated But, in the last five years or so, I’ve seen more and more of my husband’s father in him. Lately, he always acts like the world is out to get him or rip him off. He is impatient and critical. Worse yet, when I hear my husband’s voice, that screeching tone is the same as his father’s. He drives me crazy and it’s a big turn off. I know the great irony of this is that I am complaining about my husband’s critical personality while criticizing him. But I guess I’m very disappointed because I always really disliked his father. And now I feel like I have a father’s version of him living in my own house.”

What you are seeing is normal: There is an old saying that eventually we all become our parents. I don’t believe this. And I really hope it’s not true because I would never want to be like my mother. I love my mom, but her view of her life is very negative, and as a result, people often feel tense around her. Still, sometimes when my reserves are low, I hear something come out of my own mouth and it literally stops me because she sounds like my mother. I’m always disappointed in myself because for years I vowed never to be like my mother.

But when you think about it, how could I not, at least in some way, echo what I grew up hearing? My mother was my same-sex role model for almost 18 years. When you grow up seeing that person and experiencing how they live their lives and handle everyday problems, then at least a little will rub off on you, even if you reject much of their personality.

I suspect this is the case with your husband. This does not make him a bad person. It doesn’t mean that he identifies with his father and has a similar personality or even similar beliefs. In fact, he would doubt it since his previous personality reflected his mother’s.

But it’s all too easy to resort to negative patterns and examples in times of stress, even if that’s the last thing we want or intend to do. I would suspect that her husband’s father comes out on him when he’s anxious, scared, or angry. Her husband may have a stronger mental image of her father in stressful situations, as her mother was not often in stressful situations, she being the kinder and more optimistic of the two.

Understanding this is important because it helps you at least feel some empathy. And it can help you understand that your husband isn’t necessarily a bad person and suddenly doesn’t necessarily have the personality of his father. He hasn’t become his father. He’s just seen this behavior for much of his formative years, so he can’t help it from coming up sometimes.

Think for just a second if you have ever sounded like your own mother. I think we all have it, even if we don’t realize it. I’m not saying this to suggest that it’s okay for her husband to act like her father. I’m just saying it’s natural and very common.

Ending this in a positive way: But the real problem is how to stop it, or at least tone it down a bit so it doesn’t continue to erode your marriage. The first part of my suggestion would be to not sound judgmental when you bring this up. The last thing you want to do is get mad and say something like, “Do you hear yourself? You sound exactly like your dad. And he drives me crazy. You know I hate your dad.” My husband does something in this situation that is quite effective and does not deteriorate our relationship. He brings this to my attention in the form of a joke. My mother is a worrier who always sees everything as a borderline disaster. In some situations, I can be like that. When this comes up and he’s driving my husband crazy, he addresses me using my mother’s name. He will say: “yes (my mother’s name), everything is horrible.”

That’s her way of telling me I’m sounding like my mom. But she says it jokingly. I understand the message. But neither of us is angry. She can try a similar approach and insert her husband’s father’s name when she behaves like him. So if her husband was impatient and her father’s name was Bob, she would say, “Wait Bob, it’s not as bad as that.”

Is there something else?: Finally, if this doesn’t help and you don’t feel relieved when you use humor, ask yourself if this is really the core of the problem. Maybe the voice is just a trigger indicating anger towards her husband for something else. But you can’t fix it until you address what it really is.

While not as elegant as satin or silk sheets, jersey sheets are incredibly comfortable and wonderful to sleep on. Not only are they comfortable, but they also keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. In fact, they are so versatile that you may never want to use another type of fabric for your sheets again.

These sheets come in a wide variety of colors. Children’s sheets are also often printed with a cartoon or movie character. You can buy Star Wars jersey sheets or SpongeBob sheets for a child’s bed. You can also find children’s sheets with letters, numbers, animals and other patterns. Jersey sheets for adult-sized beds are usually a solid color, but chances are there’s a sheet set to suit your bedroom scheme. For those who like organic products, there are even organic sheets available. These sheets are chemical free and can be found online and at local retail stores.

Jersey sheets are sold as a set or as individual pieces, either fitted or flat. Prices are based on the size of the sheet, with larger sheets being more expensive than those made for a double bed. The brand will also affect the price, as well as whether they are plain or patterned. Jersey is generally much cheaper than buying Egyptian cotton, silk, or sateen sheets.

One of the biggest advantages of these sheets is that they require very little maintenance. They can be washed in warm or cold water and will only slightly wrinkle. The only downside is that they will bleed quite a bit, so you’ll want to wash the darker colors separately from the lights.

Jersey sheets will match any décor and can add a touch of unmatched comfort. In fact, they’re so comfortable you won’t want to get out of bed. These sheets are not only comfortable but also very affordable and will fit any budget. They also come in a wide range of colors, styles, and sizes to fit from a baby to an adult. Just give these sheets a try and you may never want to change.

A scene you could see in any American home today.

Wife: Billy needs another pair of sneakers. The ones I bought him last month are already worn out.

Husband: How much is that going to cost us?

Wife: You can probably find cheap ones on sale for $25.00.

Husband: Hell, can’t you do better than that? I have to take my car to the workshop this week.

Wife: That’s the best I can do. He needs shoes. Buying cheap shoes doesn’t fix anything anyway, they’ll wear out quickly and we’ll have to buy more in a month or so.

Husband: How much do good shoes cost, shoes that will last?

Wife: $100-$125, easy.

Husband: HOLY $%^&!!! That’s crazy!

Wife: You have to give me some money today anyway, the baby is out of diapers and formula.

Husband: What, you think I’m an ATM? I already have two jobs! Because you’re not here

buying things on sale at the supermarket instead of name brands all the time.

Wife: I hate those cheap brands, they are horrible. Name brands are better. Cheap brands are useless and you end up spending more money on things that wear out quickly or don’t work, like shoes.

Husband: Then you will have to do better to reduce household expenses, I can’t afford more than I am. I don’t have it. We don’t have to eat steak twice a week, you know?

Wife: Why do I always have to find ways to stretch the dollar? You always blame me. Why don’t you get a better paying job? I’m tired of living like this.

Husband: I’m doing the best I can. The gas continues to rise. Taxes, tolls and everything else keep increasing. We have to do something or we will be on the street. Don’t use the air conditioning all day for example, you are increasing the bill.

Wife: It’s too hot for the baby. He cries a lot when he is uncomfortable and extreme temperatures are dangerous for him.

Husband: I guess you’re right, but I don’t know what else to do. There isn’t enough money anymore. Does something have to give somewhere?

Who in this economy isn’t tired of being broke? This scene is too common. How many families are struggling just to make ends meet and losing all their savings in the process. That’s not even the worst. Unemployment is at 8%, foreclosures are at an all-time high, and while the government may say inflation is only 2%, it sure seems a lot higher when you’re at the gas pump or buying a bar. of bread. How many people do you know who don’t have a job or are struggling to find it? How many foreclosures do you see driving down the street?

Let’s face it, the economy has been in trouble since the housing bubble burst in 2008, but in reality, the US economy has been in trouble for quite some time. The American dream has become the daily nightmare of too many people. In this article, part 1 of a 2 part series, we will examine the reasons why the US dollar, and most other world currencies, appear to be shrinking. Instead of seeing and hearing fortune stories these days, look around you and all you see and hear are fortune stories. Statements like the following are very common:

“If only I had a few more dollars left over after paying the bills.”

“I can’t seem to get the dollar to stretch enough to make ends meet.”

“The dollar doesn’t seem to go as far as it used to.”

Unfortunately, this is all too true. How did we get this way? What happened to the great American industrial economy that used to lead the world in production, which has now led the world into a seemingly endless recession? Did we get lazy? Are we becoming obsolete in a global economy?

Not quite.

Maybe it’s not us, the American people, who are broke. Perhaps it is the almighty US dollar that is broken, destroyed by an ongoing fiscal policy that has robbed the present to pay past debts over many decades at the expense of the future, and that future has caught up with us.

The American economy was originally based on the exchange of hard commodities for goods and services. Furs, cattle, vegetables, and dairy products were exchanged for weapons and tools. Hard commodities like gold and silver, as has been the case around the world over the centuries, were exchanged as currency for the services and goods of doctors. In the case of the United States, specifically thanks to the gold boom in California in the 1840s and 1850s, gold became the main commercial asset used by citizens and the public. The gold standard became the norm. Gold in the United States was money. Banks exchanged IOUs for gold, allowing people to safely park their gold at banks. The value of one dollar of gold (one ounce) was equal to a $1 promissory note. Bank customers could earn interest by depositing their gold in the banks and could redeem these notes for their gold at any time. This exchange was the basis for the cash we use today. The promissory note, or “cash,” was a contract, a bond that entitled the holder to redeem the merchandise from him at any time.

America hummed for many years, growing steadily at a healthy rate. The trade was good. The production was fantastic. But then this fragmented nation, made up of independent states united as one union, came to a crossroads. The federal government wanted, or felt it needed, more power to unionize the states so that everyone in the country would keep the same rights and laws. Slavery became an issue between the North and the South. States’ rights became the mandate in the South and federal power the will in the North, causing great friction in Congress and at home. This dispute grew until the Civil War finally began in 1861. In Part 2 of this 2-part series, we’ll examine how Lincoln and the Civil War started the economy on its downward spiral, and how many administrations since then have furthered that spiral. .

Recently on her show, Oprah Winfrey talked to Dr. Oz about high-fiber foods for healthy eating and natural weight loss. One of the most fascinating elements of the show featured the doctor describing an experiment in which a group of people ate 11 pounds of raw fruits and vegetables for 12 days. The results surprised everyone, as cholesterol levels dropped by 25%, blood pressure dropped by 10%, and each participant lost about 10 pounds.

Dr. Oz, as seen on Oprah, said that the positive effects of consuming enough high-fiber foods will occur “almost immediately.” Fiber helps move substances through your digestive system very quickly. He added: “Bile, when absorbed through the intestine, is converted to cholesterol. So when you get a lot of fiber in your diet, you absorb the bile and your cholesterol automatically goes down. It also cuts out sugar, which helps diabetics. And it’s a great tool if you want to lose weight because it makes you feel full.” Therefore, plenty of fiber in your diet makes natural weight loss easier to achieve.

I have known the power of a high fiber diet ever since I lost thirty pounds in one month by eating more fruits and vegetables. The good thing is that it is now even easier to manage my weight with the help of specially formulated healthy drinks that I have discovered are made with all-natural ingredients like real cocoa and strawberries. These tasty shakes take about thirty seconds to prepare. They provide soluble fiber to eliminate fat and toxins at a healthy rate. Another benefit is more energy and better digestion than ever before.

What are some good high-fiber foods to lose weight naturally?

1. apples

Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious Pink Lady, Granny Smith and McIntosh apples each provide 5 grams of fiber.

2. Beans

Black beans provide up to 7 g of fiber per 1/4 cup of dry beans. 1/4 cup of Pinto Beans provides 12 g of fiber per serving and Chickpeas are best with 9 g of fiber per 1/4 cup serving. What a great tool beans are for healthy weight loss and weight management.

3. Whole grains

A bowl of shredded wheat, multigrain toast, or a bran muffin are healthy high-fiber food choices. Each can give you 3-5g of fiber or more and are easy to make.

4. Natural drinks rich in fiber

Get 5g of fiber in a creamy, cold and delicious chocolate or strawberry shake. This is a healthy fast food that is easy to prepare and consumes soluble fiber.

5. High Fiber Foods in Meal Replacement Bars

An energy bar should provide you with at least 4 g of fiber in one serving. If not, then it’s not worth the calories. There are many options available in that category.

You can eat 11 pounds of fruits and vegetables every day like the people in the experiment as seen on Oprah, or you can try adding some concentrated natural formulas to your diet for a more convenient way to reap the benefits of fiber. Search the internet for natural, high-fiber foods and you’ll find it’s easier than ever to get the nutrition you need to lose weight naturally.

A birthday party is fun. But it can be an overwhelming experience for a shy child, especially if he or she is the guest of honor. Here are ten tips to make the celebration easy, comfortable, and wonderful for your child.

1. Involve him in all aspects of the party planning. When the birthday boy or girl helps plan all the details of the celebration, they feel in control. He will feel comfortable in this situation, because he helped create it.

2. Have the party at home. No matter how tempting an outdoor setting may be, a shy child will feel more secure at home. He will be confident in the comfort of familiar surroundings and will not feel out of place. And, if at any point he feels too anxious, he can withdraw to a safe place for a minute, until he regains his composure.

3. Keep the guest list small. Even fully mature adults can sometimes be intimidated by large crowds. A house full of active and noisy children can make a quiet child anxious. Keep the group to a manageable size.

4. Invite the right kids. This is not the time to include newcomers, hoping to widen your circle of friends. Stick with those who are already in your comfort zone, like best friends, siblings, cousins, and kids you play with in the neighborhood. You will feel comfortable with that group and it will give you more confidence.

5. Limit the length of the party. In this case, less is more. Plan plenty of time for games, cakes, and fun. But don’t overdo it. If the festivities go on too long and the activities run out, the guests will be restless. They will still want to be entertained and your child may not know how to handle them.

6. Include the correct games. Look for non-competitive activities that everyone can do. Have the children work on a craft that relates to the theme of the party. Choose gentle games that don’t require a lot of skill and reward each participant with a prize. A scavenger hunt can be a good idea, if you assign each of the children a different color and allow them to search for their own color-coded reward.

7. Make a plan to blow out the candles. Some shy children feel extremely self-conscious when everyone is looking at them and singing happy birthday. They may panic when they are expected to blow out those candles. If your child feels this way, try to be more discreet. You could push the cake table against the wall, place your child in front of the cake, with the rest of the guests behind him when they sing. Another solution is to have everyone sing very fast. Provide a large candle made in the shape of the number of the year you are celebrating. It is easier to blow out a single figure-of-seven candle than seven individual candles.

8. Wait until after the party to open presents. If you open your gifts during the celebration, you will be the center of attention. Your guests will be watching to see what you get and their reaction. This can be overwhelming for a shy child. Put this off until later, when the guests have gone home and he is relaxed. Then you can unwrap the packages. Don’t forget to take a photo of him playing, wearing, or using the gift to include in the thank you card.

9. Have a helper. Of course, making a birthday party run smoothly is a lot of work. But you don’t want to be so busy and worried that you lose sight of how your shy child is doing. If you have someone there to lend a hand, it will be easier to pay attention to how you are dealing with things. Then, if you notice signs that he’s feeling stressed, you can divert his attention by asking him to do a simple task. He’ll think you just needed him to get that bottle of soda out of the fridge and he won’t realize you distracted him so he’ll calm down.

10. Don’t worry. There is nothing wrong with being shy. Most children outgrow it as their confidence grows. We all have our moments when we feel self-conscious in social situations. Just do your best to make him comfortable, so he can relax and have a good time.

It’s so easy to plan a big birthday party for your shy child. Just follow these steps to reduce potential stress triggers, and watch yourself have a happy celebration.

Genius children have been known throughout the centuries and studied by many eminent people. Unfortunately, there appears to be little agreement on either side as to whether the child has inherited the brain capacity from her or perhaps acquired it through a chance developmental factor at birth.

One American response was to use child prodigies in an experiment using the Nobel Sperm Bank in Escondido, California, which was founded by an eccentric elderly millionaire, Robert Graham. The only goal was to provide intelligent women, who wanted to be mothers of superior babies, with the sperm of Nobel Prize winners. The experiment was intended to dramatically increase the number of gifted children for future generations.

Afton’s baby Blake became the first deliberately conceived genius and was born in 1982. Afton was a single psychologist and chose the father of her baby from a folder, which listed the donor as having good physical appearance and a high level of intelligence. The anonymous donor, identified only by a number, was also a donor.

computer scientist and an accomplished musician. Her mother named the baby ‘Doron’, an anagram for ‘donor’. Psychologists tested the baby at 4 months and stated that he had an IQ of 200. At 2 years old, Doron was developing faster than his peers.

Does this mean something?

Well, maybe not when you consider the number of genius children born to parents of normal or below normal intelligence. A good example is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born in 1756. Although his father was a moderately good violinist, young Wolfgang outshone him almost as soon as he could walk. By age 6 he had mastered musical notation and a year later he performed before the Emperor of Austria in Vienna.

The boy genius, Andragone de Mello was born in 1977. He became the youngest person to graduate from an American university, when at the age of 11 he received a degree in mathematics from the University of California. The boy amazed his parents by saying ‘hello’, when he was just 7 weeks old. At two and a half years old he was playing chess and solving geometry problems. At the age of 4 he was studying Greek, physics and philosophy. When he was 8 years old, he could write complex computer programs. His father was a flamenco guitarist.

George Bernard Shaw had no doubts about the futility of genetic selection. The gray-bearded playwright was approached by a gorgeous young actress who suggested that with his brains and her beauty, she could produce a ‘wunderkind’ to wow the world. He wrote to her, saying politely: ‘But, alas, madam, what if the child inherits my looks and brains from her!’
